@MLAM
I'll take your advice with the 'if it aint broke dont fix it' since my phone is fine on the previous firmware.
I know it may have been covered before but what actually does the new firmware improve?
Thanks

Does anybody have a picture comparison between the old firmware to the new one.

If so please host it in imageshack thanks.

Changes discovered so far:
- images are stored faster on the Memory Stick (MS)
- general speed improvements
- maybe small improvements on volume and network connection quality
- new autofocus confirmation sound
- new "Mp3"-folder on MS
- correct translation of month names in calendar (may only apply to german language)
- some fixes for 'freezing' mobiles

Its entirely up to you mate, most people have done it because there phones have had frequent freezing, mine had it but its been ok of late but i wanted to go with the newer firmware anyway

I did it in hopes of getting a louder earpiece volume but I didn't get it I have a week 20 (05w20) and EU_1

Again, can anyone confirm whether the font used when typing a text message has been changed to a smaller one (as in viewed messages are or as they are on the K700)?

I've got the D750i on T-Mobile. There doesn't appear to be a firmware upgrade for this phone yet. Anyone know when to expect it?

I guess the K750 upgrade would work but I'm not going to risk it. Has anyone tried? I've had know problem with the phone so far.

D750i is located here:
http://www.sonyericsson.com/s[....]5_7&zone=ps&lm=ps1_1&pid=10244

I installed it last night on my T-Mobile (UK) D750i and no problems. The K750i update will NOT work on the D750i so you cannot use it.

Also, if you change your theme, does your mobile jukebox icon retain the white background colour? Mine does :/ They didnt set the background colour to transparent...
Spoke to SE today and they replicated it and said they would email the development people to see if they can make a fix for it in the next firmware release.

You have to go to a local Service Center and ask very kindly, and maybe they will do it... But they don't have the right to do it actually

But last month my local Service Center changed a language on a k700i for a friend of mine

Hi guys. Has anyone debranded the vodafone K750i yet?

I updated mine (vodafone live! K750i) but it is still voda. However, I got an idea...

I noticed that in the software-data folder under the sony ericsson update service folder (C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Update Service\software-data) I have the following 2 files:

HL1_1250035-EU2-MR1_000000_0000_R1J002 (10,296,366 bytes) and
HL1_125953-VFE2-MR1_000000_0000_R1J002 (789,116 bytes)

now in the 2nd file, VFE = vodafone europe (i think). Can anyone who has an unbrabded k750i post the contents of his folder? I think the large file is the common firmware while the smaller file is the voda customisations. I guess if we exchange the voda customisation with the one for unbranded phones, we can unbrand it.

P.S. already tried deleting the VFE file and flashing it. Stops in the middle so i had to redo the update process :|

Please reply! and thanks!!!

If it aint broken, fix it till it is;)

If it has got vodafone icons, it's broken

Posted by Sebby
@ bart_bv

You can't unbrand with the SEUS. You'll have to wait until the third-party loggers (e.g. DaVinci) support this phone.

Posted by bart_bv
Why not? SEUS does reflash the phone, so if we can fool it into reflashing with an unbranded firmware then we're home free. It also does not hurt to try... The worst that can happen is for the update process to stop, which means restarting the update to revert.

Has anyone tried the above? i.e. exchanging the voda cusomisation file with an unbranded one? It would really help if someone posted the contents of the mentioned folder (software-data) from an unbranded update, and if the size of the larger file match, then a good soul might email me the smaller file so i try it out and report back

Posted by Sebby
@ bart_bv

Hmm, I wonder if it is possible. Perhaps swapping the file but giving it the same filename. I would think, though, that the SEUS is a little more clever than that.

Posted by bart_bv
Yeah, that's what i had in mind....

You never know until you try

Posted by Jaffro
Well i hadn't had any of the problems besides the shortcut reset when turning off the phone. Glad to say that is fixed with the update, which i must admit was hastle free thanks to shiato_storm's pointers on page 22 of this thread.

Took a picture and notice the double sound beep for focusing.

It wern't broke, but i still fixed it and it all seems fine so far

@bart_bv

My phone is unbranded. Here's the content of the folder:

HL1_125952-EU1-MR1_000000_0000_R1J002, 10.640.537 bytes

HL1_125953-EU4-MR1_000000_0000_R1J002, 1.350.651 bytes

EDIT: You can contact me at MSN, crb012@hotmail.com, if you want me to send the files or something

After the update I can use the button on my HBH-600 bluetooth headset to hang up, answear calls and more.

