Congrats Yeah G!

So the LG Renoir cam is just the same as C905 cam with extra sharpening. I just sharpened up the C905 sample shots and they were exactly the same as the LG Renoir's (I used gsmarena comparison shots). Only difference is that the C905 has better flash. Quite cheap if you ask me, throwing in abit of sharpening to make it appear better.

Its doing a FOTA with the charger in.

Ah. There ya go. Nice purchase by the way. I had a play with one of these in October before I came back. Very cool! I wonder if you can get Tomtom for it? If you can find it I have the NZ maps

Posted by yea g
Using trekbuddy atm. I havn't got a lock with the gps yet, but then again, I havn't taken it outside yet

Posted by JiSm
How does trek buddy work? Does it need a mobile network connection at all? I had one (Forget which) and it kept dialing up to update the map and all that crap. Cost a fortune on PAYG/Prepaid. Hence why I now use Tomtom! I was also able to change the image of "me" on the map from a Blue arrow to the Autobots symbol too! You can make whatever you want as an image on it - after a bit of converting that is...

But anyways, congrats on the C905 man. I really like it too. Ended up trying to decide between that and the Xperia. Was not an easy choice I can tell you!

Posted by yea g
Ttrekbuddy uses maps off the memory stick. Yeah, I would have got the X1 if I could have afforded it! Oh well C905 is still excellent

Nice yea g. Looks like a pretty stylish new phone ya got there... Now get to taking some pictures for Esato Earth!

Posted by yea g
Well I have to get to somewhere interesting first...

Posted by yea g
Woah its xmas on thursday, seemed to come so fast.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Yeah, how's everyone doing in terms of getting organised? This has been the most rushed Christmas ever for me... And the brokest. I get paid on Christmas Eve and will have to finish up my shopping then! It's going to be hectic!

Posted by yea g
Oh dear

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Well I just finished up my Christmas shopping. My dad is getting his first cellphone for Christmas!
Should be fun/annoying to teach him to use it. God my parents suck with technology...

Seeing it's Christmas Eve, I'd like to wish you all a Merry Christmas! I hope you guys have an enjoyable Kiwi Christmas in the sun with your families and friends. Hopefully you get some sweet presents too!

Oh and if I don't manage to get on Esato before 2009, Happy New Year guys. Here's to another year at Esato in '09!

Merry Christmas everybody!

Sorry I haven't been online much but between working and a lack of bandwidth, I've been unable to be otherwise. Due to the iPhone being excessively wasteful of data I tend to use up my 256 MB in 2 weeks but I decided to go back to Vodafone Mobile Broadband and signed up to another 24 month plan on a great deal which gives me a 7.2 Mbps Vodem stick as part of the package. No, I couldn't resist that... So I got it home to try it out and my Laptop won't switch on. It turns out that the RAM slot is faulty and it won't be fixed before the 12th Jan so I'm back on the iPhone 'til then.

I have some other projects on the boil too ATM; I'm 'hotrodding' a road racing bicycle for my eldest son with a custom paint job and graphics at a local spraypainter, and improving my car with a few simple upgrades - I recently added central locking to it, and am trying to find a way to connect the iPhone music player to the car stereo. Can anyone suggest a cable with good sound quality? TIA

Posted by JiSm
Merry Xmas peeps! Hope you had a wicked day. Maybe Santa brought you some SE goodies?

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Nice one carkitter, those projects sound great! Unfortunately I have no idea about those things though, so I'm afraid I can't help sorry! It will be good to have you back visiting a bit more regularly when you get the laptop sorted mate.

@JiSM: No SE stuff for me. My family a) can't afford it, and b) don't really believe in giving that kind of gift. I did give two people SE phones though!

What did everyone else receive? Anything exciting? It was mostly clothing and food for me but I'm not complaining. That's all I wanted.

Posted by yea g
Good to be back. I got LBP and I've been playing it for ages so yeah.

Liquorice, CD's, and a Whitcoulls voucher - all things I asked for. Looking forward to choosing a good book to read and perhaps another CD as well. After not buying any CD's for a couple of years and getting the odd single off Vodafone Live!, getting the iPhone and using iTunes has got me back into the music habit again.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Nice one guys. Yeah I saw you playing LBP earlier today yea g. Might have to meet up and play a bit sometime. Been trying out the level creator?

Posted by yea g
Well it took me a whole 6hours to get past all the stupid tutorials on the creator, but I did make a level. You should play it sometime

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Lol yeah I saw you publish a level. I was online at the time. Weird that I couldn't connect with you though... Must be a server problem.

