my sister called up some store in Bahrain. they said the price is 180 dinar but it's not out (yesterday)
I assume within the week it'll come out.
I want to buy it in the middle east because our firmware is MUCH more stable that European phones.
I used to think that we get the crap, test phones in Bahrain
but it turns out, ours are much better.

hi Jalal, sorry for getting back so late.
I'm in Bahrain at the moment. Been searching everywhere for a white W900, apparantly some stores don't want to believe that the white one's are out.
After some persuasion, I got a staff member at Geant to tell me they've got the whites but they're waiting for the blacks to sell out.
I did play with the black, but it felt VERY plasticky. I was hoping that it would feel like the SO5060i in Japan since it's got a similar auto swivel.
Geant should have the white in 3-4 days the man said, and it'll sell for 218 BD. (Bahraini Dinar for those who want to convert)
He said that by Jan 1 they'll also have the P990. I doubt it, but I leave on the 6th, so there's a bit of hope.
He said the price will be around 300 although I doubt he was sure.

I haven't tried the SO505 but I liked the feel of the W900 but, didn't like the way they moved the silent button and the "C" button doesn't mute the ringer any more. Even though I just found out that this was done on the W800 as well. As far as I know P990 is supposed to be on sale late March but some are saying January. I'll PM you my mobile number just in case of anything in Bahrain that I can help with.
Ok an update, Fakhro the SE agent is all out of W900's and as far as they know there won't be any white W900's here anytime soon. They don't know why Geant claimed that they'll have white ones available.

Geant actually imports alot of their phones, i imagine they do some illegal stuff too since sometimes you see UK Orange branded phones for sale.
I'm going to Doha today so i'm going to see if they have the white or any news on the P990.
Today is day 2, so perhaps in 2 days you can call Geant and see if they have any truth to what they are saying. i should be back in three days and will update you then.
i really hope i can get one of the two (prefferably the p990) before I leave.

I kinda figured that Geant might be direct importing some phones from somewhere as SE Bahrain told me that they didn't buy any W900's from them. Are you sure you say Orange branded phones in Geant and not Gravity? Both located in the same mall. Gravity imports all their phones from somewhere. I have see AT&T T68's in there.

yeah i'm pretty sure i saw Orange branded phones in there. They were OLD HUGE 3G orange branded phones, i think they were siemens or something.
Anyway, today's the 29th and Geant haven't called me yet...
I didn't find any white w900i's in Qatar either sadly.
I'm going to wait until the day before my flight and I guess it'll be then that I'll either get a P990 (which I hope to God), a White W900, or if I can't find either then a Black W900

just a quick little update.
Geant have said that they should get the white w900 by the 5th at the latest, I'm not holding my breath and if they dont get it by then, would you be able to help Jalal at getting a w900 at a good price? I appreciate the help.
I guess the 5th will be my last day to search as well since my flight is on the 6th at 1:30am.

I don't usually post here but can't believe that some people have actually bought into lie that P990's are commercially available. They're not, I repeat, the P990 is not available for sale anywhere...there might be some prototypes around but I doubt anyone would so stupid to buy then for a ridiculous price...just be patient and you could part with a small fortune when it gets released in March.

I'm from Qatar and I can tell you that phone shops are EVERYWHERE!
You'll see them all over the streets and they'll have 'original' names such as
Twin Mobile, and Gulf Mobile etc..
In Bahrain, on Exhibition Street is a Mobile mall. Yes, a mall where over 80% are ALL mobile stores, it's like mobile heaven. There are two places there, Doha Mobile and Twin Mobiles. If you're father can go to check it out he might find some good deals on W900's. Qatar will most likely have the latest, but I just thought I'd mention Bahrain since it's only 22 mins away by plane and the ticket is cheap. So he could go there for a day.
Don't forget to bargain with them and be extra -friendly when you go inside to get good deals!
And go from store to store because you can get up to 40pounds price difference in different stores.
@Brix, in the Middle East we usually get phones before everyone else, sometimes WAY before everyone else. It's because people buy Sim-Free phones at full-price the moment they're out because they want the latest.
It's kind of like wearing the latest perfume, having the latest car, and showign off the latest mobile.
Add to the fact that they sometime's 'test' phones on us, and you've got the ideal ground.
@Jalal, that's cool, if you can get more info on that, it'll be great.

just happen to pass by virgin megastore in city centre here in dubai this morning and they have the low/mid end
fone z300i in stock(wasn't able to ask for the price cos i was in a hurry). no signs of the P990i in here yet keep you guys updated if there's any info about the P990i in here.

Hi Bro, just spoke to Fakhro's manager. P990 is expected sometime in Feb, as soon as a trial phone arrives he'll let me know, after that it'll be 2 to 4 weeks before actual sales units arrive. Anyway, I'll let you know what is going as I've been promised the trial phone for a few days.

I own the w900i it's a great phone .. but apparently when it comes to videos, it only runs media that has " .3gp" formats.
is there a way or an application that can make it run other formats like ".wma" for example?

WMA is Windows Media Audio, so that means that the format belongs to Microsoft.
however, you know the program that comes with the W900? On the cd, it should convert it automatically for you. Use that, or if you have I'm sorry i can't help.

Dont take this in a wrong sense...I myself m a proud Indian & patriotic as well...thats the reason I m still in Bombay with my family & not in Riyad, Doha or Dubai where we ve our own shops n showrooms...I could be driving a Porshe in Dubai but preferred driving a Toyota in Bombay as this is where I belong.
But let me tell U about some Indian working in our (Indian owner)'s shop in the Gulf...we deal in Garments n ve ordered out sale personel 2 measure more than what the customer has asked for as this is what our religion has ordered... but some (Indian sales personal working at our shops) never do it...one such person told me, when confronted that "it is not in his blood 2 give anything more than what the customer is paying for" even though, he is not loosing anything by doing so...oh wait, ofcouse he lost his job...I kicked him out...didnt send him back 2 Bombay...got him a job at an Watch showroom in Sharjah...cause he was truthful.
What I m trying to say is we are not behaving, as a proper guest should in THEIR country & they have a right 2 complain...we would aswell.
Lastly, amnesia did say he didnt say all Indian are like that as he has MANY Indian friends (I m not one of them MANY yet) and all of us dont become bad if someone says few of us are (by his true experience)...we are what we are...Proud Indians...but we could be a lot better, so much so that THEY should feel & write good stuff about us here & everywhere.
Dont see what others can do for us...see what we can do for them & we wont need to ask them.
