Hi all,
new here but did not see this mentioned anywhere so I'm asking.
I'm running a w800i with latest firmware (from december) and I wonder if anybody noticed that bug that it will always confirm if I want applications send to the internet.
I know there is a setting that says "no" -> "ask" -> "ask once" that would probably change that behaviour but it's already set to "ask once" and still asking me all the time.
This appears to be happning with all my applications I have installed on the phone, which I want to connect to the internet.
Anybody found a remedy? I wonder why nobody else seem to have this problem when a friend of mine has the exact problem - and he's actually the only other one I know with that phone
Thanks,
Tom

I've had the same thing happen to me.
Another thing I have found is if I have a person with an assigned picture and ringtone call me, the screen goes the color of the theme background, for a few seconds, before I can see who it is calling.

the solution is to put your own java certificate into the phone, then sign your midlets with that certificate and install them into phone.

That's odd. I used the UK version of R1AA008 firmware when I upgraded, and I don't appear to have a "silent shutter" mode.
Perhaps that differentiation is not in the firmware, but instead in the hardware. I wonder how many different variants of hardware configs there are out there???
Strange...

Thanks for posting that. I was unaware of the connection there. Considering the other issues, I doubt I'll worry about this one.
I seem to recall hearing some crackling when I received a call the other day (after upgrading to R1AA008) but I'm not sure if it was there before and I didn't notice it, it's new, or if I just think it's there because I'm expecting it after reading this thread...
Anyway, the bugs are minor, overall...

The Silent Shutter varys on handsets, In some countrys it is ilegal to have the camera and not make a noise on a phone. Hence not being able to turn off the shutter sound when in silent mode.
My shutter is silent when in silent mode (UK unbranded virgin mobile).
Using Davinci you can enable or disable the sound when in silent mode but it will cost you
Hope that helps you all.

If you've been waiting....go forth and collect

Hi all
Is there any news on the NEXT firmware i.e. one after R1AA008 as it has been nearly 2 months since the last update?

any news on a new firmware and/or when its coming?
Posted by arnoldc
I upgraded mine yesterday, but I had to remove the previous SEUS installation on my notebook after it encountered an error updating itself.
I re-installed the client from SE support site and everything was perfect thereafter.
So far there is nothing I can complain about. This was a big change after my phone was screwed the first time I used SEUS 2.

One bug I noticed in R1AA firmware is that after i record a sound of abt 3-5 min or longer ... when i go back to MY SOUNDS and on the recorded file to play it or rename or any other function for that sake, the phone turns slow. its kind of getting hanged for some time. Anyone else noticed this?

@milo
Now I know that this is the problem of the new firmware 008. I just updated the firmware again to eliminate the possibility of a corrupted upgrade, but it's too early to judge.
I wonder if they will ever make a flawless firmware, I beginning to think they do it on purpose... to piss us off... They correct bugs but keep creating new ones, I've had it!!

wotta logical decision... way to go... well ive seen these comments everywhere, those consumers that would love to be served as kings & queens, sheesh.
SE like all other companies is a developing company, theyve invented & reinvented stuff, this is technology were talking here, its a continuous process, youll create certain stuff, learn its flaws then re-create a new one, but along the way, new flaws will be discovered... so thats why its a continuous process, its not that exact. And i really hate it when people dont get what they deserve, but then what can we do? we'll just have to comment on things, and let them know what else theyve missed...
but then again, IF YOU DONT LIKE THE TECHNOLOGY, DONT USE IT!
cheers!

take it easy dude... i can see you're a fan of SE, but there are bugs in 008 that WEREN'T there in 035. I can name three precisely.
And I do understand the process of development... They could try harder though and not spoil thing that worked fine...
cheers...

@arnoldc
did you notice any of the bugs stated here, eg hiss in calls, short alarms, etc? thanks!

hehehe lawrona... im not in flames man.. neither a fan of SE....
im a big fan of TECHNOLOGY itself...

AA firmware sure does feel slower when goin throught the menu...does anybody else have that problem and it cam takes ages to start on opening the cover...
Posted by rockygali
i dont really know... but coming from fw R1N, to R1AA the menus look alot like zippier than the previous one... to change from one menu item to the other.. its alot snappy than R1N...
thats my own observation.

I worked as a software developer for 2 years and have been in the IT industry for 10. I know that most companies in our marketplace (100k people, government city) tend to rush software development for the sake of completing tasks on time. Quality is effected and it causes an obvious increase in updates and bug fixes. I definitely would not be surprised to see this in a large corporate entity.
That said, trying to create perfect firmware for a little piece of hardware that isn't consistent from country to country and can change from month to month is a moving target at best.
Right now my phone is at about 98% usability. Just a few bugs. Certainly, I'd like 0 bugs, but if every angle of the software on it is usable and workable on a daily basis, I'm happy.
i.e. I could live with a little hum or a slightly less than 100% crisp image if all the functionality (including GPRS) was working 100%.
Just my $0.02

@leibniz
nice way of putting it mate.... heheh very decent... i wish i could be like that...
cheers!

yeah.. it would be impossible for se to create a 100% FW. but if would really help if they would create a FW that addresses what the consumer wants.

just upgraded my d750 to R1AA008
anything im gona notice thats gonna annoy me? seams ok so far.. lol

I must be the only person that has no problem whatsoever. All these bugs every one mentions - well, I've never come across them on my phone. My phone is a standard O2 supplied phone with the British version of the firmware.
OK, fine, if I have to mention a slight problem; the quality of the photos is definitely not 2 mega-pixels. When downloading a photo to my pc it looks a bit, no, a lot grainy/pixelated compared to photos taken with my canon IXUS camera (also 2 meg resolution)
But I'm not complaining as I hardly ever take photos with the phone and also not really bothered about it.

