Ok guys I’m going to tell you a little story about o2:

Today I decided to go get myself a k750i from my local o2 store, so I walked in to the store and asked the assistant if the had any k750i’s in stock.

To which he replied "yes we have one left, just take a seat while i go get it for you"

So the guy comes back out and shows me the phone and asked how I would like to pay for it, I the reoffered to the catalogue and said that I would like to buy it sim free for £300.

Now this is were it gets interesting, He looked at me and said, "Sorry sir but I can't sell it to you sim free as it just isn't profitable"!!!!

To which I replied " so you catalogue is completely misleading?

He the said “Sorry sir but I have nothing to do with the catalogue” and that “management has decided not to sell the phone that way”

At this point I asked to speak to a member of management, but you guessed it! They were out to lunch! So I promptly left the store and I will never return to that one again!

So I thought I’d give the o2 store in East Kilbride a chance to redeem my faith in o2. But this store is even worse!

I walked in and was greeted by the smiling face of the sale assistant, I Once again asked if the had an k750i’s in stock to which she replied

“Yes we have five in stock take a seat while I go get one”

So she came out with the phone and I said I would like to purchase it sim free, At this point she looked at me like I was speaking Swahili!

She then went into the back of the shop and came back and said sorry "sir but we don't sell phones like that!" I referred to the catalogue again.

At this point she really astounded me, I asked why the wouldn’t honour the catalogue and she said…………………

“Because we don’t want to!”

At this point it just laughed and walked out of the store! I can safely say I will never use either of these o2 store again!

so the more of the story is o2 in glasgow will only sell to you if they want too!

Very true, every 02 store seems to have there own seperate rules. Where you'd think they would operate every store under the same guidelines, they just seem to be seperate from each other, which means the printed catalogue is wrong for some stores and right for others!

Posted by Superluminova
i just found it funny that the reason was beacuse they didn't want to! its was like being back a primary school

Posted by dude_se
dont buy it from any o2 store. it all seems like a con to me. get one from some other store and tell o2 that they can stick their k750's where the sun aint shining (or they can give me one )

I have also experienced some 'unexpected' behaviour in an O2 store. Not quite the same scenario, but nevertheless. When the X3 was about to be launched last year, I saw it advertised in an Index catalogue (of all places!)and then I went to the O2 store in Barking, Essex, to see if they had any more info or prices to compare.
The lady behind the counter thought I was taking the p**s, as they had NEVER heard of an X3 and thus it couldn't possibly exist as they also hear about what's on its way well in advance, although they had the X1 and X2 at that point. I told her that there were pics and basic specs in the latest(back then) Index catalogue, and she got all offensive and said I must have read incorrectly! I promptly walked 30 metres to the Index store, picked up a copy, took it back to the shop and showed 'Ms. P.R.O.' what an X3 looks like...
it was difficult to supress any due smugness at that point. Quite funny that, a place like Index being more 'up to speed' than the actual local O2 shop's staff at the time.

it just about sums up o2 really hte network doesnt work properly and now the staff dont know what they are doing makes you wonder how thye keep their customers perhaps we should start a boycote on here be interesting lol

I can understand from their point of view why they don't want to sell it...

They have a very limited stock of them, and at the moment you can only get them from o2 stores. They might not be getting more stock of them until next week...

That phone is an exclusive reason to get a new contract with o2. They make a bonus of something like £30 on the sale of it on a £30 p/m contract. where they will make nothing selling it sim-free.

Yeah but why advertise it sime free then? surely it is false advertising if you don't sell that way?

Posted by david1975
thats the point its false advertising o2 can be fined heavily for that if o2 are reading this forum i suggest they follow up any complaints but then agian i expect they wont bother

As striker says above, the store manager's obviously have some freedom over the catalouge... of course they do, thats why they can price match, or include some free accessories to swing the sale.

Here's what happened to me yesterday....

I popped into my local O2 store yesterday and asked if i could see a demo of the k750 to which the shop assistant replied "we don't do demo's"...i said and why not?..he replied we are in short supply of this handset so we cannot afford to demo a new handset like this.So i said ok so can i at least just have a look at one..to which he replied yes no problem i'll go and fetch one for you.he came out a couple of mins later with a box and took the phone out and said there you go.Then he suddenly says let me put the sim card and battery in it so that you can turn it on..to which i just gave him a funny look!..He was offering to let me play with the features, which he initially said he could'nt do...What a weirdo!

Posted by Superluminova
Yes i'm sure they have some freedom but it is still false advertising as it say nothing about the deal being at the managers disgresion

Posted by Andaho
yeah, I suppose it is false advertising. I'm sure if you went back into the store calmly and asked to speak to the manager he'd sell it sim free.

Please forgive my ramblings on o2's side... I'm just making this argument as I just got a k750i and came back to this forum, but need 10 posts to show my k750i icon

Posted by david1975
i doubt it i really if they only think of the money i expect they are on a bonus system for every contract phone they sell so will tell you any bullshit not to let oyu have what you want its about time these so called phone shops with so called sales advisor actually did what they are paid to do they should do as you say not the other way round the customer is always right they should remember that its the consumer that pays their wages

Posted by dave_uk
Wrong as it is, they are well covered by all sorts of disclaimers and the reasoning is simply that while stock is limited, the retailers want to maximise the profit they are making on each handset, which is done by selling them with new connections. I don't know but would it be more expensive to get it on an O2 100 contract, for example, than sim-free? Still annoying, but a possible solution. No excuses for the rudeness and blatant stupidity though!

