Any word on the quality issues with the pictures and video? Seems like SE has layed the k750 on the shelfs, no new firmware for a long time now? It doesn't take months to increase some quality settings, it takes seconds...

Word!

I'm very disappointed with this as i hate the fact i've spent £££'s on this phone and to find out that they degraded the quality of the camera, it's just not on! I've complained several times but they don't seem to be doing anything about it.

Bloody useless, they need shooting whoever degraded the quality.

It does appear SE are taking their time in releasing another update. Let's just hope that this will result in a stable, bug-free FW.

However I must say that they are getting better and better at FW programming. I mean my T610 with R1 (R1C IIRC) was a mess. As with the K750 R1 is a very decent FW (setting aside the crashing nastiness of R1A)

will there ever be a new firmware....? *wishing mode*

Posted by numb
sure there will.

Posted by max_wedge
The camera in R1J/L is the same, but while the video is certainly worse than R1A I don't know if it has been conclusively established yet that the still camera is worse. If it is it's a fine line.

There is also currently a thread, started by numb, to discuss and compare photos between K750 and W800, it'd be great if peeps could start posting like mad to it, maybe we can get a definite answer. If W800 is better than peeps who want the better cam have the option to convert their K750's to W800:

you gotta be kidding right

this isn't a group of graduates in a garage somewhere selling homemade devices this is an international multi-billion dollar company,

....and they are laughing their asses off after reading
our posts here -_-

all phones have bugs, all manufacturers are guilty.

So why bash SE?

Posted by darky
I'm not bashing S.E. I prefer them over other manufacturers,

that doesn't mean they are acceptable though, when you pay 500+ $ for something you expect it to work

with the current technology all those employees and all the money and support we are handing over they should at least test there devices before they throw them out into the market,

not to mention listen to our feedback I have yet to see Sony, Nokia or any other mobile manufacture actually give it's customers what they want, they include something in a device but exclude it from the other just so they can gain more bucks off of us, ok sure go ahead do that but at least make a high end device that would tend to us hardcore mobile fanatics with the simple things we have grown to need and can't live without

Posted by max_wedge
I agree that it's slack of manufacturers, I just didn't think SE where any worse than others

The worst by far are windows 2003 mobiles, now there's a system that needs work

what the hell happened to this thread?! its called "K750 Firmware Overview" i intended to check it periodically to keep up to date with my phone, and its filled with opinions, whining, and speculation. 101 pages worth, what a waste.

Posted by numb
Good point

But, you really only need to read the very first post, as this is allways updated with the latest information on firmwares.

You dont need to read the 101 following pages of debate

Posted by nog00der
i understand that, but if there is any good information mixed in, im just not gonna bother lookin fro it.

it is somewhat ironic, though, that your entire contribution to the esato forums (2 posts) are two posts in a thread complaining that people have ruined the thread by complaining and speculating.

Maibe somebody should write an email to SE to anounce them of the camera problem. Sometimes "little" things slip away in big houses

Posted by numb
Many people has allready sent emails informing SE of this, more than once. Everyone just receive a standard reply saying absolutely nothing.

i updated my k750i on orange last night
to
R1L002
and to be honest i cant see any difference
the orange branding is still there on the menu screen
but thats not a problem for me.
and i can still get the silent shutter noise when i take pictures!!

Actually, most of the debate is relevant to K750 firmware. I'm enjoying it personally.

Very interesting.

@max_wedge
I agree - at least I know that it isn't just me or my handset and that it is a problem with the FW.

@Numb
I agree with you - I have phoned SE and mailed them about the camera (and other issues) and receive flat denials from them - even though I myself have already told SE about the camera issue.

@All
We all need to report the issues and expect the same dumb answer but at least the message will eventually get through. Look what happened with R1A when the phone was first launched. All the UK networks withdrew the phone until the crashing bug was sorted. I think the best route to getting a new FW is to report bugs to SE and to your network. If you don't then don't expect a fix soon.

i updated mine a few days ago, and it seems many of the crashes i consumed last time disappeared

I managed to rattle a firmware developer @ Ericsson (yes, the firmware is developed by Ericsson & not SE) regarding a Bluetooth issue (kept dropping connection) and he has taken note of that issue...

Mind you, I've in charge of implementing some 2,500 K750i phones amongst the company I work for. And each one is paired to a HBH-662 BT headset... So SE did take some notice...

I'm getting so anxious waiting for the next firmware to be released for the K750i. I guess I shouldn't be though. I just hope the wait will be rewarded with hard work from the Ericson team!

i second this thought... lol...

Well, if the previous 3 months period is a good guide rule to go by, dont expect new firmware until late September..

Yes please do have a word with them about the Camera software, get it back 3.8 as it was when its brand new, R1L Camera software sucks, what a disapointment.

