No new news, but just to say post upgrade no data connection or MMS reception for me
A note to people having problems installing, try different USB ports. I tried installing the firmware upgrade from a laptop using a PCMCIA USB2 adaptor and had nothing but stress... i tried it on one of the laptops original USB1.1 ports and hey presto, problem solved.

My phone is also on O2 UK, unbranded.
Since the firmware update I have been able to use GPRS WAP, GPRS Internet and MMS. The only bug I've found is that google won't display in the browser, and I get stuck in an endless loop clicking "OK" to the "Unable to show the selected page" dialog.
Anyone else seen this?

Yes, I've got the same error when I try to view www.google.com, but www.google.com/wml works ok. I think all my shortcuts are for wap versions of pages anyway. Should the K750 be able to view regular HTML?
Lee

no, i don't think so.
that, in fact seems to be the problem, that the google shortcut now points to the inappropriate (html) page. Obvious really.
However, I've checked the xhtml page www.google.com/xhtml which *should* work, but doesn't. Hmm.

Hi
Upgraded my O2 mobile no probs a couple of nights ago. But I am also now experiencing the GPRS bugs. And also more annoyingly my SE Akono HBH 660 bluetooth headset disconnects after about 10 seconds into a call. Headset connection was a bit buggy on the old firmware but is awful now. That was my main reason for upgrading the firmware. Does nobody test these things before releasing firmwares.

Yes, this is what I meant. I was refering to an "O2 branded" phone as one with the O2 theme and the top left icon for internet access (says "O2" when you highlight it) having a small blue O2 symbol on it. It was probably bought at an O2 store.
A non branded "O2 phone" would be one on O2 but without the O2 theme and the standard SE icon for internet access. It may have been bought at an O2 store, but could have been bought elsewhere.
I believe that O2 don't lock any of their phones to the O2 network.

Just updated on Orange network, everything went through smoothly, and all working at the other end which is always the risk eh?
Noticed theyve sorted the bug where it lost the short cut when the phone was rebooted!!
All in all though, the phone was working not too bad before the update anyway!

Upgraded my K750i yesterday, and it worked perfectly.
BTW, I also updated my girlfriends V800... "Updating-frenzy.."

yes, the picture is much better on the T610 I have (in terms of contrast). I also notice my k750 has extraordinarily large amounts of base for pretty much every thing - I'm not talking about the media player function i mean speech mostly.
it did this before the update.
on another note, given that so many problems have occured following this update could it be we will see another release soon? SE seemed reasonably quick to get this one out after the phone's original release dat so having made some people's phones a bit useless you'd hope they would be on the case and update to fix them...which was the point in the first place but it clearly didn't work across the board.
I think it must be down to SE having to accomodate for so many branded types that inevitably some mis-matching will occur. yes i know they shouldn't have released an essentially unrefined product but I gather network providers were leaning pretty heavily on SE to get them out.

Sim free k750i from CPW , 05w20 , since update no gprs or mms
i suspect to cover the idle screen freeze bug.
Very lame of
but hopefully will be sorted very soon....
o2 network here too.

I haven't seen anyone with this problem... maybe it's me being dumb.
I have tried the update procedure and got as far as the 'Power off your device, hold 'c' and plug back into the USB etc.'
However, when I do this, XP says it has detected a new 'flash device' and tries to install drivers but can't find them. I downloaded the driver pack from the SE site but they don't contain the correct file(s) either.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Posted by mb-new
Here is the driver, read the thread thouroughly
http://www.sonyericsson.com/d[....]_Update_Service_USB_driver.zip
Posted by stulittlefair
The drivers you need are the update service USB drivers, available from the sonyericsson website. You might now have the problem that when you repeat the action, windows no longer prompts you for drivers.
If so, there are two ways to proceed.
1) load the device manager, (control panel->system->device manager) and watch for a "USB Flash" item briefly appearing in the "Other devices" category. If that happens, right click and choose "Update drivers", then point the wizard at the files you just downloaded.
2) If that proves impossible, re-boot windows in safe mode (F8 on boot-up), and use system restore to go back to the last restore point. Reboot.

I think in order to confirm if the issue with 02 GPRS is a bad batch or something, it might be worth everyone reporting their build date. I recall seeing some week17 phones with the problem. For the record, mine is a week19 build, and had no GPRS problems following the firmware update. Coincidentally, I had no crashing problems prior to the upgrade either, phone has been turned on for a few weeks now, and my first reset just now is due to the fact I've just taken the battery out to look at the label inside.
It might also be worth any other 02 users that haven't had the problem, confirming their build date also.

Has anyone else struggled to download the update?
Mines taken over half an hour and has frozen my pc. Can't do anything else whilst it's being downloaded.
Is there a quicker way?

