Is anyone else having problems upgrading the SEUS software? My previous version was v1.18, everytime I try to upgrade to v.1.19 it simply gets stuck on the last part of the installation. It won't even let me uninstall the previous version now either, and insists on having the most recent version before it takes you on to the actual firmware upgrade process.
Posted by staiano
@ leerichards, I just update my SEUS software yesterday when I upgraded to R1L and had no problems doing it...
Posted by O2 K750i
Still got bluetooth problems on R1L. Used headset for a call. Ended call. 10 minutes later made another call by dialing from phone - sound comes out of phone not headset even though phone profile is In Car.
Headset: O2 Blue

My R1J just reset on me so I updated to R1L, no problems installing the .19 updated. I just deleted the .18 before I downloaded the newer one.

I have R1D instead for the ITP.
I found out that the speaker is still pretty low and the earphone is quite low. Each time when I received a call, I have to adjust the volumn to the highest, yes full bar. I wonder if it is still software problem.
Also, I found out that I can't assign ringtone to each profile, like the K700i does.
And I just got my phone today and I tried 2 pictures, and I am not sure if my phone takes great picture. Take a look at this pic:

Thanks a lot

@ nokiadingding - thats a pretty poor example.
Go outside, take picture on Fine quality of say, your garden and show us that.
Indoor pictures never turn out very well IMO.
Posted by Rob_B
i personally did a comparison of the fine/normal settings with pics taken outside & i preferred the normal ones (plus they're half the filesize!!!) indoor pics are never great but better than most other phones i've used!

At least they are addressing the problem, slow I agree but they are trying. Too many times other manufacturers only address these problem in future phones or future builds of the phone.

looks like wrong whitebalance atleast in some of them
Is it set on automatic or did you set it manually ?

All automatic!

If you're outdoors set it to daylight, unless its night time or a rather dull day. On dull days, use the cloudy setting.
They're better pictures than your previous however.

Mine doesnt seem to have a problem

You made that pictures with your SE...
You have a strange resolution... I don't think that one is possible with the k750...
Posted by numb
True, that resolution is not possible with the K750, but the pictures are taken with one, they have simply just been cropped/resized afterwards.
Posted by DynaMight
yeah should had said, I resized to 1024x768 (because it's more internet friendly) the added a small boarder.
I messed about with the compression too thats why ones alot bigger than the other.

Anyone experiencing bluetooth connection problems with headsets (HBH-200 and HBH-600). The connection is dropping all of a sudden. My F/W version is R1L002. I had the same problems with all previous F/W versions.
Posted by O2 K750i
Yes - problems with O2 Blue headset
AND
I cannot see the Ringtones on the phone via USB - I can see the Memory card. So to copy Ringtones off the phone to PC I have to copy to mem card first. This used to work on R1A.
FW - R1L

Its really bad that SE is taking so much of time to revert back a good firmware..
Disappointed.. Tho not exactly for the problems that i get in my handset but for others too..Many r just having headaches here with just due to bad firmware..

I have the EU_3 firmware. Is there a way you can specify EU_1 when downloading at SEUS?
Thanks
Posted by rambalu80
@ fonebone
Unfortunately, you cannot specify what you want. SEUS will check the CDA and automatically install the updated version of the existing customization. However, if you are keen changing the customization, you can try http://www.davinciteam.com/.

DynaMight
Looks like some noise reducing filters applied too. Or it was changed in R1L firmware? Blurred background looks just unreal for this phone
Posted by mara
.. and i cant dl new firmware - sesu site gives me r1j evry time i try.
More than that - i uploaded r1L in service centre, and after that i tried the site- it uploaded the R1J to my phone OVER R1L =)

As it happens I think SE are doing a pretty reasonable job.
They have issued a number of updates to the phone which has only been on the market here in the UK since May 23rd. So while it's true they dropped the ball a couple of times with firmware that didn't really solve the problems or which created new ones, it is certainly not for want of trying.
I'm quite sure that the problems lie with putting out phones before they are ready in order to stay ahead of the market. The K750i/W800 is probably the last decent phone they will knock out before everyone starts migrating wholesale to 3G. They need to hit the walkman market before the Nokia N91 (with hard drive) hits the shelves.
This might have been foolishly fast in hindsight of course.

They only released R1J002 which broke GPRS and videorecordingquality then had to release R1L002 to fix the GPRS issue only.
I wouldent go as far as calling that a number of updates.
Basically they only released one update R1J002, which was very poor because it broke basic phonefunctinallity ie GPRS, and thus had to release a quick fix R1L002 which hardly qualifies as an update, its simply a quick fix to rectifiy something they broke in R1J002, it doesnt update anything else.
In short, theyve only released one official update (with issues) since launch may 23rd, and considering the number of users experiensing many different issues, I still find that a litle to poor.