And as for this...

I actually have a bad story from my visit to the o2 store buying my k750i yesterday...

Selling me the insurance; I explained that I was going to be buying a 1gb memory stick pro duo card, and they cost about £100, would that be covered on the insurance?

He told they actually sell them in the o2 catalouge for £199 and I'd be able to claim that on the insurance. The one they sell in the catalouge is the "high speed" version.

After getting home and looking through the paperwork, the insurance only covers me for accessories upto the value of £25

I have email consumer advice uk to see where we the consumer stand on this matter, so its a case of waiting and seeing.

Posted by Andaho
The cheapest way to get the k750i phone is to take a £30 p/m contract (the lowest contract you can get it free on), and after 3 months, knock it down to the lowest line rental tariff.

Posted by david1975
if you can put up with te branding its available on orange now

Posted by Superluminova
dave: true some contacts will work out cheaper over the year, but if you don't want a contract surely that shouldn't mean your treated like a leper?

Posted by david1975
yeah its just cheaper on a contract plus if you waited a month or so the sim free price will fall plus if you have a contrct then i bet o2 will get a few monthly bills wrong and cause you untold stress

Posted by dave_uk
no mate, of course not. I'm not condoning their behaviour but separating the sales rep's moronic behaviour from their actual commercial policy. It's standard practice to release handsets where supply is limited to new contract customers first, followed by upgrades and then sim-free, as the margin on sim-free handsets is lowest.

However, they should be alot more transparent with their advertising, but unfortunately these companies don't operate like that - they want to get people into the shops and worry about the broken promises if they can't successfully sell you something else!

Posted by david1975
yeah i see what your saying i still think something should be done though

Posted by Superluminova
I completely get what your saying mate about them and sales figures, its just the fasle advertising and there attiude stinks, cpw is much nicer

Posted by dave_uk
lol - nicer but they still haven't got it yet!

And now that I've moved to T-Mobile, I'm going to have to wait for a horrible branded D750i....grrrr!

@Superluminova
Take up the matter with O2's head office. I am sure that they would not want shops to turn away any sales.

Posted by fatreg
spot on jcwhite!

take it up with hq. Phone o2 and say i spoke to x in y store and b in a store and both refused to sell me a phones on gruonuds that it didnt make them enough,

i had simliair dealings with o2 over my P900 way back when and it was faulty and he woulnt let me swap it as he had none in stock, yet posing as a new costomer over the phones then had them! funny that!

he got the sack

its great what a few little clever words can do!

O2 staff are still better than Orange phone trainers...phone trainers with no knowledge of phones!

Posted by fatreg
id beg to differ Axxxr,

ask me any question about any phone on the Orange range and i reckon i could answer it!!

apparently im known at HQ for being clever with laptops and phones and syncing!

fatreg

Posted by axxxr
Coming from an orange background and having worked for O2 aswell for a while i can easily compare the two...and i must say that O2 staff beat orange retail staff hands down when it comes to handset knowledge...Obviously i can't say this for all orange staff but i would say a vast majority.

Posted by lovewalrus
kinda back to topic-from a legal standpoint, O2 aren't im breach me advertising regulations as they did not intentionally or falsely advertise or mislead customers on the pricing me a product. they have a legal right to not sell any product within there range without giving any prior notice. however, this is extremely bad example me service considering the industries reputation for luring customers into shops with ambiguous offers!

Posted by fatreg
how is it not false advertising if it states in black and white that you can buy it sim free for £300 but when you get to a shop they wont let you!

thats classed as flase advertising in my book.

i sure as hell know that at my place of work if its in the magazine we have to honour it, and i work along the same lines of shops as o2 retail!

@ Axxxr was a bit of a sweeping statement! as you pount out, no you cant comment on the whole of 1800 phone trainers, but a lot more than you imaigne now a lot about phones!

@reg

It's no different from when Orange released the Nokia 6230 to new customers before it was available on upgrade, as they generate more revenue that way. The only difference seems to me that the shop staff at O2 are honest (to their own detriment, and unnecessarily rudely) about why the handset is not available. I remember phoning Orange several times and getting a range of BS stories, the best of which was about how "extra testing" was required before it could be released for upgrade....I ask you!

Don't get me wrong, I make no generalisations about all staff, having worked in mobile retail myself, I am well aware how annoying (and wrong) the sweeping judgments can be. But it is my experience, across the board, that the rule of thumb in the mobile industry seems to be, "if you don't know, blag it!"

Of course, there are a few who do know, but I would admit that you don't come across them all that often.

Ugh... I hated Orange when I was with them... I asked for an upgrade and they ended up giving me 2 contracts...and then I switched to 02 because of what Orange did with the K700. They were REALLY useless. 02 hasn't been so bad lately, although they did manage to phone me on the train pestering me about the fact that my contract was about to run out. Extremely annoying.

A challenge - how do I set up Wifi on my M2000 to work with my home wireless network????? I rang Orange and they said the don't support this feature even though it's released as an orange manufactured phone! The 2nd time I rang up they gave for me a telephone no for the wifi helpline for France Telecom!
