Thanks!
Indeed I did win it! Kinda annoyed I missed the C902, as I was winning it for my girlfriend who needs a new phone desperately. And also because I came so close! But I am very happy with the T250i anyway and it will make a very nice back-up phone for me.

Doh! got that one wrong.
But this in the NZ Herald makes Goff look as weak as dishwater:

Mr Goff is being widely tipped as the frontrunner for the job. He accepts he is in the mix, but says the decision is up to his colleagues.

"I've always gone along with what caucus has wanted. I'm a loyal Labour Party person, it's my family, and they will make the decision," Mr Goff said.

"Whatever decision they make, I will be supportive of."

What a wimp. Can't wait to see how he fares in election debates in 3 years time

hehe just noticed - sony have brought back the SDM-HS95P as the KLV20S400A

Posted by carkitter
umm... What is that?

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Computer monitors I think. Though I think the bottom one actually has the computer built into the screen, much like the new iMacs.

Posted by yea g
nah, the bottom one is a bravia. Lol I guess it doesn't matter

Posted by carkitter
I saw a touchscreen HP computer like that recently, all built into the screen. The TS was not as good as the iPhone though.

I'd like a laptop with a twistable TS which becomes a 15.4" tablet. With Windows 7 installed. And 4GB RAM, Core 2 Duo with 320GB (or more) HDD. And the money to pay for it...

Carkitter has had a great idea for the first post of our New Zealanders thread, which you may have noticed has gone back to a 'work in progress' status. His idea is to have a map of New Zealand which would have numbers placed on all the main locations.

Below the map would be links corresponding to the numbers on the map, and these links would lead to our very own photos of these locations in the Esato phone photo section. The catch is that these photos must be taken by Esato members, and they must be taken with a Sony Ericsson phone!

I have already put in the map, and carkitter has provided me with some links to his own photos. The map is up too but as it is late, I have run out of time to add anything to it yet. Please, if you could, go have a look and give me some feedback on the map and the slightly changed layout of the whole first post. Bear in mind that the banners for each section are all going to be changed, so ignore those at this stage. Also, PM me the links to any photos that you'd like to see added!

Cheers!

Very nice. I have a some comments:

"Each link will take you to a photo of that location which was taken by a New Zealand member using a Sony Ericsson camera phone."
I think we should change this to 'Esato member' because I would like members from overseas who visit NZ and take photos with their phone to submit links too.

I'd also like to see more use of white space.

I'm viewing this on a 19" 3:4 monitor at the local library ATM and it fits the screen well. It also looks great on the iPhone.

Perhaps the links could be written in the colours of the rugby provinces? Navy Blue for Auck, Burgundy Red for North Harbour, Yellow for Waikato, Black for Wellington, Red for Canterbury, Blue for Otago, for instance.

You've put in alot of work already M-O and are doing a great job. I really appreciate it.

Thanks for the suggestions! I have changed the explanation to say "Esato members" now and I will work on getting some white space in there soon. I guess I got a bit carried away with the colour scheme, and I see what you mean! I'll have a go at getting the provincial colours in too.

I'm glad it looks good on both the iPhone and the library monitor. I'm hoping that the few changes I made to the HTML code in both the 09 Portfolio and our New Zealanders threads mean that it looks fine on almost every screen and browser now.

"Esato-earth" lol

Brilliant stuff Oli

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Thank carkitter for the idea!

I'm just making it happen. But Esato Earth could be a good name for it!

Posted by frankthetank
I have a full 360 degree panorama of Christchurch and Banks Peninsula taken from the highest point in the city to offer when this is all Thunderbirds GO....

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
That sounds great! So long as it is taken with an phone, give it an upload to the Esato camera phone photos section and I'll come find it when I've go this thing rolling properly!

Thanks mate! We try! I think we'd all agree that you South Africans are the same!

The first page is incomplete at the moment but I hopefully will have it up and running by the end of tomorrow! Today was about cosmetic changes.

Looking good Oli! maybe have the striped background continued behind the NZ (esato earth)

Perhaps we should all move to Whangarei were 1GB/s Broadband becomes available tomorrow.

Whangarei web now faster than a speeding bullet
2:29PM Wednesday Nov 12, 2008
Andre Hueber

Whangarei businesses will have access to faster broadband speeds from tomorrow through a super-fast fibre network link.

Telstra Clear has been working with lines company Northpower since May to deliver faster broadband services via a fibre network to Whangarei's central business district.

The project has boosted Telstra Clear's network capacity by five times, enabling businesses, schools and hospitals to send and receive information at speeds of up to 1GB per second.

Residential customers will be able to access the faster broadband in mid-2009. more...

Thanks yea g! I think I'll leave the map at the moment, just because it could look a bit cluttered with a background on there after we've finished with it. We'll see how it looks.

Wow 1GB/s broadband! Not that I'm complaining about the speed I get with my current broadband, but I definitely wouldn't turn down that kind of speed!