Same her with my W800i. There are some minor problems, but let's face it, this is a great piece of technology. The only thing I ask for is that SE keeps bringing out new firmwares with slight improvements. Most people don't want new features, but improvements and more stability.
Posted by Chappers
Just thought I'd post to say I've been running the L002 firmware since I had the phone. Tried updating ages ago but it said that my service provider wouldn't let me run the software.
Today, I thought I'd have another go, and low-and-behold, the update went without a hitch. I'm now running the latest firmware, and all seems well.
My W800i continues to be my everyman phone.

i was out of the country for a month, and used another sim. since being back this last week, i have not been able to use dialup service on the phone. any ideas? ive tried more than one dialup account just to make sure that wasn't the problem.

That's the beauty of it - you can!
Posted by leibniz
The only bug that is really causing a problem for me is that my GPRS isn't working. SE says that my config is fine. My service provider techs (Rogers Wireless - Canada) say that all is fine - except it doesn't work. I can't browse or do email via goam.com or media.com with GPRS. (WAP works however.)
It does seem a strange problem, and although I can't be sure it's at all related to the firmware, that remains a possibility.
Once that's ironed out - I'll be the happiest K750i owner on Esato.

After upgrading K750i's firmware from version R1A044 to version R1AA008 (via SEUS 2.2.13.7), if the mobile isn't connected to PC via DCU-60 I can't use any MS Duo Pro.
I think it's a voltage problem (3.3 V vs 1.8 V).
Posted by leibniz
That is weird. For me, I know that when my K750i IS attached to the PC via the cable, the memory stick is unavailable. Disconnect the cable, and it's fine.

I know that and it should be normal (if PC use the Memory Stick card reader, this device is unavalable to mobile).
I'll try reflashaing K750i. In the meantime, I'll use the Memory Stick Duo in the box's phone. :-/

Still no change.
I tried with a couple of SanDisk's Memory Stick Duo Pro 32 MB and a Lexar's Memory Stick Duo Pro 256 MB, but works a Sony's Memory Stick Duo (non-Pro) 64 MB only.

this may have been mentioned before but, is this thread viewed by sony ericsson?
Posted by lawrona
SE could also consider users' needs.
What I'd like to see in the next FW is:
- the possibility of choosing a tune for the calendar reminder and tasks.
- recurring alarms in the calendar (so that I don't have to use Outlook)
- personalizing sounds in different profiles (so far you can only choose the volume)
If you read this dear SE, please indulge me...

hope a new firmware comes out already.
Posted by ales85
the new thing i'd like to see in fw is dynamic use of memory for SMS so i wouldn't have to delete for every 150
Posted by xtek
Why SEUS says that i have the newest soft when I have R1N035 on my w800i?
Posted by baste07
for my my firmware wish list are. (for my k750i)
1 flight mode
2. better multimedia player
3. dynamic sms memory usate ( i like this one, from above)

@arnold
same here pare... no hisses at all... what firmware region do u have? did you update via SEUS 2 from a DVT upgrade?
Posted by arnoldc
rockygali, guess we're lucky huh?
i updated via SEUS 2.2 Asia Pacific
Posted by rockygali
indeed were lucky... SEUS 2 is kinda lenient this time with CID's.
remember i told you that ive upgraded my CHINA, to a EU4 via DVT.
i went on SEUS 2 last december and it read EU2.. funny, but the update went thru...
LUCKY US!!!! hehehe...

My K750i has a problem of the battery charge status being displayed as 75% when the charger is plugged in and a maximum of 96% when it is unplugged. My firmware version is R1N035. Will a firmware upgrade rectify this problem ? Further, will this upgrade affect my phone's warranty (it is only a month old....so will it be better to take it to an authorised service center?)
Please help me coz I don't want the upgrade to lead to some other problems in my phone, since I can live with this if it is only a faulty indicator.
Thanks a ton !!
Posted by rockygali
well if you have ample time to bring it to an SE service center... and you have a ton of patience... i guess its the safest way to do...
i had the same probs... but what i did was to upgrade it via SEUS 2. i wanted to do it myself rather than bring it to an SE service center... here in my place.. people there sux... if you can understand that....
but if its good in your area... then better bring it there...
cheers!

I doubt it. I upgraded to R1AA008 and notice some inconsistency between the battery icon indicator as well as the Phone Status > Battery indicator.
Personally, this is just one of the small glitches I can live with. When it's unplugged, the battery meter is very consistant, so it doesn't bother me. Knowing that there's still plenty of battery left when the meter is down to 25% is heart-warming, which is why I don't worry about it.
However, I seldom take long trips, let alone long trips sans the charger.
Speaking of which; being able to charge via the USB cable - that is very cool.

would you guys pay to see a firmware with flightmode for the k750?
Posted by leibniz
Probably not, because as firmware changes go, I don't believe it is a big thing to add to firmware, and the dissemination of said firmware is quick with little or no overhead.
i.e. The investment that
would have to make to do that in terms of time and money, are, in my best guess, extremely low. That's one of the reasons that particular enhancement is so attractive.
I'm not nor have I ever been any kind of developer (let alone a SE developer) so I don't know this for a fact, I'm basing my thoughts on having years of IT experience, and experience with software development on the whole.
I think flight mode would be a very useful firmware enhancement.

@leibniz:
Thanks a lot for ur help ! I went to the SE service centre......they say it could be a problem of battery drainage and so I will have to leave my phone with them so that they can check it out......
They also told me that in case I get a firmware upgrade, I will lose all the data on my phone. Is that true?? coz I read somewhere that in case of the K750i I will not lose my data in case of an upgrade !!
Sorry for asking such trivial questions....am new to all this firmware stuff !!
