When you lock at the Sim lock menu If the Icon is OPEN LOCK (like all the other should be) the the phone is unlocked... As to is the phone branded I think if the phone is branded it will say when you press <**< it should say if it is personalized or not... Another way to tell is the icon on the top right hand corner... On Vodafone the middle button will kick off vodafone life if it is branded...
Dont play with any codes in this part of the menu though...
I am pretty sure that there are codes to lock and unlock this and all the 5 represents is the number of tries for each...
I dont think besides SE and the Service providers no one else has this codes... But in theory they exist somewhere...

Just updated my unbranded K750i from R1A044 to R1N035. So far:
very slightly better video artifacts.
Slight improvment in low light noise for still pics.
Menu speed is clearly faster.
No bluetooth file transfer confirmations for a paired device.
Don't see any improvment in display color/contrast.
Signal indicator shows better reception, but for me is actually worse than before.
cursor position no longer blinks in alarm and timer.
Still the best SE handset I've had, really impressive phone.

for the last 8 days I tried to update my K750i from different location but no use. The screen shows updating device........ 0%
after 3 to 4 hours message will apperar "Error in communication with the device" and "Remove the battery and reisert it"
Then web page appear as follows:-
Error in communication with the device Make sure you have removed and reinserted the battery. Then try to start the device.
If your device shows an error message or does not start at all, click Recovery Mode If your device behaves normally, click Start over.
If the problem persists, please contact support.
In my PC - C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Update Service\software-data
two files are there 1. HL1_125952-EU-1-MR2_000000_0000_R1N035 and 2. HL1_125953-EMEA6-MR2_000000_0000_R1N035. So what was the problem is it possible to update without connecting the update site I mean from PC. pls help.

I would really like to update the firmware, but not via warranty-f*ck-up
through daVinci...sooooo... if anyone could tell me "Wait for Eplus" oder
"No! Don't wait - just try the master reset!" or something like that, I'd be grateful!
My phone crashes every so often... gives me the creeps. What good is the good cam quality if the damn thing crashes every 2 days and deletes stuff or whatever... you know the prob (screen goes white, flashes eternally, no reaction whatsoever...)

mwarner, please update your first post regarding java and bluetooth issue:
- Bluetooth doesn't start automatically from java applications anymore. You should enable BT manually before running BT Explorer, Bloover etc.

1. All my lock icons are unlocked.
2. Pressing <**>, both 'Network' and 'Network subset' have unlocked icons, and both have MNC length MNC2.
3. I have no icon in the top-right corner, only charge meter.
4. When I press the middle button above the joystick, I get the shortcut menu.
Therefore, my problem is that the handset appears to be totally unbranded. However, if that was the case, SEUS should give me R1N. Also, my CDA is 102338/68, which is listed in the first post on this thread as being UK Voda.
Does this mean that the phone has had its CDA set to UK Voda, but not had the customization applied? If so, does that mean that, if I do succeed in SEUSing the handset, then because of my CDA, I will end up with the Voda customizations?
Is this the same issue as was raised in this thread:

I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else on this site yet, but is there an issue with the Bluetooth icon not changing to show that it is connected/transmitting?? I have R1L still. If you aren't sure what I mean: if you switch on Bluetooth you get the icon at the top of the screen, and when it is sending/receiving it should change to include the two-way arrow to indicate this. Same as the K700i and all the other models.
Is it just me that this is happening to?

My mistake about he top right hand corner I meant the left....
on your main menu what icon do you have... Are there any Vodafone Icons of any type there?
If the answer is no then it would seem you have a non-software branded/not locked...
About your other question I recon the best thing is to drop a line to Vodafone and give them the details of your fone and find out what the posiible outcome will be....
Say if you want the phone unlocked/unbranded as you bought from them and dont want a branded phone if it turns up SEUS will in any case brand the phone against your will...
Thats what Id do....
This way you will enter the concerns in writing and these should give you some leverage should anything go wrong...

A good amount of devices will require a reset after a F/W update.
There is no reason why performing a settings reset on the K750i after such update woulnt benefit the device...
This as been mentioned several times troughout ESATO in various threads and it is sound advice...
remember to back up your phone B4 any major change or when using a reset...

Unfortunatly this loss is not of the branding or the sim locks...

The top-left icon in the main menu is the SE logo and a wavy sheet of paper, but when I move the cursor over it, the title bar says Vodafone Live! I do wonder whether I have a handset which is neither wholly branded nor unbranded.

That's what I've done, yes. They have stated that they have supplied an unlocked handset. I have replied saying I wasn't asking about SIM locks, but about customization, and telling them again that SEUS won't give me R1N.
I've also contacted SE, so we'll see if I get anywhere.

I just spoke to SE support in the UK...
The guy sayd to me that only unbranded and orage phones could update to the R1N035 that Vodafone and O2 have not sign in to the update...
I must say that this information is only true for 100% of UK flashed K750i's according to SE SUPPORT.
I have a hard time with this signing for an upgrade or not hardly seems to be fair of a service provider to whom which we use the branded phones and have well paid for them....
Leaving very little alternative than to use a de-branding and unlocking (why not) and make that choice for ourselfs...

