LG viewty half price -$499 on the Dick Smith Electronics website. Not bad for a 5 Mp camera, 120 fps video, widescreen, touchscreen device.

I only like the Viewty for its 120fps video recording function. Slow-mo movies, anyone?

This is just robbery: CLICKY HERE

Make sure the currency is set to NZ $$$ and check out the price! (I'm talking about the X1 here)

Foreign currency 101: when the NZ dollar drops against the $US, everything gets more expensive... in May last year the Reserve Bank had to intervene because the $NZ was at record highs, now they may intervene because we are at a 5 year low. The Aussie RB has already intervened to raise the Aussie dollar. Now is not a good time to import a cellphone, but officially supplied phones are selling at record low prices to clear stock in a Market where people have stopped using their credit cards.

hey guyzz guess who's joining the >500 club

Yeah I understand that, but still when you're used to phones not really ever being over the $1500 mark, a $2000 phone is quite a shocking sight!

@yea g: Congratulations! That was quick! And nah I haven't, where do you buy them from?

Posted by yea g
Well AFAIK you can only buy them from the website (too bad - I dont own a credit card)

Posted by carkitter
PI has the HTC Touch Pro, I saw one on the weekend in Manukau. Can't remember the price though - something like $1300 I think. It seemed a little too small for my liking but with a SE UI and all the things the iPhone is missing it'll be hard to ignore.

Edit: it's actually $1600 according to the website.

Posted by yea g
The bilboard near my house of winston has "LIAR" sprayed over his face!

not too bad!! 1966 Le Mans race indeed!! however...............
the car is a GT40 MKII!!so not quite correct!!!
also, deeny hulme was a driver in the GT40 that officially came second, so 3 nz driver were represented in the first 2 cars!!
wonder if we'll ever get motor racing champs like those 3 again?

On 2008-10-27 12:23:44, carkitter wrote:
Haha!
It's a Ford GT40, specifically the one driven by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon at Le Mans (I forget the year) when the controversially won the race.

They were in 2nd place and the first placed GT40 was told to slow down so the two cars could cross the finish line together to maximize the photo opportunity -Ford beating Ferrari at LeMans was obviously a big thing. Anyway, because the two cars crossed the line exactly together, the officials decided the winner was the car which travelled the greatest distance in the 24 hrs and awarded the victory to the "2nd placed" McLaren/Amon car.

Hmmm... Could it have been 1966?

Did anyone watch the rugby? I must say that was the messiest, most annoying game of rugby I have ever watched. Although, the messiness did make me keep watching just for a laugh. I don't even like the sport!

Posted by K71
Was thinking about watching it, but didn't bother.More interested in football at the moment really.
Look what i found yesterday!!!crap weather then, but today is stunning!!

I put some other pictures in the main photo section. Some i took were a little fuzzy because it was a bit windy, but having a small bag in one hand while holding the phone with both hands was a bit stupid in that situation!!All taken with the cloudy setting on.

Posted by carkitter
Aha! So you went to see the Targa eh?
Next weekend I'm taking my kids to Pukekohe to see the first round of the National Championship but what I'm really looking forward to is the last round which is to be held at Hampton Downs(!) in March. I can't wait...

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
@K71: Nice pictures! Yeah that Ford Gt really seemed to be the star of the show eh? I've seen quite a few photos of the car floating round.

To be honest, I'm far more into football too. I've never particularly liked rugby ever, but I watch it from time to time anyway!

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Oh wtf? I have the earliest night I've had in months (2am still) and I work all freaking day and I miss 5 playtimes?! 5?! Come on! Last time we had playtime, there were 3 per night max!

Posted by yea g
haha I have got 1 playtime so far and missed like 4 last night.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
It's so annoying that Playtime has to start during exams too. Ridiculous. It's just ridiculous.

Posted by yea g
haha so true

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Vodafone is doing pretty decent Christmas offers. Too bad they're only really for new customers, not their loyal customers who have been with them for years...