Actually for me and a number of other users R1J/R1L fixed far more issues than it has broken or not fixed. The GPRS issues with R1J only affected some users - others like myself were fine.
As for the video recording bit rate issues with R1J/R1L personally I couldn't care less - its not a feature I'm likely to use in a hurry and prefer to have a phone which doesn't lock up/reboot and has a more stable bluetooth implementation thanks.
I would also imagine from SE's point of view the video bit rate issue is pretty low priority to them in the grand scheme of things.
IMO Ithink SE are doing a very good job - they have been the first handset manufacturer to make their handset's firmware easily user updateable, which in itself is a huge step forward in itself over Nokia et al.
Other manufacturers as has been mentioned already don't even bother with firmware updates they just release a new incarnation of the handset to fix it.
Also bear in mind the level of testing they need to do with each firmware release due to all the operator customisations - its only been 2 weeks since the general release of R1L so I think its reasonable to be patient enough to wait a while longer for fixes to your issues.
Posted by numb
The GPRS issue affected everyone that hadnt allready set up their GPRS before updating, not just specific networks or users, If you had sucessfully setup your GPRS prior to updating you would have no problems, unless you deleted them and tried to set them up again.
There are other issues than the videobitrate, this was only an example. People are still experiensing chrasches and BT issues on R1L002, I know the only 3 chrashes I have had so far has been on the R1L002 firmware. Others are having problems with camera suddenly not working for no apparent reason.
And Im not talking about S//E's general idea of supplying firmwares and the possibility to update. Beleive me I am a hughe fan of S//E and the phones and services they supply, but never the less, this time they were to quick to release a phone with unfinished firmware.
Thats ok, I can support that in order to get the phone to the market. But when you do deside to do that, you are then even more obligated to follow up by quickly sorting out the issues and release stable firmwares. If you dont you will lose the faith from your customers.
I am aware of the work involved and the testing needed, as I work with these matters myself, but thats no excuse, thats simply a matter of assigning enough ressources.
This time around S//E has been a dissapointment to me in this area.
Not a big dissapointment, but still, a dissapointment.

With Davinci you can change the CDA number wich causes the eu... label, look up the cda numbers of eu1 and you will have no shutter sound.

This isn't true - it affected GPRS for many people who had already got it set up, myself included.
Posted by Dextermike
I updated to R1L this w-e. It fixes the GPRS problem which I had, but u can feel it's much slower than R1J, which btw was faster than R1A...
Hope the new f/w will be released soon...

Oh well, that doesnt really make it any better, but just verifies my statement that it did not only affect certain users. On most networks it worked if you had set up the GPRS prior to updating, but I agree on some like the O2 network, it didnt.

Well I actually had no GPRS issues with R1J (mines a SIM free handset on Orange UK) - I was able to setup and delete data accounts (including my Tomtom Go setting up its own account too) without any problems - although I didn't ever delete all of them at once, but then to be honest I haven't actually had many of the reported issues with the handset from day one (apart from very iffy bluetooth that didn't - and still doesn't want to work with some headsets and things like the new Tomtom Go 500/700 units in handsfree).
And lets not forget that for every one person who has an issue who posts here, there are probably five other users other there who are perfectly content.
If most of these issues aren't cleared up within the next couple of months I'll be inclined to agree with you and be pretty upset with SE but I think its only fair to give them a "reasonable" chance to fix them - afterall most of the current issues with the K750i will probably also afllict the W800i too so I have no doubt they are probably working pretty hard on it.
I still think there are manufacturing quality issues now that SE appears to have moved production to China - there definitely appear to be a large number of duff ones out there that SE at the moment is struggling to fix via software alone - with a lot of the original reboot issues the cure seemed to be a handset swap.
The thing that really bothers me is the inconsistency of it all - as a software developer by trade, given apparently identical hardware running apparently identical software you'd certainly expect some consistency to the problems wouldn't you (its a shame these phones don't have some sort of event/error log which could be passed to SE for analysys
Posted by numb
yes, an event/error log would indead be great

Hi all,
I have seen some posting about emailing SE customer support to report bugs/suggestions.
Where can we send the email to?
Thanks
Posted by staiano
Got to sonyericsson.com, select your location, click support then contact us. Or if you're from the UK go here http://www.sonyericsson.com/s[....]&ver=4000&template=ps1&zone=ps and then click contact us.
Enter in your info and all your problems. SE can only work on the issues we tell them about.

I just read on SEUS :
Note! We recommend using this service with a broadband connection even though it is possible to use a modem connection(preferrably 56 kbps).
I have 56k, has anyone else with 56k updated their firmware successfully? I know it says its "possible" but it still makes me doubtful
I don't even think I'm gonna update it yet actually. I have R1A which seems to be fine apart from the occasional freeze when I'm doing processor-demmanding things.
Posted by numb
Theres no problem updating from a 56k connection, it just takes longer time to donwload the updatingsoftware and the update to begin with.
The update itself is done "offline", first it downloads the needed software and updates, and only then does it update from the locally stored files. This is to prevent any problems due to loss of connection or slow connection.
The broadband advice is simply because the filesizes that needs to be downloaded initially are rather big.
Posted by CaRMaN
Ok, thanks for the info.
Do you have any idea of the sizes of the files? Just so I know roughly how long it will take to download them.
Posted by numb
the updatesoftware is around 11.5mb and the updatefile is around 10mb
Posted by tamir
I personally do not recommend it as you know the 56kb connection might go off anytime and ruin your mobile for you
Posted by Itanium
@tamir, undestand and read carefully before you post
As mentioned, actual update doesnt start until the downloading is complete. So even if the download fails for whatever reason, no harm is done to the phone. You ll just have a working phone which is just not updated.

sorry my mistake as i did not sleep for 50 hours i think i will go to bed