O2 branded phone (CDA etc earlier in thread & I cant be bothered to find it) anyway - first lock up on this W27 R1L handset in 2 months - happened when I docked phone - screen went white for few minutes but recovered when I undocked phone. Maybe connected to problems with charging phone.
What I am asking though...is R1N really worth the effort? I have seen lots of fixes and new things broken by SE and a few people desperate to go back to R1L. I wonder since O2 & Voda have stalled R1N release.

IMO R1N is far better than RIL. I upgraded last week and havnt had a single crash unlike R1L which would crash 70% of the time when watchin videos. No other probs at all so far... improved video quality is nice too!

I've just had a bit of a issue with a R1N035 K750i and a HBH-660 BT 1.1 headset.
Basically when audio is transmitted to the headset I got about 5 seconds worth and then the audio cut out. The BT connection is still active, the call hasn't been dropped, and both devices have plenty of battery life.
Switching the call back to the phone continues the call.
Tried a number of BT 1.1 headsets and they all seem to cut out. Tried the same headsets against K750i's with older firmware and they work okay.
A selection of HBH-662 BT 1.2 headsets work with the R1N035 K750i...
So, it looks like R1N035 might have issues with BT 1.1 headsets. I'm going to test this later today with other headsets/K750i's... BTW, I did a master-reset on the R1N035 K750i and it made no difference...

Are you watchin full length decent quality films though? I watch at least 1 film a day whilst at work... it tended to crash if i went back through the menus too fast straight after watching a film or I would get back to the standby screen but when i lock the keypad it would reset itself! It hasnt happened since i got R1N so im happy! Maybe ur one of the lucky ones... i'd still go with R1N though, just for the higher quality video recording

I've been on R1N for a week now and I think it's bette than R1L.
I also use an HBH 662 and it's working fine. The only problem is that u can't use voice commands but I couldn't do that with any other f/w

The only problem on R1N so far is this;
When you move a file into another folder, when you get the list of which folder to move it into, it doesn't show up in alphabetical order.
I've put the "sort by" option to "by name" and all my folders & files are in alphabetical order, except when you move a file, it shows the folders randomly. No big deal but I like my stuff to be organised & neat.
Does anyone else have this?

Yeah. R1N is better than R1L, but using the original USB cable to transfer files between phone and PC seems less reliable in R1N than in R1L. The menu in R1N appears less smooth than in R1L as well.

that's it this is the last draw I don't care if they can make a phone that turns into a car my next phone will not be a sony ericsson, they're quality has been degrading t630 - k700 - k750 I owned those phones and each new phone seems to get worse than the last one, seriously I've never had so many problems with a phone (or any other electronic device before in my life), even my pc needs less maintinence than my phone and it can do so much more
sorry guys but after upgrading with every new firmware my phone just gets more bugs and I wouldn't have upgraded in the first place if it didn't keep crashing, to think after 4 months they can get the firmwae right, now I have a 2 mp camera phone with no camera, and which wouldn't accept more than 10 files at once, and since I am in friggin china (not hk
) I have no idea where a service center is (if any) I went to the place I bought the phone from it's the largest phone / operator supplier here and they told me that they had no idea the phones had firmware upgrades 
I'm seriously considering getting a new phone
since I have about half a dozen other sony products which work fine and I love dearly (cybershot / psp ...etc) then I guess the problems are from the Ericsson side

What have you done to try to fix it? e.g. reflash with SEUS, using DaVinci etc? I would be suprised if you cant recover the phone if it is a software (and not a hardware) issue!

I tried seus auto / recovery mode master reset more than 10 times everytime it gives me the error connection,
and even if I do get the camera working people are still haveing issues with file transfer ...etc, and seeing how sony takes a few months to release a new firmware I guess it's gonna be some time before they fix it
anybody out there have the seus files for the R1L Chinese version ?
I would dance at your wedding if you upload them for me
p.s. phone is unbranded and I have never used davinci or other 3'rd party stuff.

sir, i am from the philippines...i have upgraded my k750i to R1N035...i also did a master reset twice... once before and once after the upgrade...i lost games like puzzle slider and aero glider...the demo tour was also erased...my friend sent me a copy of the video of demo tour...i saved it in the phone's memory but it does not play when using the shortcut under the entertainment menu...can i still restore it?...also, my friend whose unit has EU_CL in the software info, upgraded his phone to R1N035....he had an error during the process and suddenly the unit was dead...we can not turn it on anymore...we brought it to sony ericsson philippines and they can not do anything about it because the board according to them was already corrupted...we brought it to another authorized service center and they said that a software upgrade may restore the phone...the said software is not available at this time they said....can you probably recommend something for us to restore his unit?...i updated mine using the same process and didn't encounter any errors...a day after that, we updated his...i felt so responsible for what happened...

I have an Orange contract K750I in the U.K. & I just upgraded it to the latest R1N035 firmware.
Problems noticed so far:
The software freezes for a couple of seconds if you are too quick moving the joystick through any of the options.
While transferring photos from the phones memory to my pc via the USB cable the phones screen has large columns of strange blue tinted bars appearing at random across the whole screen.
Looks like more bugs for Sony Ericsson to work out for the next firmware update then.
