Well I updated both my W910i and C902 today. I say update, but the W910i was just re-installing its current firmware really, and it seems less laggy than it was. But my C902 is now running on the very latest firmware which seems quicker over all.

Posted by yea g
hmm... for some reason SEUS wants to rebrand my k610

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Maybe you didn't fully flash it.

Posted by yea g
im sure I did it comes up in xs++
18:03:53| Profiling SEMC phone...

and in SEUS it says:

notice how they both metion vfe live 2

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Yeah but did you change your CDA or whatever? I'm no flashing expert lol.

Posted by yea g
dunno i just wont be using SEUS anytime soon tho

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Yeah true. I think there are several parts of the software that need to be changed when you flash it. And I think that if you don't change the CDA, then it still thinks its a Vodafone Live phone, so SEUS will give it the Vodafone firmware!

Posted by carkitter
I tried updating today, it took ages and I don't think it worked. No negative impact on the phone though.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
What do you mean, you don't think it worked? If it didn't work, then surely you'd know it for sure!

Posted by carkitter
Well I just didn't get any sort of response so I wasn't sure if it was a connectivity problem, me not following proceedure of slow Uni internet. It seems to be the latter, because I have connected the V800 as a BT Modem and it is now updating fine with a new firmware version surprisingly enough.

I was prompted to try this again because the V640i stopped working as a USB modem completely while the BT modem function is on and off all the time. I've noticed that MPE when connected via BT connects and disconnects every couple of minutes.

Posted by carkitter
So far the update is not recommended. BT Modem is still unstable and Toolbar shortcuts can't reach some previously accessable menus.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Really?! That's craaaaap! SE!

I feel bad for suggesting you try an update now... Sorry mate.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Hey mateys, Vodafone store update:

Not bad!

Posted by yea g
lol I see you changed your sig aswell

Posted by carkitter
Hahaha!

I was always gonna update sometime anyway as I can't afford the V640i to go away for another 2 weeks and come back munted again.

I went to a local Voda store today and they had W350, W980, C702 and C902 dummies on display plus all of them in stock except the W980 which arrives next month 'around $999'.

Called in to Expert Infotech today and picked up a genuine Microsoft BT Laser Mouse at long last!

Posted by yea g
hmm.. any good?
I was going to get a logitech G5 or G9 when i have the money to spend but im still considering my options

Nice, so they've finally arrived. They did a better job of getting them here than they did with the K850i and W910i though! And a lot better than the W960i which despite what shopkeepers and the SE website said, never arrived! Are you still planning on getting yourself a W980, carkitter? If so, where from? Not a Vodafone I assume...

On the subject of computer mice, I've gotten so used to using the touch pad thing on my laptop that I find mice weird to use. I do all my photoshopping and everything with the touch pad. Easy.

Posted by yea g
right now im using a pre windows xp hp optical mouse lol

Posted by carkitter
I was surpised at how small the W980 is - it's alot smaller than the V800.
$999 will be way to much, I'd rather go for a $795 TradeMe special... though ATM I'm quite keen on a phone with wifi to connect to the Uni network. For $799 I can get a N95 from Dick Smith Electronics while for $699 I can get an iPhone on a $40 per month contract saving me about $80 per month on my current contract. As such, you can see the W980 is up against it despite being the best looking.

On Monday I'll be taking my V640i in for servicing to get the Modem function fixed. It hasn't worked consistantly from with BT and now the USB function has packed up too.

This message comes to you courtesy of the Letter V and the numbers 8, 0 and 0.

This mouse is a little ripper! It connects automatically by BT and works great. I'm a big TouchPad fan too but the Left Click button on my Laptop is getting a bit temperamental and the mouse adds a scroll wheel which is really useful. It also comes with a very nice M$ labelled carry case too.

hey muhammed oli got someone for our users list: ibewaffle
I already pmed him to tell him about this thread

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Nice mouse carkitter. It looks very cool. Futuristic and all that.

