K750 / W800 Firmware Overview

Indeed, but perhaps, it's an incentive to upgrade.

I know the logic behind this might sound absurd, since there are already third party softwares to update like DaVinciTeam, SETOOL2, Cruiser, etc. However, when you compare the pain of having to update everytime with MONEY (for a better feature that the local firmware disabled) with a phone that's more powerful than it's predecessor in all capacity (and which has resolved most of what was in your wishlist), chances are, your temptations will overwhelm / provoke you into buying the upgrade.

Though a handful of us find this pain and hassle of updating with money (for the better feature) worth it, I am sure there is also an equal or above majority who support upgrading to a better model (3.2 Megapixels, Edge, 3G, WLAN, WiFi, etc support, better design, more space, more features with the previous issues resolved) - also a testament for SE that they are on the right track, and there is no need to look back at the bugs all the time - just resolving it in the next model will do since someone will buy it, if not you or me.

Perhaps tion could provide more insight into this email from SE?

@z3ky, This news of a new firmware is great news (probably an official release of R1BA013?). Are you (or indeed anyone else) able to shed some more light on what this firmware may entail? The forum that you link to is in a language that I am not so hot at!!

Posted by baste07
i hope they release it soon and really good updates

I agree that the K800 looks a good phone BUT after the FW for the K750 has caused so many problems and disappointment I will not be buying another SE phone whilst Ericsson write the FW.

I am waiting on the N80 since this has S60 OS which is stable.

I must admit I read the spec for the K800 and every few seconds thought 'that sounds good BUT the software won't work'.

SE have been busy

Yet another new SEUSII out Version 2.6.3.3.
Open SEUSII and it should auto update to the new version

Hope the New Firmware is just behind it

Posted by jasond
I notice that SE are frequently updating the version of their SEUS installers.

Does anyone have an educated answer as to the immediate advantages of this?

Posted by rockygali
maybe the developers are keepin an eye over these kinda forums....

maybe the recently released SEUS versions are really faulty...

thats why they hafta make some certain adjustments... im just hoping theyd do the same for firmwares.... i just hope..

It would be nice to have Voice Dialling on the K750 like the T610/T630/Z600.

Instead of having to remember whether you said the caller's full name or just their first name then 'mobile' or 'home'. So silly if the caller has a long name then you gotta say home, mobile, etc... after it without a pause.

Then there can be up to 4 voice tags per contact! Instead of just the one voice tag per contact like the T6x0.

I liked the T610 when I can just say the name of the person I want to dial, then it would beep at me again to say 'Home', 'Mobile', etc... So much more easier.

I wonder if SE would be able to change this via a Firmware upgrade?

Wrt the german e-mail, here's what Systran has to say:

"Very honoured customer, very honoured customer,

thank you for your inquiry to the Sony Ericsson call center.

Our Backoffice indicated us that it will give which to 11 a new update
in the calendar week the described conflict recovers. We would ask you
the update to bring in as soon as this are available. They find it
then over our on-line Aktuallisierungsservice within the area
"support" on http://www.sonyericsson.com/de

Please you contact us, if we can offer further support to you,
and visit you us also under www.sonyericsson.com. Here we offer
constantly new information and interesting supplies - e.g. ring of
tone or Virtual Phones."

I bet this has something to do with week 11 of the calendar year, which happens to be next week

Fingers crossed

yes, that's exactly what it means!

So the R1BA013 firmware is not an official one, that's it? What is the cruiser team? And where can we get that firmware?

Judging by his posts I don't find that email credible unless he proves otherwise, anyway, find this "last firmware" information a hoax, it may be more than one in future

Posted by baste07
wow i can't wait for next week.... week 11 .. new firmware coming

Posted by z3ky
exciting!
we need no oscars... we need no soccer world master ship... we just need a new fw!!!!!

Posted by rockygali
i guess we will be gettin what we want... a new firmware that is...

again... im hoping that this new firmware comes with less bugs... maybe unnoticeable ones...

How can i get a firmware update without doing it myself??? I'm only asking as i don't have a decent net connection at home. I tried my local service centre and they just looked at me funny and then told me they'd have to charge me for it if the phone wasn't faulty???? Both my k750 and w800 need doing.

Posted by rabitootoo
go to school or work and use their connection.

Wha?!

Then tell them of the firmware faults/bugs your K750 and W800 have. Then they wouldn't need to charge you for the update.

I agree with kristianm, say the phone behaves in a temperamental fashion, freezing, resetting, etc, etc. But only does it sometimes...

Make sure you back everything up, naturally! And it may pay to put in an anonymous phone call beforehand to confirm that it is actually the very latest firmware that you are getting, and not just the same version!

Of course, most preferable would be to go to work, or a friend's work (somehow) and flashing it over SEUS there...

Posted by dj_wolfinstein
my dad's K 750 is still on the orignal FW, Lets hope this new one gives me more than a reason to upgrade,,,,,

It's a really stupid policy if you think about it. Haven't the people on that service centre ever asked themselves, why would there be newer firmware for a particular phone if the current firmware is already working perfectly?

