Do you think the new upgrade will still change the Orange icons etc, or do you think the networks stopped the upgrading, so they had time to get their sticky fingers over it?

Posted by darrengf
Orange has asked SE to stop the update until the firmware has been approved. I am aware that there is a new firmware out again within the next few weeks. I have been informed that If you update the phone the icons will revert back to the Orange icons, however i cant be 100% certain of this. I hope it doesnt, but I cant see whay they would want to revert to SE.

Thanks

how do i actually tell SE of the bugs i have found. i have the new firmware and still get loads of problems.

cheers

Also what is the "hold c" procedure for? the firmware update itself or the USB drivers for the k750?

Thanks

The hold 'c' is for both parts. I believe holding the 'c' is a way to start the phone without turning it on so the computer can recognize it and then you can 1) update the computer's flash drive 2) update the phones firmware.

When I use to update the k700i it would check to see if you had the latest fw and told you so and went no further.
The k750i updater just lets you keep updating ???

Joshua -

I have posted a copy of the eu_4 customization with my firmware. It uses the same main firmware file as the eu_3. So you don't have to find my original post however many pages ago, its at http://www.tc.umn.edu/~canf0015/se_firmware/

I haven't tried swapping out my eu_3 for eu_4 yet because I don't want to deal with recovering my phone if it screws up because I don't have a backup. Let me know if it works and how you did it because I really want to use eu_4!

Read through the posts in this thread you'l see that most of us are having probs and some on other networks to. We are all waiting for the next FW release from SE which is due very soon

Posted by jedi-knight83
ah ok.

sorry. last time i checked the thread was page 25 or there abouts!! page 41 now!

so annoying that it isnt published which FW version SE are currently running on the update facility... its just a case of plugging in... doing the update and hoping its a new one as far as i can see!!

Posted by Fontie
Ive been reading this thread for a few days now infact since i updated the FW on my phone so im up to date but yea i can imagine for someone just coming in this thread its hard to catch up. This is the first and after this FW fiasco possiby the last SE phone i shall own imo SE should never have released this FW it looks like it was thrown to-gether quickly to cure some of the bugs but has introduced the GPRS connection bug. I just hope they get it sorted some time soon

Posted by jedi-knight83
cool thanks

i will wait for the next FW update from SE

this is also my first SE phone and although it offers so much more compared to my old nokia 6230... my old 6230 never had a single problem!!!

pull your finger out SE and get it fixed

It does check just like it did for your k700 and won't continue with the update if you are up-to-date. The issue for people is that they won't know when they should try and update (without reading a forum like this) b/c SE doesn't seem to post info about a new firmware in a place people can regularly check.

Another change that i noticed in the new firmware is that the signal strength meter has been updated. It now also changes colour instead of just changing the number of bars.

Hi, as a new member I've tried to follow this thread from beginning to end. I've got a vodafone branded k750i and SEUS said there was no update for my operator currently available. Am I right in thinking that once the new firmware is released it will be possible to update the vodafone version with SEUS, and it's only temporarily disabled ?

Posted by TheWhizz_68
It doesn't check matey well it didn't this morning anyway , i already had here a k750i with r1j002 fw and it updated it again exactly with the same fw and i tried again after and it was going to update again.

Posted by itstomhi
Anyone no if the reason my k750i doesn't work as remote control for my laptop is a firmware problem or something else.
I have the original fw with EU_3

:Thanks:

Anyone know where in the world this FW is posted to the SE site from IE America, China Timbuckto Just wondering, if its UK then everyone would have gone home now so no chance of update to-day but if its ohh i dunno China say then there still a chance it will be up to-day

My apologies and that stinks. It cliams that it checks to see which type you have...so you get the right one (eu1, eu3, eu4, etc.). Figured it would check the version number too.

-mmm I think Monday was the easliest expected date. The words imminently and next week sit uncomfortably with me. Me too - I miss the GPRS.

Found another change too, just before you send an SMS when it says who it's too, the text used to be white (and almost unreadable). Now you can read it, it's black.

i've tried to update my phone on two computers now, each time i get to the same stage.