@yea g: I tend to add someone once they look like they might stick around, cause there's not much point if they make 2 posts then bugger off! We'll wait and see if they decide Esato is homely enough.

Posted by carkitter
@yea g

Pretty fancy high end mice there. I went for a BT mouse a) because I like all things wireless and b) so that I don't have a device monopolising one of my 3 precious USB ports. Mine cost $48 +GST

Posted by yea g
yea my friend has a G5. they are awesome to play counter strike with cause they have customisable sensitvity and weight. and the G9has customisable colour lights on it

and I dont care about usb ports my motherboard has 4 on the back and four usb headers for front panel and I have a usb hub

I can testify that the G9 is an awesome mouse, though it took some getting used to after changing from a Microsoft Habu (Awesome as well - but unfortunately it developed a problem with the cable connection that meant it dropped out all the time. I got a credit from Dick Smith as they are no longer stocked and paid my mate $1 more than I paid for the Habu to get the G9 - hooray for wholesale prices!)

I have long stayed away from Logitech mice due to the size of my hands (Large...) but the G9 caters for this by offering an XL cover for the mouse

Posted by frankthetank
@ Yea G

If you search Pricespy.co.nz you'll find that you can get a G5 for $77 or a G9 for $104

Posted by yea g
Hey thanks I was going to do that if I remembered but knowing my memory I would have forgotten.

Posted by yea g
I just heard on the radio that the rehanna and chris brown concert is sponsored by sony ericsson walkman

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Haha. Wow they really picked a great concert to sponsor!

[/sarcasm]

Seriously though, who is SE NZ's marketing manager? They are awful at their job.

Posted by yea g
well I really dont think Sony Ericsson really give a shit about NZ cause its quite small and anyway vodafone advertises enough SE phones already, so theres not much point

Actually, I thought that was a good move. I like Rihanna's music and don't mind Chris Brown.

Having just bought Ministry of Sound's 'Anthems' on Friday, I'm now eyeing up Rihanna's 'Good girl gone bad'.

Posted by yea g
I guess it depends on whether you like new music or old music

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Well I like new music, but mostly indie rock and a bit of electronic and new wave, so probably a lot of stuff you haven't heard of, and mostly stuff that doesn't play on the radio.

So yeah, not a fan of RnB. I guess SE sponsoring it is a good start, but most of the crowd that's into that kind of music are probably teens that think Telecom is the greatest network on earth because it has $10 text...

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
BTW: Don't go see The Forbidden Kingdom.

Posted by carkitter
Well I like a bit of everything - My CD collection includes Mario Lanza, Audioslave and Culture Beat... I'm mostly into Modern Rock and Dance/Electronica hence Rihanna appeals, especially 'Don't stop the music' but Chris Brown less so as I'm not so into R 'n' B.

Last year SE ran a W880 competition on GeorgeFM, but I didn't win
SE could do worse than sponsor concerts and radio stations when promoting phones.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Yeah, my favourite bands are Muse, Kings Of Leon, MGMT, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Interpol, The Faint, Kasabian, Pendulum, The Shins and Unkle.

You won't find anything even remotely resembling RnB in there.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
GeorgeFM...

Posted by yea g
mainly top 40 for me I mostly listen to the edge because i find the presenters funny

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Yeah I don't really listen to the radio. I buy all my music which is why when I quit my current job soon, I'm going to try for a new job at the CD and DVD store.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Looks like the new G705 won't be making a visit to New Zealand...

Posted by yea g
yea soo many sony ericssons dont make it over to New Zealand, the only way you can get the cool looking ones is from parallel imported

Sweet as you'll hook me up ay??

I've actually just gotten back into CDs since spending years listening to MP3

Was swayed by a couple of important trademe purchases recently

Of course mate.

Yeah, first I gotta get the job. I think I'll give them my CV when I go in there later this month to get the new Kings Of Leon.