Posted by yea g
wow I could download my whole bandwidth in ten seconds! or a ps store game in 2 seconds! or a pirated movie in less than a second! or the whole contents of my hard drive in 2 minutes !!!!!!!!

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
I get the feeling a computer would get munted with that much data flying through in a second...

Posted by yea g
I wouldn't. I would like to remind you that SATA is 3GB/s, Ethernet can get up to 1GB/s and fibre optic can get 100GB/s

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Yeah but doesn't it still depend on how damn slow your computer is?

Posted by yea g
I guess.... but no lag cs!!! whooo!

No worries.
It was your inquiry that inspired the 'esato earth' project actually.

lol

Looks like a lovely place on earth created by God almighty

may pop down to say ello!

Posted by carkitter
We'd love to have you!
If you do that we may have to arrange the first ever gathering of NZ Esato members, something thats come to mind since our numbers have improved. The logistics of it don't bear thinking about though!

I guess it would depend on whether PK does a south island tour for scenery, skiing and bungy jumping or a north island tour for volcanoes, islands, fishing and watersports. Two thirds of us are in the north but given enough notice we could probably organize a trip to Chch for a weekend. Fares are the cheapest they've ever been.

Where are you oli? what are your thoughts?

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Sorry guys, I'm real busy designing my dad's magazine so my Esato visits have been kept pretty short recently. I'd be keen for a meet up if it were to happen! It would of course depend on time of year and where. There's always Wellington as a halfway-ish point.

Haha!
We could all invite ourselves round to K71's place...

I think perhaps a winter meetup should be in Chch while a summer one could be in Auckland.

Posted by yea g
Hmm... I wonder if there is a bus that goes down to wellington lol

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
@yea g: I'm sure there is. Although a bit of car-pulling could also work. Though then there's the whole "I only know this person through the internet" thing.

I agree, Auckland would be better for a Summer meet-up. Plus if it were over the Christmas university holidays I could possibly time it with meeting my girlfriend in Whangarei as she'll be there around then.

Posted by K71
Well if you have a look in my recently uploaded photo's, we probably could feed everyone!!
well indeed that front page is looking very good indeed oli, and i'm quite flattered to have one of my pictures used as well!!! nice!!!
so what type of magazine does your father publish?

just noticed, the "go" text at the top of the front page kinda blends in with the colour of the background hills.maybe a colour chage would be good?

@K71: My dad's magazine is nothing special. It is a 30 page colour magazine of children's writing which he publishes twice yearly to showcase the work done in his writing school. I do all the layout, editing, colouring and images and attempt to add some style to what I think is a pretty drab magazine!
I get paid so it's all good.

I hope its cool that I used your photo mate. Its a nice shot!

Unfortunately on Esato, we can't change link colours so we're stuck with the grey/blue coloured links. It doesn't look too bad on my screen but I can see what you're getting at, and I think the only fix is to change the image again!
Perhaps the main header image could be change every now and then to show off some of our fine mobile photography talent? Unfortunately though, to get the text to show up clearly, the image has to be 50% transparent, so it depends on whether you guys want your images like that.

Posted by K71
yeah its fine to use any of my pictures, it was just nice to see one being used!!
when i saw the conditions with half shadow/half glaring reflection, i thought it would be a good test for the camera.the main problem is picking which area to focus on.
even thought that magazine might be a small publication, its still very good experience to be able to set something like that up.be good to have on your c.v. in the future. and getting paid for it too!! parents can often be good like that eh?
pity about the links colour, but i guess it isn't too big a deal overall.

Yeah, the colour of the sea and sky look amazing too. And I love the old Tug boat. Some of the best shots taken in New Zealand are of seascapes.

Ah I should stick the magazine on my CV! I hadn't thought of that! Hopefully if they look the magazine up they don't find any of the terrible looking older copies from before I was working on it!

And maybe the next image I stick up on the first page will work better with the link colour. I'm going to be looking for a summery scene to suit the post's summery makeover!

Posted by carkitter

Am I missing something?

The first post still has frankthetank's Mt Cook image from where I stand and the Map is still a work in progress. I don't see any images or links to images for K71's photos. ???

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Yeah, have a look at the banner for what will soon be changed to be named Esato Earth.

Posted by yea g
So Oli what are you going to do with that t250 that you won??

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Its gonna be my back-up phone! Like if I'm going out somewhere I wouldn't wanna take my C902, and for work where I also don't like taking my C902 (we've had a few thefts of staff property and our customers are pretty dodgy folk).

Haven't received it yet but I'm hoping it arrives in the next few days. I got my lanyard today and will post everything in the "What I got from Playtime" thread when its all here!

Posted by yea g
Ok cool then! (I might keep my k610 as a backup for school etc.)

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Sweet, you getting the C905 soon then?

By the way, how come your sig says you're playing XMB?

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Lol my hairdresser has a C702. He has the black one and I must say real ones look really really nice (no the dummies). I had a chat with him and he said he traded in his old S60 Nokia for the C702 because S60 was too unreliable and buggy.