Hi, i got my new k750i yesterday on orange pay as you go and i am trying to update my firmware but when i try the 'Sony Ericsson Update Service' program jus stays on "Initialising device...Please wait..." in a box for ages. It has been on that same message for 15minutes and it is not crashed because i can move the boxes around. Any suggestions are appriciated. Thanks

Hey guys a quick question for a quick reply.

I started downloading music on my k750, but I don't add the music through the File Manager that was on the k750 CD but throught the new Drive that appears as G for me, which is the memory stick. First of all I hope it won't harm the phone .. and secondly if I make folders on the Memory Stick will they show up on the phone as well, because I want to make a different folder for my Music MP3 files and my MP3 Ringtones ... let me know if thats possible and what would be the best way to do it.

Thanks a bunch.

oh dear CoolMeEddy.

What a mess you're in.

Right follow these quick instructions and you might save your phone, your memory card and your life.

1) Climb to the top of the nearest block of flats (a multi storey car park will also work)

2) Shout help in your loudest voice for around 20 minutes

3) If anyone approaches crawl into a ball and pretend you're a hedgehog

4) Wait for some nice men in white jackets to arrive in their 'special' taxi

5) They should take you to your new 'lab' which should be a nice warm comfy padded room where you can do your crazy experiments without the fear of hurting anyone around you

6) Good luck

Posted by keany
well CoolMeEddy.. i have been doing that when i got the phone..it is ok to do that as the memory stick ack as a storage when you hook it to the comp. Just remember to use the safely remove hardware icon in your task bar in your comp when unattaching your phone.
Peace out..

@happycheesecake

You really deserve a cheesecake! Thankyou for your excellent and long awaited info about new K750 firmware. Really looking forward to this upgrade.

Posted by etaab
@ happycheesecake - sorry to sound so sceptical, but i'll believe it when i see it.

Although what you've said sounds great news, i wont believe it until the firmware is released and its on my phone. I just hope that what you're saying is true, and you're simply not just pulling our leg.

EDIT: Pulled this one too...

jackie, try using a different USB port. on my Acer notebook, that has three USB ports, the SEUS only works on one. i have not bothered to find out the technical explanation for this, since i know which port it will work.

cheers.

Posted by O2 K750i
Now the question that those of us watching the box last night may have is...drum roll...What did the cheesecake have to say but doesn't want to say anymore? What about the new FW?

The explanation for this is that each USB port has its own ID, and every usb device that gets installed are "connected" to that specific USB ID. If you move a USB device to a different USB port it needs to reinstall the drivers. If for instance you have a USB printer installed you will see under properties that its perhaps installed on USB0, if you connect the printer to a different USB port it will install a second printer on USB1, and you will now have 2 printers if you look under printers. If you move your USB mouse to a different USB port it will reinstall drivers for that etc. etc.
Usually reinstallation of the drivers will be an automatic process, but some devicedrivers require a litle manuel help to reinstall properly.

great explanation numb! appreciate that

Yeah, I want to know too.

I pulled the postings because I didn't want to get anyone's hopes up. I'll repost the info once I've got confirmation...

Posted by jackie89
Hi, thanks for the explanation and it workeed, but now when i am up to the bit there you have to hold down "c" and connect the usb cable to the phone, an error comes up on the pc saying "error in communication"? Has anyone got any suggestions? Thanks

Posted by n3x
Sounds like you need to install the USB driver.

http://www.sonyericsson.com/d[....]_Update_Service_USB_driver.zip

Hope this helps

Posted by jackie89
thanks for your reply, but what am i meant to do with these drivers? When i connect the phone, the box that is meant to appear 5 times does not appear at all?

Posted by n3x
Installation instructions

1. Download the zip file to your computer. Remember where you put it.
2. Unzip the file to a temporary folder.
3. Turn off your phone.
4. Connect the USB cable to the PC but not to the phone.
5. Hold down the 'c'-key and connect your phone to the USB cable.
6. This will start the Windows Found New hardware wizard that will be used during the installation.
7. Follow the instructions in the wizard; choose to "Install from a list ..", then press "Next".
8. Browse to the temporary folder created under step 2 above to point to the driver to install, then press "Next".
9. When the driver is installed, press "Finish".

You can now use Update Service to update your phone's software via the USB cable.

Why do SE make it so hard to find and install this bloody usb driver?

Posted by jackie89
is there a differnece between the usb driver and the update service usb driver? because i think i have alredy installed the update service one.

Posted by n3x
well yeah if you've already gone through those instructions u should have already installed it and theres no reason it shouldnt work!

Posted by mwarner
The Update Service Driver is separate to the standard USB driver. You will need it to use SEUS. As always, see the first post for additional details.