Thanks so much for your help and those drivers - got it working in the end.
Had a bit of a scare for a moment as the phone wouldn't switch on and I couldn't get the back off.
But eventually, off it came. I took the battery out for a few seconds, replaced it and the phone started up.
Seems fine so far.

where do you find this out, is it anywhere in the service menu? anyway - getting the problem on an unbranded phone with o2
Posted by shefpete
Well I posted earlier I reported this to o2 and SE. o2 got back to me and told me that they recieved an internal e-mail today about the software and problems relating to GPRS and other matters, and were therefore re-calling K750i's.
They seemed quick to offer a replacement (which will be my 3rd k750i) which I take one of two ways, 1. its easier to swap the phone than to figure out why it's bust or 2. there is a real problem with the k750i. My phone is a week 19 model, had a few lock ups before update, but post update GPRS has packed up - though everything else seems smoother.
They are shipping me a replacement in 3-5 working days which sounds ominously like it'll be a post 20th of June phone. I really don't want another replacement (hastle of setting it up, charging, new t9 dictionaries etc (by the way is there anyway to back that up)) and I hope in this 3-5 working days a fix can be found! (or that wildwayz post is true and firmware will work after the 20th)
I phoned Sony Ericsson direct who were useless, well not useless but didn't offer any reference to a problem, talked me through and sent me GPRS settings (again) and basically did all the basic stuff. but then after we did all that he said call o2 and get it swapped..
There you go update as promised, even though nothing what so ever has been achieved!
Cheers

I too had buggy headset connections on the old firmware. It seemed to improved after upgrading it to R1J002. The connection between the headset and the phone seemed to last longer than before. So far I only experienced the lost connection once, whereby I had to manually connect it.
But thereafter it was OK with no lost connection.
Will report more if there's new findings.

You need to look at the sticker underneath your battery. Tilt the phone and you'll see it in the middle of the sticker but towards the top so you'll need a good light source probably.
For the record, I'm on O2 and have had no problems with my phone since I got it. I'm going to stay away from the latest FW as I'm not convinced it's worth the risk of losing my gprs.
Mine is 05w19.

I emailed SE about a problem with the k750i and the HBH 660 headset. With my old T630, I just used to leave bluetooth on all the time, which meant the HBH 660 headset (which is left in the car) always worked. With the K750, if you move out of range you have to manually remake the bluetooth connection (which is a pain in the arse).
example : T630 in my jeans pocket, HBH-660 in the glove compartment - get out of car, fill up with petrol, go and pay, get back in, can still recieve and make calls on headset
example 2 : K750i in my janes pocket, HBH-660 in the glove compartment - get out of car, fill up with petrol, go and pay, lose bluetooth connection as I move out of range, get back to car, take phone out of pocket, switch off bluetooth, switch bluetooth back on (remakes connection to HBH 660), put phone back in pocket
I emailed SE about this , and they replied telling me the new firmware was coming out soon. I've upgraded it, but it hasn't solved this annoying problem

What is the best course of action with the GPRS issue after updating. Keep the phone and wait for another FW update from SE or demand a new phone from O2 I got mine from a O2 shop so presumably I would have to go back there Only thing with doing that they did say i had 7 days to return the phone for exchange or it would be sent to SE for repair when i got it orriginaly

Hi Colin
I have the HBH-662 with the k750i. and after the upgrade my device is performing 1000 times better.
it has now solved the problem of having the headset not ringing or showing number. And as far to the loosing connection, I have had on the bluetooth all night and it has not lost the connection. but if I try to use another profile that the one assosiated with the headset fx. Sleep then the device may loose the connection. BUT BUT if the phone rings after it lost the connection then it is quick to apply the headset again and the headset rings within a second.
the same happens if I leave the car, the phone looses connection with the headset, and when I return it does not connect automatically (as you described) but as soon as the phone rings (or you make a call) the connection is up and running. But for this to happend, just leave the bluetooth on at all times.
So my conclution is = the device is working now, but the firmware needs to be ajusted a little, so that it shows connection with the device as soon as it is spotted.

I have a 05w19 and I have the GPRS problem too.
To the poster above> If O2 swap the handset (and I'm certain it's a firmware issue not a handset problem - it worked perfectly before the update), what do you do with your current one, so you send it back in advance?
Is there a way to backup your contacts apart from FMA which doesn't work well with the K750i?

my k750 is (05w20) didnt have any problems before or after the update ,nothing what so ever

Found another bug fix. The R1A firmware was not playing some of the ringtones I'd transferred to the phone from my K700 (like "Baby"). It would play the
default instead. The new firmware has fixed that. The EDIT: My phone is 5w21, FWIW.