6 hours though? I'm sure it only took me half an hour...

Happy new year everybody!

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Happy New Year! Why I'm not out partying who knows, but have a good one eh guys! Don't get too wasted!

Posted by yea g
Oh lol you guys were on esato? I'm stuck in paihia using a vodem/taping into unprotected wifi with my C905. Vodem sucks!

I second that, temperamental buggy POS. Put the SIM from the vodem into your C905 and use that as a modem. It'll startup faster and be more stable.

Posted by yea g
Well you won't beileive this...

I forgot the usb cable, and this laptop is so old it has no bluetooth so yea.

Posted by soane28
So ive been thinking...

Which phone would you choose? Nokia N79 or Samsung INNOV8?

I really like the camera on the samsung, so decent! And the music quality is raved about in all its reviews. But im told that the N79 has really improved on the music quality from the N82? And the N79 is cheaper.

Im looking for decent camera and decent music quality in a phone. The lack of xenon is not a big deal so much. I now own a sony mp3 player, so im going to be really fussy about the music quality but at the same time i want to replace it with a phone.

Posted by yea g
I reckon the INNOV8 is a really nice all rounder, I would have gotten it had it not cost so much (and had it not been samsung )

Posted by carkitter
I did a N79/Innov8/C905 comparison on Esato's phone section and to me the C905 wins easily. N79 styling is average and Nokia UI needs alot of work IMO. The screen on the Innov8 is impressively large but misses on some features I would use like RSS and Voice dialing/Voice memo. I like the 8GB internal memory but the large screen hints at an iPhone type touchscreen it doesn't have. The C905 scores on all sorts of levels and it's a Sony Ericsson - a hard combination to beat.

According to the SE 09 rumours thread, there may be a Walkman version of the C905 coming... That may be worth waiting for. I'd also consider the W902 in this situation and would definately have try all of the above before buying.

Also, the obvious question - have you tried an iPhone? While there are some glaring feature ommisions, the downloadable Apps are becoming a serious force to be reckoned with and the iPhone media player is second to none. Unfortunately the camera is truly horrible but I've just spent the last hour watching Coldplay clips on Youtube and at times like this the iPhone truly shines.

Yeah its really hard to pick one!

For me theres no point buying C905 when i can get much more features for a similar price (N79, INNOV8, LG Renoir even). The C905 is very expensive for what it offers in comparison. The xenon flash would be the only advantage for me personally.

INNOV8 is nice, luckily it runs on Symbian which im familiar with. I would never consider the original samsung UI it makes me angry!

And now that ive had another look at the competition, ill be throwing the LG Renoir in the mix too. Its video is actually decent, to be honest im not so into nokia or samsungs video quality, looks ok but nothing special like LG. Im very wary of the music quality though. Anyone have any idea to what itd be like? Camera is great, similar to C905 but sharper.

About the iphone - i have played around with one, although i just hate anything Apple! Id be more interested in the LG Renoir to be honest, 8mp camera, flash, decent video.

Well I'm back from holiday now and no more stupid vodem! So anyone doing anything interesting during the weekend?

Posted by carkitter
Hey guys, whadya think of the new announcements at CES eh? The C510 looks interesting, the W508 stylie and well equipped, but I'm lovin' that W715! Just the fine tuning the W705 needed IMO, and I like the red detailing on black too. I hope this is coming to NZ. It'll clash totally with the W705 which SENZ has already committed to but I'm sure I know which one VodafoneNZ will prefer to release here...

@yea g
I'm working all weekend but I have Monday off when I'll be picking up a bike frame with a custom paint job and graphics at long last. On the downside my Laptop turned out to have a fried motherboard and finding a replacement is proving tough... Buying a new laptop is not part of the plan ATM either.

The part I like most is the new C905 firmware

Posted by carkitter
I like that too, it says to me that SE recognize the impact Apple have made on the marketplace with firmware updates that add new features not just bug fixes. It seems SE have taken a few cues from Apple and we should see even more exciting new models next year as the global economy improves.

Posted by yea g
What laptop you got @carkitter?

Posted by carkitter
Compaq Presario V2020 AP with Pentium M 1.6 Ghz processor and 2 x 1 GB SODIMM RAM and 40 GB IDE HDD.
Nearly 4 yrs old now but still very usable if I can source a motherboard.

Posted by yea g
Try searching on trademe or ebay for an old one for cheap maybe?

Posted by carkitter
I'm trying TradeMe, I don't use eBay 'cause the UI sux and NZ is to remote to make it worthwhile.

So wheres oli been lately?
