whoaa....
why would you want to flash a k750i with k700 firmware..looks like youre gonna have to take it to an se centre ( i guess warranty would be void now) or to a 3rd party which can reflash it with k750 firmware

Posted by woot
did someone follow "flash k700 to k750" thread?

Posted by korbindallis
is vdo quality solved on the new firmware
or its still the same
i am running the orignal firmware and its working great only one issue when making a movie the phone records for only 10 minutes and stops.
any one having that problem

not thinking to update unless the vdo quality issue is solved
i am very happy with this phone i love it loads

do you have an option to set the video recording mode to high quality video? set it to record in high quality mode.

Posted by pandthu
hmm why use a phone if u dont know what its functions are

k750i can record video upto ur memory lasts

Posted by pjoyce
I wasnīt sure if I should start a new thread or not...

I have just got my K750i and although it has the build number 05KW28 it came with R1A044. When connecting to my PC via Bluetooth the other day the phone seemed to lock twice. Then this morning I tried to send an SMS to the maximum 20 contacts to announce my new number and the screen took a while to update and at one point some text overlapped another window/text.

I decided to call the SE Call Center here in Germany and was given two places where I can it upgraded. I asked them what the latest firmware version was and I was told R1N005. So, it seems that if you go to a service center they have a version newer than via SEUS.

I will be away for 2wks so will get it done when I come back.

My camera has not worked at all since upgrading R1L002 - I flashed it with DaVinci software and reflashed it twice on SE.

Is there anyone else out there with the same problem and are just waiting on SE to fix it in the next release

I hope this is not a HW problem? as I got the phone on Ebay, so cnat return it

Posted by riksox
Hope SE release a new FW soon, as my phone crashed two times already in two weeks. Not bad compared to the t310, but still.

Another fob off from Sony Ericsson...

Subject: Firmware Upgrade

Sir/Madam,

Despite my previous attempts to ascertain whether a newer firmware OTHER than R1L002 is planned for release to restore the bitrate performance of the video recording function of my K750i to that of the R1A044, all I have received from yourselves are vague or standardised response emails.

I understand that due to your confidentiality policies regarding software update releases, you are not prepared to disclose exact release dates, so all I am asking is, can you tell me if there is a newer firmware planned for release at some point and if the said problem with the video will be addressed.

I look forward to your response

Alex M******

@alex

Same here - SE replies are so pathetic I couldn't be bothered to post their reply here mate - not a criticism of you or this forum. I have yet to get SE to accept they have botched up on any problem I mail them.

Still at least they are sorry, for something.

With 203,751 views of this thread, I just feel that the more people who post on this thread about problems that they have with the firmware and the more people who email and badger SE will, at the end of the day go some way towards making them sit up and realise that there are a great many people out there VERY unhappy with the HUGE drop in the video recording performance and other issues and that they need to sort this out at their earliest opportunity.

I'm sure there are many people with the K750i who, like me, are waiting day after day for a firmware upgrade to sort out the problems which ruin an otherwise excellent phone.

I will wait and keep waiting, but I think it does no harm to post on here about firmware issues and at the end of the day, it might even do some good.. who knows!

Posted by mwarner
Generally speaking SE release a new firmware at a frequency somewhere between every few days (if the previous firmware contains serious bugs) and up to 3 months (if the previous firmware was relatively stable).

It is approaching 2 months since R2L was released, which is a pretty stable firmware despite it's flaws. From past records I would imagine a new firmware to be released some time in August.

Of course, I am just inferring this from the frequency of firmware releases from previous SE phones, so don't take my prediction as gospel!

Posted by etaab
@ mwarner, you're observations are quite true.

I've always believed SE tended to release new firmware every 3 months or so, unless they need to fix a major bug then they release new firmware much sooner.

Personally i cannot wait for the next firmware release, in the hope that they will restore the K750i's original video capture quality. Everything else on the phone im happy witgh, except maybe i wish they'd speed up browsing pictures you've taken in 2mp.

Posted by thelight
mickg007: my camera disappeared in a similar way and it WAS a hw problem. I took it to my local service centre and they got it repaired for me. As the phone obviously isnt over a year old they should just take it and repair it without any proof of purchase.

Posted by Phantasm4489
My camera has stopped working twice so far and I've fixed it myself by taking my phone apart and pushing home the connector (first time at the mainboard end and second time at the camera end).

SE Support told me it was a firmware issue and they would be releasing a fix for this imminently over a month ago

Good job it wasnt or i'd still be waiting

Posted by max_wedge
@mickg007, fyi, I just updated to R1L002, no problems with the cam.

Posted by O2 K750i
@Phantasm4489

My mate had a phone from Orange which after 1 day would only power up to say invalid configuration. The camera status in the service menu was missing indicating the connector to the camera had become dislodged. I dont think there is a software problem.

Posted by JT
Well im confused now.

I have a wk20 phone with the R1A044

Should I upgrade to the new one which is R1L002 I think?

My phone works perfectly on the R1A044 apart from slow games and apps menu. Also I would like better sound quality so is it worth it to update or should I stay witht the original?

Thanks

Posted by jesspadua
i don't have any problem too, with my new R1L002! all functions are smoother and faster! i'm again planning to update to a w800i firmware. others already did, and said it's COOL!

Posted by max_wedge
@007 k750, depends. Some would say if it ain't broke don't fix it. Also the version you on has better video quality than R1J and R1L, so maybe wait for now.

I was on R1J anyway, so I updated.