So, does that mean the problem isn't related to a particular batch? Mine is 05w19 and works fine. Or could there be batches within week19? Very strange situation...?!?!

dodgydodgy..
You keep the handset until a replacement arrives. I agree it can't be a hardware thing, if its such a widespread prob a slight change to the firmware by sony / o2 would be far easier. unless the firmware has shown up a general hardware fault...
I've just been e-mailed by o2 that there are no new / replacement k750i's being issued until the 20th (as I suspected in previous post). They've offered me an alternative phone (samsung, motorola etc.)
I'm going to leave them to it, order a replacement 750i and see what comes to me after the 20th - and see if there is a fix or update in between now and then, I'd prefer it as I have no clue about backing up my 750 at all.
God knows what will happen to o2's stock of 750i's on the 20th to make them all work..
Posted by dodgydodgy
They also fixed a bug relating to resizing of images. If you tried to send a camera picture by email (or MMS) it stated that it needed to resize it. 90% of the time this just hung on my handset - with the new firmware it completes every time.
Of course, i can't actually send the email/MMS (*sigh*), but at least one bug has been fixed.

I've just called SE. They apparently confirmed that it "sounded like a problem".
They said that the update on the web was a generic one, and one which shouldn't have caused any problems - but they are 'imminently' bringing out a range of updates that are operator specific. This would be O2 tested, and therefore you could assume it might fix the problem. They said they would give me a call when it was available.
Hmm.

Hi maggisam
I reset my profiles and deleted the bluetooth pairing with the HBH 660. I then re-paired the two devices and it is working now.
Thanks for the input
Posted by st3v3y
I'm going to wait for the O2 FW version to appear and even then wait for people on here with the gprs problems to see if it has worked.
Tempted to give the SE one a try but then I'm bound to be one of the unlucky ones. My phone is working absolutely bug free so it doesn't need 'fixing'.
I'm keen to know if the new camera updates have had any impact on picture quality so for those that did the upgrade, can you maybe post two identical pictures (before upgrade and after) to show the difference, if there is any that is.
Cheers

After calling SE, I called O2. I'm one of their top customers (apparently - I get special customer service numbers to dial), so perhaps they spent a bit more time to debug things - I talked to them for over an hour.
The upshot was that the firmware released by SE hasn't been tested by O2 and is a generic firmware, thus they can't state that it should work (and seem happy to accept that it doesn't after going through the settings - and having me try my SIM in another phone). All they could suggest was to contact SE to ask to downgrade the handset firmware, or to return to an O2 shop and exchange it.
The problem is that the O2 stores don't have the handset any longer (it's recalled), and aren't certain when they'll get it in. As soon as they recieve the new stock they are happy to swap my handset for a replacement model, even though it will be well outside the 14-day window (after 14 days they usually send the handsets away for repair).
I think I'll sit back, keep using my handset with no GPRS/MMS/Email and wait to see what happens first - either SE call me with the O2 firmware, or O2 start selling the handsets in-store and I can swap the handset.
That's about as far as I think we can go for now folks.

Mines not playing ball, it keeps showing "Error in communication with the device
Make sure you have removed and reinserted the battery. Then try to start the device.
If your device shows an error message or does not start at all, click Recovery Mode
If your device behaves normally, click Start over.
If the problem persists, please contact support. "
I've tried ten times and done recovery mode.

@theunknown04
The K750i i took back was week 20 and the replacement is the same , i had no problems with the phone so i really didn't need to update the FW.
The pictures i took last night would have been with the new fw but I didn't get any blurs with either fw ?
Only took the phone back due to updating and then not be able to use gprs and mms, also it was the bluewater store.
This is one from last night with the newer FW , i did use photoshop though to adust the contrast levels ect.

Semms SE or O2 now know there is a problem as trying to upgrade FW on a O2 phone brings up.
"Your device is not permitted to use this service
Your operator does not approve the usage of this service for this device.
We look forward to assist you again soon.
Thank you for using Sony Ericsson Update Service"
Posted by rickster2kuk
Well what a disaster this upgrade has been for me.
Spend about 45mins on various phone calls to SE, O2 this morning, SE intially weren't very helpful, O2 told me what i knew already; the firmware isn't approved on O2.
Went to the O2 shop at lunchtime and they told me the only way to fix this problem was to send it back to O2 repair (which will take a week) where they would re-flash the phone to the original firmware.
Rang SE again this afternoon and the guy was much more helpful, he aknowledged that SE know there are issues with the new firmware and that they are working towards an 'iminment' release of operator specific firmware - I pushed him for an ETA (as O2 will take a week to fix it) and he said this week.
So i'm going to hold on in there, and fingers crossed, i'll be able to use the SEUS again to get my GPRS working.
Pretty relieved that SE know there's a problem, after not knowing whatsoever this morning.
