@manish win xp multimedia centre has arrived

Posted by Evil Eye
Hows it? I m really excited.

Posted by knight4led
there is also the 64-bit edition optimized for the new set of 64-bit processors and applications. Media Center is alright, but not that impressive to me.

Are you buying new pc are just installing a new xp?

Posted by Evil Eye
@nitesh just installing new xp.

Then Go for XP home edition, it good for surfing, playing games, etc.

If all you care about is the internet and built-in games you are gonna see very little difference between Pro and Home. If you know what you are doing and know how to use the group policy manager, and other expanded features of Pro, then its worth it. Otherwise stick with Home.

@nitesh r u sure? Wud it have any probs while surfing the net? Thanx.

xp home is made for surfing, games, video, music.etc.. And it has no prob while surfing. I do recom you to use mozorila firefor browser for secure and safe surfing. :-). Cheers.

Linux! Linux

LINUX doesnt supports many games windows XP home is better 4 that

Erm.. bollocks to home being better for gaming.

If you're networking with other pc's as well, get pro.

I've run pro pretty much since release and have yet to encounter a single modern game apart from Warcraft II that had issues (and getting a copy of battlenet edition solved that)

Older stuff is an issue on any version of Xp so don't expect to be playing wing commander 3 anytime soon on either.

Oldest game i've run trouble free so far but that did need to have the compatbility mode set was Dungeon Keeper.

Pro.. Sp1. Its all good
(And yes its just as dumb as home with wizards everywhere if you choose )

Well, I think that the recent thread on Esato about 'How to change XP home to XP pro with a bit of hacking' says it all really

In terms of basic functionality (i.e. running apps) they're pretty much identical. Pro has a few extra features that your unlikely to use outside of a corporate enviroment, but the core of the OS is more or less the same.

Some people say that pro is a bit more stable than home, I couldn't really comment on this since I've only ever run pro on my machines but technically speaking, it shouldn't be the case.

there are only a few major differences between the two. Those being the Admnistrative Tools, the Group Policy Manager, a few options on basic config screens (but both have the ability to change said config settings through wizards) and a few other tiny things. There should be no stability differences between the two unless you go tinkering about in Pro. The default settings in Pro are identical to those in Home.

So the end conclusion is that Pro is more configurable if you really want to get in there and get your hands dirty. But most users just get Pro and don't ever touch the extra settings.

@knight Like me using pro. ;-).

I have Home and Pro. Home is more for a familly pc and Pro is more for people that are into computers and whant more of the system.

Nope, but it can be run of a 128MB memory stick with full web browsing capabilities, hardware detection and a fully working office suite. And 70MB left over for files. Lets see XP do that!

I installed xp pro and ME...
Both working fine.....