I was not able to do this with the old firmware

Posted by mastrmind
Mine is also unbranded. Here is what mine has:

HL1_125952-EU1-MR1_000000_0000_R1J002, 10,640,537 bytes

HL1_125953-EU3-MR1_000000_0000_R1J002, 1,282,639 bytes

I put them up at http://www.tc.umn.edu/~canf0015/se_firmware/

I also think it seems possible that as long as the main firmware is the same, that it should be possible to use a different customization file. I currently have a Europe_3 firmware from MyWorldPhone and would definitely like to get a different one so I can silent the annoying camera shutter.

Posted by gbrooks3
hehehe,

Watch out you dont screw up the EROM in new K750 phones. Also watch out for FOTA

Problem is that, your DCU-60 cables can utilize the FOTA part of flash meaning that you can only use that cable for Software Upgrade not decustomization. However, if the operator uses main firmware to customize the phone it is possible in theory. But decustomizing/Language changing with SEUS aint happening right now with these phones.

Posted by bart_bv
ok. Got the files. The large fil is not identical, so i revised my tactics
I restarted the update process in recovery, let it download the files, then swapped them with the unbranded files (after renaming like the previous ones...)

18% updated so far....

(cross fingers :|)

Posted by mastrmind
gbrooks3 -

I searched for FOTA and you are the only person I saw that has mentioned it. What is that? I realize that flashing the phone with an incorrect firmware might disable the phone, but I am guessing it would be similar to having a failed update, you could use recovery mode to flash the correct firmware back.

bart_bv -

Goodluck!

Let us know how it went

Posted by Xajel
mine also unbranded

Big file ( 10392KB ) : HL1_125952-EU1-MR1_000000_0000_R1J002
Small File ( 1247KB ) : HL1_125953-EMEA6-MR1_000000_0000_R1J002

I thought I can flash it as I replace these file with the want-to-put ones before the final update steps ( disconnect-turn off-wait 20 sec.-hold c and connect)... and if any error message appear I may try to rename files...

I don't think I'll try this one

am I the only one who still has crashes after update >.<

damn I hope it's the memory and not the phone but what is weird is it works great and then suddenly I leave the phone for a while and blam...once I go to the menu and open the viedos folder I get garbage text and if I check a different folder I get the white screen of death...

I did a service test during this and it says that the memory stick is connected but if I go to check external memory space it crashes too
0_o

does anyone else have a 1 GB sony msd pro (HIGH SPEED) out there? could that be the reason, as with the 64 mb supplied it doesn't crash, but I tried the 1 gb memory on my cam and it works fine

*insert head banging on wall smiley here*

It appears as though bart_bv has blown up his pc trying to hack his phone

Don't mess with SE

Posted by dietbrand
@ darky

Logic dictates that if the phone works flawless with the 64 stick but crashes with the 1gig stick than the interaction between the latter and the phone is to blame. Perhaps you could try another stick to make sure (lets say a 512 one).

Have you read through (at least) the last 5 pages of this thread? There are some tips on how to forcefully update the drivers (one method is to use the hardware manager in the system properties section.)

Posted by zubnut
@darky

I have a k750i o2 and have used a sony 1Gb Hi speed pro duo from the start and it has been fine.
You can get loads of albums on there even at 192kbps aac.
(I have also tried my san disk 512 pro duo and that's fine too)

I won't be bothering with the update tho as i have not had any crashes or problems with the fone yet at all (had it for 3 weeks now)
it has eu_2 by the way.

I didnt get an answer to my original question on page 8 - can anyone tell me if it is normal for this o2 branded k750 to be able to use voda contract sim cards as mine can - if it is normal can anyone confirm if that still works after the fw update?? if nto it's another reason for me not to bother updating.

slightly OT but does anyone know when the hpm-70 headset is coming - Emailed sony but they were fing useless.

Yes, have ready all 2 pages! lol
Still no joy, starting to think im really thick!