If you do update, make sure if you use a laptop it is on power or fully charged, and follow EVERY instruction, read twice, and make sure you are doing it to the letter. If it goes wrong, you could be in for a visit to the service centre.

You can't really damage the hardware though...

Posted by Psykotik
I flashed to R1L about 3 weeks ago, and my handset has been working fine, but yesterday I found that I cannot load the camera up at all. I'm not too happy to say the least.

Posted by Hajaz
chances are you need to open it up and reconnect the connetcor.
i dont think cases of cameras breaking down are software related

Posted by Psykotik
I'll have a squizz in a minute, have a few Torx drivers somewhere

On a seperate note, I can't seem to install the Update software on my rig, it just stays at the "Installing" screen. You think it might be scanning the hardware (K750 hardware that is) and coming up that the camera is disconnected, that's why it's hanging?

Posted by shab_sadi
sorry if i'm in the wrong place but i'm new to this. does anybody know how to master reset a s700i?

Posted by stephen_doc
I got a k750 a few months ago. Was workin fine. I then upgraded to R1L about a month ago and again no problems. This week though it has standby crashed bout ten times. Im not too happy and not sure what to do.

Posted by O2 K750i
@stephen_doc

did you change the theme? - is it approved?

Any other settings changed?

Posted by max_wedge
it may be that this camera connector is a problem with some K750's. Atleast that's a workable problem - anything worse is likely to be a mainboard replacement.

Or it may be a furphy. There may also be a standby crashing problem with R1L (although it apparently fixes some of those crashing problems).

@shab_sadi

Check out this

Posted by stephen_doc
Why is there a known problem with themes

Posted by O2 K750i
@stephen_doc

If the theme is not developed for your handset then you may have problems - I had exactly this with my K500i using a theme for the K700i.

Screen resolution, colours, graphics and processing etc may be different.

The camera connector was incdeed disconnected, I had to take the entire bloody thing apart to get at the bugger. Ah well, at least I know how to do it now , got me a silver housing coming soon

I updated my one day old K750 online 8 hours after purchase. Being the first time i've used the online update service, I was a little nervous, but made sure all my bases were covered and followed every instruction to the letter.

I'm pleased to say it worked perfectly apart from a couple of little issues.

First the good:

1. Updated software from R1J002 to R1L002.
2. mediaplayer seems louder and clearer than R1J
3. Task button now clears screensaver (I seem to remember it didn't on R1J)
4. I had a problem on the previous software with contacts synchronising - it would only work from phone to pc, not the other way. This is now fixed (I tried a master reset before updating, but that didn't help, so decided to go the full hog and update).
5. Menu smoother
6. Saving photo to memory stick is heaps quicker
7. There is a dedicated mp3 folder created on the memory stick
8. The auto focus beep is a lot quieter
9. And the phone seems more stable than it was under R1J
10. And just found in this post by @AntonyScerri, the Camera shutter is muteable on EU_1 firmware only (not EU_3):
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=95791&start=120

The Bad:

the memory stick was in the phone when I updated (SE didn't say anything about removing it). After the update the memory stick was unable to be read by the phone (although the mass storage driver in windows could read it fine) and had to be formatted before it could be used again by the phone.

Of course the Optus branding remains untouched. The online update doesn't touch the customisation file - I knew this anyway so wasn't disappointed

over the last 5 days the phone is still working fine (used so far: bluetooth, cable, calling, sms, camera (phew!), mediaplayer, menu)

Posted by Psykotik
When I get my silver cover, I'll take some pics of disassembly and reassembly, you will need a plastic shell removal tool or a really blunt, thin knife, a tiny cross head screw driver (for removing the camera cover) adna Torx T6 screwdriver.

I have read this post very carefully, and i can't believe Ericsson expects it's customers to complete the 'final evaluation and testing' phase on their products! It's siimply unacceptable.

My K750i (R1L002) will not maintain a bluetooth relationship with any of 5 headset's i've tried it with, 4 of which are SE products! Even the simplest testing at the production level would have revealed this issue, so why the hell do i have to get lumbered with it?

I have tried the update service but it fails, providing the following message "Currently no service for devices belonging to your operator".

My phone was purchased "SIM free", and i am told by the UK support centre that there is a bug in the web update service preventing it from updating SIM Free phones.

Great!

I have bought Ericsson phones continuously for the past 10 years, but i'm really thinking twice about what i buy next!

Follow the link to complete the SE online customer satisfaction survey. The more of us who fill in exactly what you think (good or bad) the better SE will understand our feelings...

this is a super nice idea -- but it looks like the links (at least the one for the k750i) are country-specific (i got norway, despite having visited the site previously and setting my country of origin as (puke) france).

i was told by SE that the firmwares available are segregated on country (as well as imei-cda pairs) for whatever transmogrified rationale.. seems a bit unwieldy to have a link on your page for every country though (as well as somewhat redundant to just going to se's site and picking the country yourself)

I think I've found a bug in R1L ...

* Connect a Bluetooth headset, and enable voice dialing; phone should be in "Port. Handfree" profile.
* Put phone in silent mode (hold down # key) Screen should show "Profile updated"
* Press button on headset, and wait for "Please say the name after the tone" prompt on the phone.
* Say nothing, and watch what the phone does...

Tried this with three different K750i's, and two different headsets (HBH-662 & HBH-660)

All do the same thing - the phone crashes with a white screen & reboots. If the phone / profile combination isn't in silent mode, it works fine.

Problem confirmed with HBH-600 - not every time (one out of three tries).