Hi, I been trying to install SEUS 2 for quite sometime now but i was never successful. The latest i have tried is SEUS 2.2.13.7d but i was not able to complete the installation, i even let it run for almost 7 hours but i'm still stuck at 'installing...' part, so i have to cancel it.

I have windows xp pro sp2 os. below is a part of the log that was generated. does anyone knows the cause to this problem. I am just hoping that a firmware upgrade can solve the problem of not being able to do multicharacter search on the contacts names. Thanks .

Install Begin: Wed Mar 08 03:35:18 CST 2006
Install End: Wed Mar 08 10:12:31 CST 2006

Created with Zero G's InstallAnywhere 5.0.3 Enterprise Build 1584

INSTALLATION WAS CANCELLED BY USER DURING PRE-INSTALLATION

Any changes to FW or still the same roundabout

Hi, I have a Sony Ericsson K750i phone. I just updated the firmware from the UK SE Update Service site, and have recieved the firmware version: R1AA008

Everything seems fine so far, camera looks good, havent tested calling yet, but I noticed one 'error' When transferring files to my MS-Duo Pro & Back to my phone, the transfer bar that comes up doesnt have an animation or picture now, It just appears a blue bar...

Has anyone else noticed this? Is it really something to worry about? I updated it to get my camera version up from 4.4 to 4.5 since I'm going to egypt for holidays so want to take the best pics!!

Posted by jasond
I haven't received that error message myself, I do think I recall a change in the progress bar however. Hard to remember..

Egypt? Nice. Me personally, if I were travelling to Egypt (all the way from Australia), I might consider investing in a slightly more upmarket camera just for the trip? It depends how into the photos you are (or aren't!), but there is much more potential in a dedicated digital camera over the K750i, especially for a once-in-a-lifetime holiday!

hope they erlease a new FW soon

Could this be the new version we have all been waiting for??? What are your impressions about the "hissing" issue. What about the parameter incorrect bug (happens when copying files from phone)

Posted by masseur
I just updated my EUROPE_2 to R1BC002.

I'll give it a good test tomorrow

Posted by Hesky
Let the forum flooding begin!!!!!!

Posted by Uncle Bob
When I try the update it reccons that I have the latest version. My phone is a UK based O2 phone

Posted by CyberVisitor
@masseur

Any difference in sound quality (i.e. is the hissing gone)?

@All

Strange, I just tried updating a friends "never branded/never locked" K750i with R1N035 (EU_4) but got the message that the phone was up to date... very strange since at least R1AA008 should be available...

Posted by darrengf
Orange is Still R1AA008 K750

Will keep checking and update asap

Any one know if it fixes the hissing

Any other new improvements ??

I just updated to R1B002 EU2, I'm on O2 unlocked and unbranded .
I haven't checked the sound quality yet however the screen seems more vivid, and the joystick is now more responsive.

Lets hope it's fixed the bluetooth issues.

Posted by baste07
wow great, i'm going to try this out

Posted by darrengf
Can you tell us if the hissing has gone ??

Posted by Ja99iE
@darrengf

I can't hear any hissing, just made a quick call to test (assume that's where it happens) . Can't say I've ever encountered the hiss before though.

Posted by darrengf
Cheers. Oh well i will have to wait and See when Orange approves it. another 2 months later then that is lol. They have only just approved the last one lol

Posted by Ja99iE
I tried the update on a W800i too but it didn't work (no error message, just kept locking up) but that's O2 branded so maybe that's why.

Posted by baste07
when SEUSSII release a new FW they release it for al regions right? so its jsut a matter of time when it will it be available on their upate system?

Posted by jasond
I must say I am a little confused about SEUS vs SEUSII.

Currently I am at this page:

http://www.sonyericsson.com/s[....]1&pid=10242&fid=21839&esi=true

Can someone please tell me if this is related to the most recent update service?

Posted by lmoh97
R1AA008 has this menu alread "Device mgmt." as far as im aware of.

I'll try if it's available now in APAC region.

Posted by rockygali
i second the motion... that option was there in R1AA before... still scoping new details of the said firmware...

EDIT:
Ok heres my first impression of the new firmware R1BC002 (EU2).
Before i go i would just like to note that these are only my own personal observations... none of these will be factual unless others confirm it.

Firstly, I think after every upgrade it increases the volume, like right now, with R1BC i think it has increase a notch or half.. via headset and via speaker (i really dunno prolly the excitement or sumthin). Others might add that theyve noticed screen improvements... again i might add up to them yes i kinda notice that one too... however Main Display is still at Ver. 0 (funny isnt it).

Second, its a bit quicker this tym, jumpin from one menu to the other, opening you SMS composition screen, before itll take you 1.5-2 secs to see your SMS composition window. but its a bit quicker.

Third, i have experienced themes acting weird every update. again after update the progress bars of these themes dont show up... you hafta uninstall all themes then put them back in... to make the progress bar go workin again...

EDIT: sorry about this, you can just change your themes to sumthin else for the progress bar to get good again...

its all that i can contribute at this stage... got lotsa work and i cant do experiment more... but overall impression.. i think theres hasnt been to much for this firmware.. i hope sumone could do a test on bluetooth devices, WAP and voice dialling.. maybe theres sumthin there

ciao peeps!