You can get 3 months free Family when you go on a new account plan.
You can get 3 months free TXT2000 when you buy a new sim card.
And you can get MusicStation free for a month if you subscribe to it.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Hahaha, dumbasses:

Posted by yea g
lol they always get stuff wrong.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
I've noticed. They're useless, and their website is crap for finding info too.

Did anyone happen to watch Campbell Live a couple of weeks ago when they talked about how VF was charging $1 to call them about problems? I was like "Finally!" but then I missed watching it. Does anybody know what was said and whether anything has come out of it?

Posted by yea g
Is this it?

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Haha that last one was awesome. Good on him.

But that one about the $1 charge is a load of bull. It really annoys me... Some info isn't worth a dollar, especially when you're being put through to someone in Egypt that doesn't even speak English properly. A few months back my mum had some questions about roaming costs, and they're not even on the website! If they expect people to be using their website, they should at least make it helpful. T*ssers.

Oh yeah and they said that the cost of a call to customer services is $3-$10 depending on the length of the call. Surely they could make that cheaper by just having the call centre locally.

Posted by frankthetank
There used to be a menu option for topping up with a credit card registered to your "my vodafone" account; now you have to pay $1/min to talk to some call centre drongo who does it for you! With that kind of treatment of customers who would bloody sign up to a contract lol.

On another note, my insider has confirmed that any vodafone mobile will be able to connect to telecom's gsm network if they buy a telecom simcard....

roll on june.......

Posted by yea g
hehe 5 points now

YES! Back in NZ now! And what a lovely day in Auckland today. So nice. Had a BBQ an all! So glad to be back. People are so much nicer here. Still, made quite a few good friends in the UK that I am leaving behind which is sad but I have badgered them about how grat it is here so they will come.

Gutted the X1 wasnt released before I left. Still managed to get someone to post me one so will have that in a week or so! Can put my C902 on the shelf for now.

@Oli
Managed to bring back the sealed box brand new W890I I told ya about. Let me know what you think.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Welcome back JiSm! It must have been a beautiful day across the whole country today. Really sunny and hot in Chch too. Too bad I had work!

There's only one thing worrying my girlfriend about buying a phone privately, and that's the warranty. Obviously it won't have one, so I'll need to talk to her about that a bit more. Can I ask what colour it is and what price you'll be sticking on it?

She has also spotted the K770i at the Vodafone shops and I think she's pretty keen on that, but who knows what she'll decide on in the end!

Posted by JiSm
I think its silver. The sticker on the box is a silver one. Im thinking I should open it and have a look. Yea, I have no idea how the warranty would work as it was a gift from SE to me! Was quite good actually. They gave me a desktop stand for my C902 and a bluetooth stereo headset! Quite chuffed actually. Might just advertise it on Trade me. Chuck a reserve on it and go from there! right time of year me thinks! haha I brought back a few second hand mobiles I got from mates in the UK too. Might put them up too! Will see how I go...

Posted by frankthetank
Playtime wtf????

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Playtime is awesome! All you need to know about it is here.

Last year I won a phone strap and a EGB-100 (I think it's called).

Posted by carkitter
@JiSm
Welcome back!

Umm... That's only half right I'm afraid. The part about Vodafone phones not being locked and accepting Telecom SIM cards is correct, but that doesn't mean any VF phone will work on Telecom's network. Only phones that have the UMTS/HSDPA 850 (N95, K850, W760, Z770, Z750, G705, X1) will work. The majority of Quad band phones support only GSM 850 so WILL NOT WORK. Telecom's new network will not support WCDMA 2100 which Vodafone uses.

It's an exact copy of Telstra Australia TBH. For a foretaste of the phones you can expect, check out the Telstra Next G site. Because I'm posting this from my iPhone I can't copy and paste a link-sorry.

Hey all, new user here Just got my new C902 (Mrs got it from overseas) and I am loving it... Surprised to see such a large post/audience from NZ here!

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Welcome to Esato Blaxoid!

And nice phone! I have a black C902 myself and am loving it too. Great camera, great looks, great build quality! Yeah us NZers aren't doing too badly here... We're doing better than the Australians!

Where abouts in NZ do you hail from? I'm in Chch.

EDIT: I just added you to our New Zealanders list on the first page of this thread.
