Cheers mate. I'm just off to the top of the South Island for a week, so not even close to your area, but thanks for the offer! I'll be back around Esato Friday/Saturday-ish.
@yea g, I wouldn't be too obvious about where you live. You know, just in case!
Posted by yea g
I didn't think it was that obvious but anyway

I've been thinking about it, I'll probably be at MOTAT this Sunday instead.

Was fiddling with some settings and I found this under settings>mobile networks>prefered network and then typing "o"
Whats next g NZ????
Posted by carkitter
You lil' beauty!
Next G is Telstra Australia's 3G network. Telecom shafted TelstraClear by denying it access to their new GSM network, looks like TelstraClear have gone back to head office in OZ and got permission to pull out the big guns.
You may have just discovered NZ's 4th mobile network.
It'll be US style 850 Mhz GSM/HSDPA just like Telecom are building, meaning Telecom aren't just fighting Vodafone, NZC and B&W, they now face competition on the same frequency which negates their one point of difference with the other networks. Customers will be able to switch between Telecom and TelstraClear easily using the one phone.
This will hurt Telecom's share price and damage their chances of winning back market share from Vodafone. This opens up all sorts of possibilities and increases the chances of some real cheap deals in the near future.
Good spotting! You hit the jackpot there!

Actually I've known about this for about a month now and I only just remembered to tell you guys.

I'm back! And reading what was said above while I was away I remembered to tell you guys a couple of things:
My girlfriend texted me (she is in Whangarei at the moment) to say that in the latest MyMobile there is a Telecom Sony Ericsson phone which she said is "like your old phone" (meaning my W910i), so I think that she probably means the W760i will be on Telecom's new network, much like Telstra has it in Australia. Couldn't spot it on either Telecom's or MyMobile's website though.
Also, a few weeks ago there was a funny mistake in the Telecom mailout. They had an image of a girl talking on her phone on the front cover which was obviously just a stock photo they had purchased and used. But if you looked closer you would have seen it was a brown SE K770i that she was using, which is completely stupid on their part!

Oh yea, I'm very forgetful
Posted by carkitter
Well, I'm back online with a new laptop and 3GB per month of (potentially) 7.2Mbps Vodafone Mobile Data! Phew! Being unplugged is stressful.
My new laptop is a Sony Vaio VGN-CS13G/Q with a 2.1Ghz Pentium Dual Core Processor, 1GB Ram (soon to be upgraded) 250GB HDD and 14.1" Widescreen. OS is the dreaded Vista, but the Home Premium version makes things a little nicer. And the best part, inbuilt BT V2.1 + EDR!
Posted by yea g
If you don't want vista sony usually gives you an xp downgrade disk.

Sony haven't given me anything. I'm supposed to create my own OS backup discs...
Posted by yea g
Ah oh well. What about windows 7 beta?
Posted by carkitter
Maybe later. Still trying out Vista ATM.
@Muhammad Oli
Can I get all my music, videos and apps on my iPhone synced back onto my Vaio or do I have to find some way of recovering them from my old 40GB HDD?
Posted by Muhammad-Oli
As far as I know you can't take stuff off an iPod/iPhone using iTunes. iTunes is crap like that. There might be some third party software you could try, but I think it's far more likely you'll have to retrieve it from your old hard drive somehow.
Anyway it's nice to hear you're up and running with a new internet plan and laptop.
Posted by yea g
To take songs off an ipod use winamp (its a little complex how to do so at first but you figure out eventually) I'm not too sure about iPhone.
Posted by Muhammad-Oli
I would assume it would all work the same on an iPhone. I don't think the file systems, etc would be too different from one another considering they are made by the same company!
Posted by yea g
Yea also I think you can copy songs from your iPod to ps3 just by pluging it in.
Posted by Muhammad-Oli
You sure? That's not just flash drive mode you're thinking of?
Posted by yea g
Well I tried it on my dads iPod and no music came up, but that could be because the dog decided to chew the USB cable.
Posted by carkitter
Posted by yea g
That dog has caused problems before. One time I had the side of my computer off (was upgrading some bits) and then I went away for a while and the dog did a crap in the computer!
Posted by JiSm
I used Media Monkey for most of my "borrowing" songs from friends ipods. I did find that it wont work for ipod touch/iphone so I used Ipod Access to swap all my songs from Ipod 80gb to Ipod touch. Worked a treat!
EDIT: Oh yea, it let me save it all to the computer too

Tried the trial versions of both iPod Access and Copy Trans but they are too limited and the full versions are too expensive considering I still have to find a way to recover the rest of my data from the old HDD.

