K750i & GPS Software Working

Finally I found a good Java based GPS program that works really well on my phone.

Its named MobiTrackPRO and can be found here:
http://www.unteh.com/products/mobitrack/index.html

Its an older version there called MobiTrack but MobiTrackPRO is for K600, K750, W800 so its MobiTrackPRO I am talking about here.

I bought the program and have given it a testrun on my K750i and my girlfriends Nokia 6230i, works great with both.
I use a Holux GR-230 BT GPS receiver and that connects fine.
The program has lots of features like showing all GPS-Info, tracking, odometer, speed, trip and so on..

You can also load a map from your memory-card (need to be calibrated) and it will show you where you are on that map. We walk alot of trips in forest and I made a map for that area and it shows us where we are at all times. Really neat.

There is a free demo at their site there too.

Took some pics from my phone showing some of the screens:

Cool. It sounds like a great Application. Thanks.

wow that looks great...id love GPS on a phone!

Can you write up something a little more detailed about working with GPS on an SE?

How do you load the maps to memcard...specifically, where do you get the maps from? Does it take imports from Microsoft Trips & Streets or something?

How detailed can your maps get?
Can you do directions on it?

Posted by pappfer
Yep, i've heared it before. You can use it with a program called Wayfinder, too. ;-)

@matthewf01
The program has a load function that gives you access to the rest of the phone. c:/ is phone and e:/ is memory card, from there you can load a map. You can use any map.. ie. if u have a paper map you can scan it as an image ie. *.jpg and use it on the phone. The easiest is to use OziExplorer:

http://www.oziexplorer.com/

It supports map's from that program directly and with OziExplorer you can import just about anything. It also supports waypoints and tracks in the same format that MobiTrackPRO can both import and export.

If you open a map over the area you want in Microsoft Trips & Streets you can copy and past it in a picture editing program and save it as a *.jpg file. Then you import it into OziExplorer and calibrate it and you get a *.map file. Then you transfer the picture and the map file to the phone and its ready for use.

But thank you for the info. Do you know if such systems as Route66 will work?

Posted by Klorin
No, systems like Route 66 and TomTom will not work. I am not sure if its possible to write apps. that advanced in java and still runs fast enough for it. But I am sure we will see some solution for that soon.

Posted by jcwhite_uk
It doesnt work with my V800i.

Posted by ares
v800 doesnīt have the required java API for using bluetooth...sames goes with z800, z1010, s700, k700, etc

only works on k750, w800, k600

Hello. I tried to purchase the MobiTrack at HandandGo, but they wanted to send it to my mobile. That means I have to purchace it every time I buy a new mobile. In this matter I was not able to send it to +47 (My provider) and it all wnt wrong. I did not get the program!! But they charge my VISA. DAMN!!So how did you purchase it Klorin?
It should be delivered as a program file, and not the same way they send you a ringtone. Or.....!?!?

@geir-ove
Check your PM.

Posted by geir-ove
@Klorin..... Check my PM?? In english please.....

@gr3gg0
I bought it here:

http://www.handango.com/Platf[....]iteId=1&txtSearch=MobiTrackPRO

I just explained to geir-ove in a PM how I contacted their support since I had the same problem he did.

You are supposted to download the program directly to your phone and that doesnt seem to work with all countries.

You cant compare this with TomTom, TomTom is for road navigation and is much more advanced then you can get on a java-based cell-phone today(that doesnt run Symbian).
This is a GPS utility with a handful of very useful functions and I would say a break-though when it comes to navigation with a simple cell-phone.

Do you get like an drawed line on the map where you have been in the session?
Hope you understand what I mean!

Posted by Klorin
@The_Morgue
Yes, I understand what you mean.
No, it uses two screens.. one where you see the map and there is a cross showing where you are. The map is shown in 1:1 and scroll around as you move.
The other screen shows your track (draws a line as you move). You can save that track and transfer it to your computer when you get home and load it into OziExplorer and there the track will show up on the map.

I would guess they will change this in later releases so the track is drawn on the map. But its not a big deal to me.