Posted by dietbrand
Uhhm This thread contains 26 pages. And as far as I can see it contains some usefull tips to get the drivers going. That's about as far as I can help, since i don't have a K570i YET! But really u should try looking in the device (hardware) manager when you plug in your (shut off) phone while holding 'c'. You should be able to (briefly) see an item appear (flash drive or something alike). Quickly right-click it and choose update driver, then point to where you unzipped the updated drivers.
After that follow the SE online guide to update your phone.

Good luck

also as im from the uk do i use the uk version of the update cause yesterday most were using global any difference between them??sorry to be a pain..think i have sorted out but when i unzip the file cant get it into a temp folder can i put it on the desk top??

@dietbrand
the manual says it supports upto 2 gb (some people said to whatever the msd capacities will become) but I doubt it as anything over 2gb will have to be formatted fat32 instead of fat16 (that's what the phone formats the stick to), and I bought a 1 gb I don't have a 512 mb one to try

@zubnut
thx it's good to know it's not a sony high speed msd issue I will try and replace my msd and see if it fixes the problem, although it works fine on the camera I guess the phone accesses it differently.

'if it is normal for this o2 branded k750 to be able to use voda contract sim cards as mine can - if it is normal can anyone confirm if that still works after the fw update?? if nto it's another reason for me not to bother updating.'

the firmware shouldn't affect it, but you might want to check and see if somebody else did it first just in case as you can't go back to previous firmware unless you take it to the shop, the only thing I thought was good from the firmware update was smoother video playback (you notice the difference) and faster game menu, aside from that the rest is cosmetics hence useless...(seriously who cares about what sound the autofocus makes )

HI, I have managed to flash the phone but i still have the vodafone branding. The versions i downloaded were HL1_1250035-EU2-MR1_000000_0000_R1J002 (big) and HL1_125953-VFE2-MR1_000000_0000_R1J002 (small). I tried to replace with eu1 and eu3 when it had finished downloading. Nearly f*cked the phone. Anyway managed to flash it back to vodafone. Anyone know how to get rid of vodafone?

Posted by darky
you can never get rid of vodaphone it's like the plague

Posted by thedoc
I have just update my k750 and at the end of updating when the indicator said 100% it poped up an error saying could not complete update.

I seems fine, and checks out against other peoples versions in the software info so hopefully all is ok. I hope no one else has this as I thought for a short wile a had a new desk ornament. I suppose what i am trying t say is if it says its gone wrong that messagemay be an error in itself so don't worry until its definately broken.

good luck

Posted by madmax9876
LOL i know! WHY DO THEY F*CK WITH PHONES ANYWAY?? Im leaving vodafone next time round, they really do annoy me. Any news from that guy bart who tried to only flash one file? I will try it in a bit. It wasn't easy flashing it back after i messed it up. It wouldn't even switch on! But i got it back!

O2 are the best! They leave the phone how SE left it!

Posted by thedoc
Have just noticed that the minimised media player icon has now changed to a film strip where previously was a cd (if already mentioned apologies)

Posted by hellsat
After upgrading my K750i I'm not able to use wap/internet/mms over gprs anymore. I've tried both upgrade methods, same result. Also did an un-install of the SEUS software, re-downloading the files. Tried several master resets...no luck. Irritating

Posted by rickster2kuk
Well after a hours worth of palava (didn't realise i had to download two usb drivers files, one of which wasn't on the UK k750i support site) got it to go and now i've got the new firmware.

Can't say i notice that much of the difference (i didn't have any problems before), the phone now displays 'silent mode' under the tune picture when you press silent, but thats about all so far - probably more minor changes that you won't really notice.

One thing that would be nice is it to read a bit faster from the duo card when viewing horizontally, when you first flick thru it takes a quite a while image by image, but after they are loaded its a lot faster (somebody tell me if a duo pro card would solve this).

Suppose any updates must be a good thing!

Subnote: 5 mins after typing this, i've notice that my GPRS no longer works, keep getting the message incorrect settings, communications error, hope SE sort this out soon and i've tried to download O2 settings and it still doesn't seem to work!

Just double checked its just the k750 thats messed up guess seus messed up our phones

Hi, just tried what bart said about removing vodafone firmware. That is trying to change the vodafone file when it has finished downloading. Oh well, anyone else know how to get rid of vodafone firmware.

Vodafone is like aids! no cure!