'Download and install the client application
After completing the installation you will be redirected to the correct web page automatically'

I press next and... nothing happens. Its just like its waiting for something. Maybe i'm just missing something

Posted by Sebby
@ hes_bak

This is because you need to update your Java version.

http://www.java.com/

Oh it works now. I just had to open my temporary internet folder and copy the file to my desktop and run it from there. Strangely i had to change the extension from a html to an exe before it worked. After all that my phone won't work on the thing anyway. I'm on o2 as well

I am looking for the EU_5 CDA File(s)

@ itstomhi

I tried using the K750 (new firmware) remote control functions on both my desktop and laptop computers the other day and it worked first time on both machines - I was rather surprised but pleased, of course.

I have a Billionton Bluetooth dongle, plugged it in and XP automatically installed all the drivers, including HID stuff.

Partnering the devices worked first time and now I can control the mouse pointer, music player and Powerpoint from the phone, without a glitch.

The range seems very good, too - I could control the PC from over 10m away.

Hope that helps - so it can be done in practice but it may be something to do with your BT adapter/dongle. The Billionton dongle is great but I also have a Matsumi dongle that has never worked and, when I find it, will soon have a home in the rubbish bin.

Just got a week23 K750i for a friend from CPW , still has the old FW on it ? Think i'll hold off b4 updating this phone

They have it for £249.99 on 02 payasugo now and it's sim free

And then i got my discount

Posted by Sebby
Not a bad price. Of course, I got mine for £129.99 from Orange as an early upgrade, though it's not unbranded... yet.

Posted by Fontie
Would i be right in thinking that there will be no chance of a FW update untill Monday at the earliest I would imagine SE programers wouldnt work weekends

Posted by Sebby
@ Fontie

Yep, this is what has been said so far.

I think SE programmers will be hard at it - the SEUS team of course will be at home so even if there is an upgrade which is available to programme new handsets it wont appear at SEUS until Monday at the earliest.

Don't you just hate this statement? (I know, it's not Monday yet...)

Your device is not permitted to use this service
Your operator does not approve the use of this service with this device.
We look forward to assisting you again soon.
Thank you for using the Sony Ericsson Update Service!

Posted by r00t
I keep getting "error in communicating with the device" error at last step of the update (right after removing usb cable, waiting 20 sec., pressing "C" and connecting usb again to start update)

I tried everything at this forum, even I updated java from java.com
I can connect to my phone to browse with usb cable without any problem.
Pls.Help.

CAMERA TROUBLES SINCE UPDATE -- I updated the firmware to R1J002 on Tuesday - fixes most of the problems I was having.

HOWEVER - I have just looked at the pictures I've taken since then; they all have long magenta streaks across them and the whole picture has a grainy look, even in bright light (the streaks seem worse the brighter since then, too).

It could just be coincidence, but all the pictures prior to the update were fine.

Is any else having trouble like this?

Posted by djsaad1
Yeah my pictures have more noise in them now after the update

Posted by mvinodkuumarr
A while ago i sucessfully updated to R1J002 firmware.
I will update my view about this after reviewing phone functionality

It would be better to say "Your Operator does not approve of this phone on their network. Please return it to the store where you purchased it and demand a Nokia"

so pics taken with new firmware are worse?:S

Posted by iboodita
Sorry dont agree, all the pics I have look just great

Posted by rickster2kuk
Just downloaded my photos post upgrade to new FW and there fine, just as before.

Just need my GPRS to work.

Posted by mvinodkuumarr
@gr3gg0

Nope they are not worse what i wanted to say is there is not much difference between the old firmware pics and new firmware pics in general quality. Well as i am not a professional photographer i can't say if there is any real difference in the performance of the two firmware.

But there will be certainly a difference as its a new firmware something or the other should be new

My intention of keeping the pics here is for general consideration to every user and they them self can decide wether they do find any difference or not rather than saying it in words.

About internet search option its still bothering me do any of u guys have the same problem..

Cant do anything remotely to do with GPRS / WAP / internet / anything. Only GSM calls possible. Oh and the camera still works but video quality is v.poor.

R1A used to work with little bother - just hope SE allow us to downgrade to R1A because it was no bother on my handset.