Here in Germany you can buy a Nokia 6670 mit Route 66. What functionality does the 6670 have which enables it to use Route 66. Surely this is just software based? And would Sony not be about to update the K750i to enable it to have this very useful GPS Nav functionality?

When is the best time to place a posting to get a reply? There seems to be very little intrest in this topic, but I think its a great addition for a mobile?

Posted by numb
Nokia 6670 is a symbian series 60 based smartphone
K750 is not.

Posted by stevevalo
Is symbian software based, would it be possible to up grade the K750i to run symbian software?

No, but the P series run Symbian.

Posted by stevevalo
I know the P series is capable, I had a P900 but did not like it as a phone. I just think it would be a good addition for the K750. Especially here in Germany were every man and his dog as GPS Navigation!!

Posted by Klorin
Well, I assume Symbian needs more power to run well.. guess thats why Symbian based phones generally bigger too.
Besides.. this is very off topic, both Route66 and TomTom are road-navigation.. this is more a GPS tool with some extra features. Take it for what it is and try to get as much as possible out of it.

I find it very useful.

5th july emappz will have a beta java navigator for K750i (and other phones and brands) out for testing.
Unfortinately it's only in swedish.
http://www.emappz.com/faq.asp
The app. is supposed to be free financed by comercials.

But if they can get it to work, then I think other apps. woun't be far away, like TomTom etc.

is there a release of tomtom for java ???

Yes they do have java navagation software, but who wants to pay monthly. Surely you buy the route software and thats it! if you want to update you pay for that aswell later, but I don't want to pay monthly for GPS navigation!!

I tried MobiTrack 1.18 DEMO with K750i and Falcom Navi-B GPS reciever with no success.
I am not sure to buy the 1.23pro, because maybe it will not work also.

Is the K750 supported by 1.18 or only by 1.23 pro?

Posted by stevevalo
Just been on a german web site

http://navigation.falk.de/navigation/de/109.htm

They show full working mobile GPS Nav on the K750i

How good is your german!

Just reading this thread, got my interest.
I'm assuming you are pairing the phone with a BT GPS receiver. Anyone got any advice on which is a good GPS receiver to work with the K750i.

What's the drain on Battery like too?

Posted by last_raven
MobiTrackPro 1.23 works great on K750i with Redknows bluetooth GPS, tried demo version 1.18 first and that one also worked fine

Posted by djole89
If you already have a GPS reciever, I dont see a point to have a GPS app on your phone.

Posted by gr3gg0
dont need gps...get maps instead:)

Not all GPS recievers have a display...

Posted by bogdan_wrc
does it work on s700?

Posted by jattinder
is that if we want to use the map apps we will need a some extra hardwares or what? can't we just use the phone ? thanks a lot nice thread !

Once the bluetooth gps is on, when you take new photos with the k750, do the new photos contain GPS data in the EXIF part ?

No!, thats not possible. At least not with K750i.

Hi, hopefully some of you guys can give me some help.

I bought mobitrack and installed it on my k750i ok but I am unable to import maps from the external memory stick.

I created a map file using oziexplorer and sent that and the jpg file to the root directopry of the memory card.

When I try to load the file I have to "OK" the file permissions to read from the card a few times and then the screen goes white and does nothing else. When I recover the session the new map does not appear in the map list.

I've also tried a few gmi+image files from the example map share website but these do not load either.

Any clues ? Do the map files need to go in a specific directory ?

MAybe the phone needs a firmware update ?
Thanks,
Richie

@the portal

Took me a while to sort this as well but I found that the image file had to be of .png type. You can convert your original .jpg file to .png then import it into OziExplorer and recalibrate it. Worked for me!

My problem is that I cannot work out how MobiTrack copes with large map sizes. Is there an optimal size? The map I've imported seems to scroll sideways (i.e. East to West) but not up and down!!

Got to say this is a great app. Well worth the Euros. Also I bought it on the Mobile2Day site. The site is all German(!) and you need to register to buy but it allows you to download the .jar and .jad files! No need for them to send them via your service provider.
