Lol, shows how much you know then. I don't blame you, since vodafone doesn't use edge, then whever your phone automatically switched to NZ comms' edge network it would say emergency calls only. I get to choose cause of a setting I have set.

Btw Nice new post editor! good work laffen!

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Its not Edge...

Posted by yea g
It is Oli! Whats G stand for then??

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
G = GPRS
But E has to be for Emerg. Calls Only. Every single time my phone says Emerg. Calls Only, it has the little E above the signal bars. As far as I know Vodafone doesn't use Edge so it can't be Edge right?

Posted by yea g
You know why? because the emergency calls only comes up when your phone can only get signal for a network thats not on your sim card. By the looks of things, we have 1 edge and 1 gprs netwrok online and so that may lead you to beilieve that the e is for emergency calls only.

If there is still some dispute about this then ask another person from a country with both edge and GPRS

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Nah that's cool man, you're probably right.

Edit: I knew E stood for Edge usually, I just thought that in this case the E had a second meaning.

who cares guys its meaningless anyway...

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Yeah who cares. I think my post sounded a bit harsher than I intended, so sorry if you took offense yea g.

Posted by yea g
Well originally I was just correcting you, but I hate it when people say i'm wrong when I'm not.

Posted by yea g
We should put what phone the people use next to their name on the NZers list

Posted by soane28
Good idea. You can put nokia 5800 xpressmusic next to mine (will be getting it in a couple of weeks when i got the cash)

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Can do, nice idea. I'll work on it tonight. Nice soane28, I saw a dummy for one in Harvey Norman yesterday and they look actually quite impressive.

Could you please enter both iPhone 3G and V800 for me?

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
No problem carkitter, will do.

Posted by yea g
You could also link the phone to its spec page using http://www.esato.com/phones/

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
@soane28, you may like to take a look at this.

Posted by soane28
Thats real bad news! Ill have to wait awhile then to make sure i get one with the new speakers

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
I'm sure there's a way to find out a manufacturing date on them, just like you can with SE phones. Then you could find out what date they started making them good and do a search for one at your local shops.

Posted by carkitter
Picked up my new toy today... a Netcomm 3G wifi router.

I'm going to install it on Sunday, take a few photos and post a review soon.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Nice carkitter. A future award winning review to look forward to!

The first post is updated with all the phones I could remember now. If you guys know more or have some suggestions, shoot.

Thanks, added.

@carkitter: That's too bad. I'm sure it will be an excellent review anyway.

Posted by yea g
We could always make our own "Esato New Zealanders awards 2009"

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Wouldn't it be kinda crap when only three of us post regularly?

Posted by yea g
Well heres some ones that all of us can win -
Best looking computer (Me )
Best reviewer (carkitter)
Best umm... Christchurchian (Oli)

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Haha, well you have to at least prove your computer is good looking. Might look like crap.

Posted by yea g
Hehe thought you would say that so...

Since that photo was taken, I have bought a 1tb hddd (which I used to do a macro with my C905)

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Yeah I guess I'll give you that, but I do like the look of my Mac.

I bet your set up looks awesome at night time, assuming you have lights in it.

Posted by yea g
Yea, its made of a uv reactive perspex and the fans have uv lights in them. The sun or a fluorcent light makes it glow blue really bright.

Although, as cool as it is, I'm thinking of getting a Vaio AW

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Awesome. Have you seen a VAIO P? As expensive as they are, they are so damn nice. I saw a few in Sony Style the other day.

Posted by yea g
I live too far away from sony style, 80% of my sony stuff was bought from the local bond and bond

Oh hey its march, only 4 days till I get my fast broadband back!

Yeah, and they run Vista too on solid state memory or optional HDD. Not sure if thats a good thing or not...

I like those AW Vaiotoo. I saw one on Friday with an 18.4" screen, couldn't take my eyes of it.

Posted by yea g
Yea all the aw have 18.4 inch screen. The more expensive one has a full hd 1080p screen, but I want the cheaper one. (VGNAW15GH)

Wow I was livin in 2008, now they got 2 more AW's (both have full HD screens but the major update is 64 bit os so now they can have >4gb ram)

Does anyone else find it weird that apparently we're not getting the W715 (the Vodafone version of the W705), yet we are supposedly getting the W705 here?

Anyone else thinking this could be a Telecom/Black+White release?

Finally a Mobile network who recognises how good SE products really are.

I've heard talk that Telecom are reinventing themselves as a VOIP company so I wouldn't get too excited about their Mobile network, it's liable to go off in the direction of Wimax and that would really screw things up.

They've already had two dead-end technologies, they should get away with HSDPA850 so long as the follow Telstra Australia's lead but if they dive into Wimax they may not recover.

I intend getting a Telecom USB modem just to test the speeds of their network from time to time, you know, to keep Vodafone on their toes.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Yeah I will probably get a Telecom simcard (I think my C902 uses the 850 band) just to check out their service, but I'm not holding any high hopes!

Anyway, I saw that advertisement on a bus stop as I was driving home from work through a bad part of Christchurch last night. I stopped and turned around just to take a photo of it!

Posted by yea g
Only 9.7% of new zealanders can get it???

I thought it was 9.7% too, but the Telecom website says otherwise. It does look as though there's a decimal point in there though. I think it's just dirt.

Posted by soane28
i was gonna say! 9.7 percent wouldnt be very convincing!

I was going to sign up to a vodafone contract but with telecom starting up in june i should wait and see what they offer first.

Ive changed my mind about nokia 5800 and im now going to get the LG Renoir in a couple of months.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Nice, an LG. I have yet to see anyone in NZ with one of the touchscreen LGs. Odd because they seem quite popular overseas...

Posted by yea g
My friend used to have an lg viewty, but he got a W910 when the touch screen broke
