Don't Drain The Battery
--------------------------------------------------
With Lithium batteries there is no advantage to draining the battery. The battery will infact last longer with partial rather than full discharges. There is no battery memory effect with a lithium battery - you can charge the battery whenever you like without fear of reducing its charge capacity, and you do not need to drain a lithium battery completely before recharging it.

Find out more about Lithium batteries here: http://www.batteryuniversity.com/

In response to lots of questions about the battery, I've explained things in greater detail on page 4 of this thread.

--------------------------------------------------
Remote Control
--------------------------------------------------
I only just discovered what the remote control application is capable of, so I think this is worth a mention for those of you that might have thought nothing of it... I've used the SE developer tools to customize a remote for winamp, easier to use than windows notepad! I've also made a shortcut pointing to C:/WINDOWS/system32/shutdown.exe -s -t 5 -c "K750i Bluetooth remote command" which is a network command to shut down the computer after 5 seconds. If you put the shortcut in the start menu somewhere, you can assign a shortcut key to execute it e.g. CTRL+ALT+0. Which in turn you can program your remote to use on one of it's buttons.

--------------------------------------------------

I'll update this heading post with more power user features as I discover them or as you guys post them below. Thanks.

You can change track in the mediplayer when you are in the minimized (and locked) mode.
Just keep the volume button pressed either down or up for a second and it will change track instead of volume.
If you press a short press first it will not allow you to change track for a couple of seconds and just change volume...

Amazing telephone! Love it!

View contacts on sim card = 9 then #

It's actually any number + #. If you press 5 and then # it'll take you to the 5th number on SIM card. If you press 0 and # it ought to take you to the phone's contact list.

Posted by flexnez
Nice!

Posted by Gobo
So for silent camera mode you first hold # to get the phone to go silent and then open the camera?
That doesn't seem to work for me.

Posted by rajasekharan_v
it works for me......press and hold the # key till you get the silent mode...then use the camera to shoot with out the sound

Just a suggestion, since FMA doesn't quite work with the k750 yet, I'd remove it from the list, just so it doesn't frustrate people when they try and get it working. Just my 2 cents. Outside of that, great compilation of tips and tricks!

Posted by Andaho
I haven't even tried FMA as I didn't think I'd use any of it's features, thanks for pointing it out... it has been removed

Posted by xerx

great job!

Posted by rambalu80
FMA works perfectly fine with my K750i, however, I cant get to turn off the sound for the camera even if I set the phone to silent.

Posted by bobstarsg
uh !? @ xerx really great !.....

@ rambalu80 certain countries have privacy legislations prohibiting the use of the muted camera. Thus the camera sound is always on. It's embedded in the firmware.

For an addition to the three earlier, I found a hidden 'kiss' smiley

: then - then x but when i type it here i get

FMA? I used it to zap all my contacts back in when the new phone came... so that much works. Not tried anything else.

Posted by Dragonfly_TP
one note: never drain a litium-ion battery!!! This will damage the litium-ion crystals (operating voltage is 2.4 to 3.8 volts, below 2.4 damages the battery!)

Posted by Andaho
Almost all Li-ion batteries have a built in circuit to not allow them to drop below that voltage. But you are correct in saying you don't need to drain them... I wasn't aware of this until reading your post and doing a little research... The general answers when you search google about drainnig a li-ion battery is this: "There is no battery memory effect with a lithium ion battery — you can charge the battery whenever you like without fear of reducing its charge capacity, and you do not need to drain a lithium ion battery completely before recharging it." Also: "After 1000 charges a lithium-ion battery will still have around 80% of it's original capacity."

I'll remove my heading on draining the battery

Posted by paul555
FMA works fine for me with the D750i. I have transferred contacts from my T630 and successfully downloaded and uploaded videos, games, pictures and ringtones.

So know problems there. Just make sure you have the latest version - 2.0.0.23 Stable

Posted by riffola
How do I minimize the file transfer dialog? I read somewhere here that you can do that and it shows a small slider above the soft keys so you can continue to use the phone.

Turns out you can only minimize the dialog when you are downloading a file via WAP using the built in browser.

I have Windows XP Pro SP2 and the shortcut I use is as follows:

C:/WINDOWS/system32/shutdown.exe -s -t 5 -c "K750i Bluetooth remote command"

Run shutdown.exe in command prompt to see more options.

It might be a hidden or system file so you might not be able to see it depending on your folder viewing options.

If you don't have it on your system, there are small simple free programs to shutdown your system available at http://www.download.com just search for shutdown.

To add a shortcut key to it in windows it must first be placed somewhere in the start menu. Then right click on it > properties, and you will see "shortcut". Select the box saying "none" and press any key... it will automatically add CTRL + ALT. Use that shortcut key when customizing your own remote using the SE developer tool: http://developer.sonyericsson.com/getDocument.do?docId=71477

If you need anymore help I'm happy to and available on ICQ: 280844 or MSN: andaho@msn.com

hi anando,

i just got a se D750i i am completely happy with it, except for one problem. i dont know if its me or whether the fone is made like this. the earphone is exceptionally low, u cannot hear people when talking especially if out in a crowd. is there any reason as to y? or can anything be done? do u notice this too? i have taken it back and exchanged it but it seems the fone is like this.

regards

nix

It seems to be that way with most new phones... before I bought the k750 I was also looking at the nokia 6680 smartphone. Reading reviews of both phones, they both have a lower than you'd expect volume.

It is annoying, but something you have to get used to I guess.

Speaking of super real tennis, i think it's a little bit hard!
Does the game have special moves? cuz my player sometimes lobs the ball even though im just pressing the stick with out any directions, sometimes even directions doesnt work?

