Toyota Prius if you want a cheap car to use since it's a hybrid car and can go 24 km on 1 L gasoline... And it's goodlooking

Posted by indian
what bout nissan micra (not the new one the old skool one) , or a clio?

Posted by fatreg
pug 106.
saxo?

fatreg

Posted by Burgaz
106's are pretty expensive to insure, unless garaged over night. Well my GTi is...

My First car was a Nova 1.3SR. I loved it to bits. So much that a year or so later i bought a 1.4SR. They weren't too bad to insure, less than a grand on both of them. But that was nearly 10 years ago and i do live in the valleys....

and good is Citroen C3, or C2

Posted by Burgaz
How much have you got to spend any ways P900lover?
I mean for the car and the cost of insurance?

Posted by p900 lover
about £2000 for the car ish, and the unsurance will be payable my my mum so i dunno £1300.

but this might change if sum 1 get me a car 4 my bday

Posted by below24
Personally i think you should get a SL 55 AMG, but thats me.

Really though, you must have some kind of preferance.

Most the london lads have peugeot's 106, 206, 306. OR Fords, personally i dont like them, good old german cars do it for me... VW all the way, look at autotrader they can also give you good guides...

Good luck.

Posted by fatreg
2k should be able to pick youself up a Delta integrale for that much!

fatrge

Posted by Burgaz
And never insure it!!

Posted by solidsingh
citroen saxo vts

Posted by Burgaz
How the hell is he gonna insure a VTS as his first car?
And besides the 106GTi is practically the same car only much better!
And one hell of a lot less common!

Posted by solidsingh
saxo looks better than 106 gti, insurance will be 1000 if he puts it under his mums name and puts himself down as a second driver

Posted by Burgaz
How can you say a saxo is better than this?

Yup that's mine... Totally standard!
Ya don't get leather seats in any saxo... But ya do in a pug! An no this one wasn't made with the aid of an elephant and a hammer...

tht doesnt luk TOO bad i suppose is it a 1.6 16v? wt hp is it puttin out?

Posted by Burgaz
As standard it's giving out 120bhp and yes it's a 1.6 16v
0-60mph in 7.7 seconds(recorded)
tops out about 130ish...

How about a Porsche-Wagen mate . . . -> Beetle! Or a Lambor-JEEP ney pal . . . -> Jeep. That would be nice . . .

Posted by JK
what about a box bmw?? 325.. 92 model??? sure thats cheap in uk.(depends on the price of feul there!)

golf 2 gti, golf 3 gti/vr6, nissan 200gxi, vauxhall 200ts,....

Posted by p900 lover
thanks guys i will have a look at prices 4 them all later

Posted by haynesycop
cheapest cars to insure are corsa's or micra's and somehow i dont think you would want a micra

corsa's are good little cars, we have 2 in our family

Posted by p900 lover
right im 17, have pasted my theory test, not just have to do my practical in the next 2months,

iv looked at the cars recomended and i dont like
-micra (just dont lol)
-corsa (heard the suspension is really weak on humps)

but this is my short list
-VW Polo
-Astra
-Punto
-Rover 200

im liking the rover 200 a lot, what are ppls views on it?

also now that rover have gone bust what would that mean to me as a owner?

Posted by Leviath
Polo 100% yes...

Astra its ok

Punto you could do worst but not for me

Rover 200 or any rover... Old mans car.... besides the point theire worth shite...

VW man stick to it....

Posted by JT
VW all the way yea

But why a polo? Whats wrong with a golf?

Posted by Leviath
its his first car... VW yes golf insurance nail down...

Posted by JT
Yea well a Golf will be my first car

1)Dont pay 4 insurance

2)Put up or shut

Easy really

Posted by JT
Thinking about it you could get your mum to insure the car under her name as it would be cheaper for her because of her age and how long she has held her liscence.

Then just get her to put you on the list of drivers then you pay her the insurance.