I always buy CDs and convert them myself, so I have a large-ish CD collection. I like being able to have a physical collection of music rather than (sometimes crappy) files on a computer.

Me too. Plus with CD's you get to decide what you want to do with them and what devices to put them on. With MP3s you get dictated to an awful lot and basically only rent what you though you purchased...

People must be getting sick of losing access to music they downloaded to phones once the lose or upgrade thier phone, I know I am.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Yeah, that too. It's so easy to delete or lose downloaded music.

I also like having the booklet and album art that comes with a CD. To me, that is all part of the CD and the music.

Good to see you back carkitter.

Posted by carkitter
Thanks!

I've been dealing with exams and assignments and study for both... you know the drill.

I always enjoy reading the lyrics in the booklet to get a handle on what the song is about - except on Dance/Electronics tunes with minimal lyrics of course.

Did you hear about the inspiration behind "I'm On Call"?
Apparently the lead singer of Kings of Leon was perplexed about why his 'awesome' songs didn't take off so he listened a little closer to what does chart well and found that some of the most popular songs are basically just 3 words repeated. He tried it out with "I'm on call" and "I'll be there" and the rest is history...

I spent a few hours yesterday re-encoding all my CD's using iTunes at the default 128 bps. My eldest son just bought an iPod Nano, I'm looking seriously at an iPhone 3G and the V640i (now sporting an 8GB M2 ) is perfectly happy using AAC too. iTunes is not bad - its a little annoying how it wants to send you to the iStore all the time, but overall I like it. Have you downloaded Version 8.0 yet? Interesting new aa genre grid design to suit the forthcoming new iPods.

Speaking of album art, can you put aa from your CD's onto iTunes without an iStore account?

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Did your exams go well then mate?

I hadn't heard that about On Call, but that's very interesting. It was easily their most popular song in my opinion, and it opened everyone up to their band so that when they released fans, that went off too!

Does your son have the new Nano? If so, what's it like? I am seriously considering getting one because I really like the yellow one (for some reason) and the new features they've added.

About iTunes, I have 8.0 too. It is possible to stop it always trying to connect you to the store. If you search through the preference settings, you can find a way to disable the store under 'parental' and you can always turn Genius off to get rid of that. If its always bringing up the iTunes mini-store, you can get rid of that too somehow that I can't remember.

It's easy to put album art onto a song or album you haven't downloaded from iTunes (Oh god, I sound like an Apple instruction manual/video). Simply select the album or song you want:

Then right click on the selection:

Choose 'Get Info' to bring up this box:

Double Click on the box entitled 'Artwork' then choose your image:

I'm sure you're good from there.

Anyone want a pretty cheap W910i? Vodafone is now selling them for 400 bucks.

Posted by carkitter
Cool! got it sorted now.

My son got his Nano about 4 weeks ago so it's not the 'New' model.
He bought it out-of-the-blue after saying he was going to get a PSP. The screen is cool but I don't like the UI or click wheel very much, nor the proprietary connectivity that makes Sony/SE look positively open source

I'm keen on the iPhone but without the two functions I use the most ATM (Mass Storage and Modem) it's a bit of a worry. These are features it should have and Apple need to sort themselves out if they want to be taken seriously in the mobile market. It should have A2DP too but no doubt there's an accessory which will do that.

Edit: 400 bucks! Gee thats cheap!

Ah he should have got the PSP! Nah I bet the iPod will be cheaper in the long run though. Not having to buy games all the time and that.

Really? The iPhone doesn't have mass storage?! I though it would be like all iPods and have mass storage. That's a bit ridiculous.

And yeah, the W910i is depreciating rapidly. Don't expect its successor to hit our shores. I don't think it sells.

Posted by yea g
by the succsessor do you mean c905? It doesn't really worry me, im getting mine from the uk, but it would be cool to have one of the few c905's in New Zealand