Posted by Grimslade
There's at least one good thread on playing SRT. You're more likely to hit it flat if you don't hit it when it's too high or too low.

Posted by mnu
is there anyway that you can put a pin/password on sound/video/picture folders? like u can with d500 and nokias.

Posted by CyberVisitor
This is probably not K750 specific, and it could even have been mentioned elsewhere, but it's worth repeating for those who don't know...

my k750 can not browse other phone with bluetooth?

Posted by Prayer
Hi, I was wondering how this Bluetooth remote control works.

It only seems to create ".hid" files and the thing is I dont know where to put them. And when I select the ".hid" file on the phone I just get to choose if I want to send the ".hid" file to the computer.

And there is one other thing that is bothering me, It is like the software is only for; K700, z800 and s700. But not for the K750i phone, I need some help with this to make it work, I really want to customize my own commands for the bluetooth remote control.

Thanks Andaho

I ran into this problem at first also... Way I first got around it was to send the file to my old phone, and then send it back, and when you receive it, you get an option to install it... the way I do it now tho, is to send it by bluetooth from my PC, and that way you also get the option to install it... also the design for the k700 remote is exactly the same as the k750.

what will work, even with a 'regulated' phone, is to first make a call, say... to an information line, then, while still connected, open the lens cover... you can photograph while connected, but the phone connection mutes the shutter sound.

Curious about this... are there numbers that iwll keep you connected forever as long as you have a signal? interesting idea if there are some numbers that will keep you on as long as you want.

If you guys are this much of a secret spy, I think you should buy one of those pen/cameras

but pen cams dont have that beautiful 2mp cam

Does anyone know how to increase the backlight time on the K750i? The 20 seconds it spends being lit before automatically turning off just ain't enough for me...

Posted by FordTaunus
@tzakiel:

Why not change the country settings with daVinci? afaik the Euro5 will let you make the silent photos.

Ford

Because you have english menu's, and no T9 for you prefered language

Um no I have EU_2 now and I can change both phone language & writing language, and menus and T9 both use that language. I just tried switching from English to French (since I figured it was the only one I knew enough to not get lost when I need to switch back to English) and both menus & T9 (you have to set French in both) work in French.

I would have thought 20 seconds is plenty time to take a photo, if you want to use the light as a torch, you can turn it on permanently in the organiser menu.

dosen't k750 use lithium polymer battery? or both are same?

Posted by kidscruff
Pressing 0 in camera (video) mode selects long or short clips.

When viewing pictures in "horizontal" mode, 1 zooms in, 3 zooms out. I think the volume keys also zoom.

Hey, you're right, I never even noticed lol. But after reading on the battery university site;

Li-polymer Is technically lithium-ion-polymer, a small variation of the li-ion battery. It's a different cell formation containing polymer to allow for slim batteries. But it still has all the same characteristics and performance of the classic lithium-ion battery.

Yo, Andaho, I meant backlight. Not flash.

When a key is pressed on the phone, the phone lights up. It's the duration of THAT light I am interested in extending. Anyway, is it possible?

Ahh sorry, I read it wrong. I've also noticed it being a little annoying while playing strategy games such as Ancient Empires where you watch the CPU player take his turn; the backlight turns off and you have to keep pressing a button all the time.

It appears there is no solution to the problem... maybe in the first firmware update they'll add an option.

@mahdogzbite

With the R1J002 firmware the profile "In car" will leave your backlight on all time or until you manually lock your keypad. If you have on automatic lock, the backlight will go of when the keypad is locked.

I'm not sure if this is still the case for R1L002. I'm not sure if it was in the R1A002 firmware.

this maybe because the prorammers thought you might want to waste your battery as much as you can

Posted by hellsat
I use the profile "In car" guess where? In the car
Guess what, I have a car charger in there

Having the backlight on in the car where power is no problem is in fact very comfortable. I can see the clock on the phone whitout having to touch the phone to light it up.
I don't wear a clock since I use the phones clock. I do have a clock in the car, but it's integrated with the car RDS radio, so I have to choose between RDS info or clock info.

So thanks to the programmers that actually do make helpfull feature

i've heard that recharge cycles of li-po batt. are low compared to li-on. after 300-400 charge cycles, they tend to lose their optimium power. is it true?

They have several paragraphs on the li-poly battery towards the bottom of this page http://www.batteryuniversity.com/partone-5.htm

They mention a limitation of li-poly is "Lower energy density and decreased cycle count compared to lithium-ion."

They also say "what then is the difference between classic lithium-ion and lithium-ion-polymer? Although the characteristics and performance of the two systems are similar, the lithium-ion-polymer is unique in that solid electrolyte replaces the porous separator. The gelled electrolyte is simply added to enhance ion conductivity."

Everything in my "don't drain the battery" heading is correct to li-poly batteries, although you are correct, li-poly batteries have a "decreased cycle count compared to lithium-ion".

Before you ask me; I can't find the answer to - if a partial top-up charge would count as a cycle? If I was to guess, I'd assume not.

The bottom line with recent li-poly batteries in mobile phones is to not treat them as nickel batteries, e.g. don't deliberatley drain them before charging (apart from once every few months to keep the battery power meter accurate).

@andaho

Thanks for the great info.

i personally think a partial charge would not be considered as a cycle or 2-3 partial charges may be considered as a cycle. as lithium batteries don't have this memory effect, a full charge can only be considered as a comlete charging cycle.

anyways, the lesser charging cycles, we have to change our batteries more frequently.

I never personally have a phone longer than a year... free upgrade phone, then sell old one on ebay