Posted by max99
i'm looking to be put as 3rd driver on a little corsa worth bout grand. It would be insured under my dad whose driven for ages and my mum also driven for ages wud be under it, and then me, under provisional license

gona cost £1,500+ tooooo much

Posted by p900 lover
i think im goin 2 insure it under my mum anyway,

so what do ppl this of the rover?

and what does it mean to me now they gone bust?

Posted by ijefferies
Now Rover have gone bust, all it means is that prices are very low. The spares are readily available, and for 2grand you can get a newish 200 that's very tidy, and it'll leave you enough change for a tartan travel rug!

Posted by lamont
most insurance companys dont let your parents insure cars under there name anymore for there children, to many people did it for young people and premiums went higher. My parents trid it with my brother a couple of years ago and no insurance companys would let them do it.

Posted by p900 lover
thanks guys, so getting part shouldnt be a problem?

just need 2 pass my practical now

Posted by Leviath
Rover???

I rather walk...

Gone bust also means your gonna have a hard time getting shot of it...

Vw go blind on this one....

I have been driving for ten years I have had a few cars but none as reliable, cool, sexyand reliable, did I mention reliable b4?

I have had vauxhall, Seat, BMW, Peugeout, Volvo... no one comes close...

I have had two VW so far one GTI 16v 1976 and a Polo GTI (current)

Love it.... wouldnt change Vw for an extra testicule.

Japanese cars are the most reliable and have the best ergonomics.

Don't get the Rover, get a 92-95(EG) or 96-99(EK) Honda Civic instead.

You may miss out on fake woodgrain and worn-out leather, but you'll get a superbly engineered, well built, reliable car, with sharp steering, crisp gearchange and excellent brakes. (The Rover 200 was based on the Honda Concerto/Civic for many years, but Honda did it better)

They come with plenty of engine options:

Newer versions have 1.7L and 2.0L iVTEC engines.
There are plently of performance parts available for Civic's too, if you want to do-it-up later on.

I was a Honda Service Technician for 6 1/2 years, so I know how good they are (and how poor the Rover is in comparison).
I had a 1994 Integra VTI-R 1.8L DOHC VTEC 170bhp for 3-4 for years, it's still going strong at 240,000kms despite many trips to the 8000rpm redline.

I got a VW citi golf, velociti 1.6i!! so cool!!

Posted by Leviath
insurance boys @carkitter....

That would bankrupt any mum on the 3rd party or named driver... 115bhp heck.... that would be the fastest thing to the cross garden for a newb... given him a 170+bhp and bye, bye....

Next visit would be in hospital or worst.... oh ok been there...

Posted by carkitter
115bhp Civic EG does 0-100kph in 9.2 seconds, quick, but not dangerously so.

The engines from faster models bolt straight in if you want to upgrade later. Type R gearboxes have Limited Slip Diff and close ratio's - awesome for motorsport. In the US they bolt in the 2.2L Prelude motor, turbo-charge it to 600+hp and do 10 sec ET's.

You can't insure under your parents name these days, they call it FRAUD now.

Buy the VTEC-E if you want, it can achieve approx 70mpg. I'm sure Mum will like that.

Here's some pics:
EG Civic 3dr

EG Civic 4dr

EK Civic 4dr

Hmmm... can't see my pics anymore!?! Very odd

@Leviath
My wifes 70 yr old mother drives a 2005 Corolla 1.8L with 136bhp. It hasn't killed her yet.

I wouldn’t go under your parents insurance; you won’t be gaining any no-claims, which will massively reduce your premiere when you want to go on your own insurance.

I’d go for the punto (but that’s just me)

And try elelphant.co.uk they seem pretty cheap. (knocked £300 off for me)

Best cars in the world mate, cheap as chips to run, insure (group 2), etc, spares are readily available and very cheap, if you're into modding your cars, the possibilities are endless - a honda 1.6 v-tec engine will drop straight in - and £1500 will get you a very decent little number. And apart from anything else they are brilliant fun to drive, and look great - they turn heads. There are lots of Mini clubs scattered throughout our fair land, and they are brilliant fun, too, lots of events etc all year round. A mini isn't a car, its a lifestyle choice

(i'm a bit of a mini nut, in case you haven't guessed)
