Mobile phones can do more and more things that other handheld devices used to do. I made up a list of all the things I've heard of a mobile phone doing other than make calls:
mp3 player, portable file transfer, voice recorder, video player/recorder, camera, game console, pda/palmtop computer, diary, calculator, alarm clock, watch, torch, pedometer, bicycle tripmeter (siemens), compass (nokia), stopwatch, colour sensor (for colourblind), newsreader/internet browser/email, bookreader, gps handset, RC car remote (SE Car-100!), notepad and pen, compact mirror (nokia of course), passport sized photo holder (again, nokia)
Please add anything you've heard of. I'm sure i've missed thousands of things.

Actually some of those I've heard of:
Holographic displays on prototype pen phones. Hard Drive (5GB I think). Guitar tuner (but not guitar unless you count a melody composer). Laser pointer. "enough RAM to run a marathon", is 2GB enough to run a marathon?

I play games on my qtek 2020, games we used to have consoles for. I can play: gameboy/colour/gba, nes/snes, C64, Amiga, Lucas games (Secret of the Monkey Island/Day of the Tentacle)
Age of Empires, Worms Worldparty.
I watch Matrix, LOTR, Star Wars. MP3 for music, navigate with GPS (tomtom andgps receiver)
Make and edit my word/excel files, watch powerpoint scripts and use it as agenda. Go on internet/msn. So this pda replaces many things.
pc (kinda)
game consoles/handheld game consoles
video/dvdplayer
cd/mp3 player
photo album
camera/video camera (but does not do a good job)
paper agenda
phone (the one attached to a cable at home)
memo recorder
calender
etc, etc... (can't think of more)

yes! I forgot TV (although here in australia we don't have any carrier providing tv). I also use mine as a paper weight for the newspaper in outdoor cafe's on windy days!
I saw this on halfbakery.com:
"you can buy modified covers for many nokia phones. they sell some pretty special ones in a grungy indoor market near me. some have little torches shining out the top, and i saw a scary one that has a retractable stanley knife blade that retracts into the gap between the cover and the battery. who buys these things?

Hey that reminds me...about two years ago I saw pictures of a .22 calibre working phone that disassembled and reasssembled into a pistol!
No kidding...it was illegal in many countries tho'. It could pass through a metal detector and not flag a problem. (gave off a signal like a normal phone).
Another use for a mobile phone - bomb detontator (just don't use a nokia):