*cough* warez *cough*
Posted by Muhammad-Oli
What did you say? I didn't quite catch that...
Posted by JiSm
I didnt have to use warez nor pay for it! (Ipod Access). There was a promo where if you signed up to some video rental thing you got it free - so I did - and immediately called the video rental place and cancelled the subscription. Worked a charm!
- I just tried looking for the promo again but no luck. Will post if I find it.
EDIT: Ok I found it but its crap trialpay options at the moment.

So anyone get stuck on the motorway? I was waiting for a bus that never came, lol, and ended up catching the train.
Posted by carkitter
No, I live and work on the North Shore.
I hope there isn't any disruption like that when I go back to Uni. I use the Western Springs/St Lukes on/off ramps alot.
I watched the report on One News tonight - seemed unreal somehow, abit too much like GTA San Andreas for my liking.

Haha I think the NZ police are too worried about their shiny new Holden Commodores.
I missed the start of the news so I only saw the story when they went over the top stories. I might go look it up now actually.
Posted by Muhammad-Oli
K just read about it in a very poorly written article on Stuff.co.nz. Seems pretty dramatic for little old New Zealand! It sounds as though they think the Police may have shot the young courier fella that was killed.

Yeah, its turning into a real cockup for the Police.
They put in a rolling block on the motorway, but only on one side and the offender jumped the median and played havoc amongst the oncoming traffic, leading to the accidental death of that courier driver and a truck driver being injured. A serious miscalculation there by police I'd say. That they let the offender drive around for 40 mins beforehand smacks of that incident last year where they took too long to come to the aid of an Indian Liquor store owner in Manukau City after an armed robbery.

Well it's Auckland Anniversary weekend and I thought I'd post some pics my wife and I took of our family outing today. These were taken using our Sony DCR-DVD708 Handycam which shoots in 1 Mp resolution albeit with a Carl Zeiss lens and 25x Optical Zoom.
The new Orewa to Puhoi motorway:
Warkworth Satellite Station:
Yellow Treehouse - a restaurant 10m up a tree!
I'll be in the city tomorrow morning, I'll take some photos of the regatta.
BTW, Internet Explorer 7 finally annoyed me one to many times tonight when preventing me from uploading these pics so now I'm trialing Google Chrome... all good so far!

So hows the new road? I heard today there was too much traffic cause it was free lol.
Posted by Muhammad-Oli
To be honest, I haven't heard much about a new road up there. Might be because I've missed the news a lot lately. Like tonight I stayed at work to beat every single high score on Sega Rally 3 (which is awesome)
Anyway it all looks very nice! I especially like the restaurant... It's the one off the Yellow Pages ad right?
Posted by carkitter
@yea g
The new road is great. Cut through mountains, sweeping corners, amazing bridges, tunnels (which just can't be found anywhere else in Auckland), great views of the sea at Orewa, it's quite stunning. I didn't mind the queues at all as I enjoyed the scenery so much.
@M-O
We had lunch at a cafe, part of a Bee-keeping operation which produces delicious honey, among other products. The Yellow Treehouse is the one from the Yellow Pages ads, you're right but at $75.00 per head with a minimum of 4 people for lunch, it's a little expensive for us. It'd be cheaper to dine in the Skytower. I just had to go have a look though, you know, from a architectural point of view.
The Satellite Station has beeen there for as long as I can remember; they used to do tours back when it was Government department owned (TVNZ I think?) but now that its privately owned by Telecom it is surrounded by fences and no access signs, and deserted.

lololololololol were you still getting paid?
Posted by carkitter
Talking of the Yellow Treehouse, have you seen their website? It's... wow!
http://www.yellowtreehouse.co.nz/#
Posted by yea g
Woah that is good. I wonder how much they paid for that!
Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Wow, great website. Love the slidey thing at the bottom.
@yea g: Nah I wasn't getting paid, but I play the games for free while anyone else pays $2 per go (for Sega Rally at least), so no arguments there!
Posted by yea g
Lol so you have like a mega timezone card?
Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Nah we aren't upgrading to the card system til mid-February, but yeah, after that I'll have a Staff Card which just does free credits.
Posted by yea g
The card system is gay. Me and my friend went to the one in glenfield mall when we were bored, but we only had 2 dollars left so we couldn't actually get a card, and the machines don't take coins! (we ended up buying a kitkat at foodtown)
Posted by yea g
Oh well enough of my meaningless chatter.
Wah I had to go to school today
