This is one of least cluttered up forums on the net(this is the main reason i'm more active here than on any other forum i have joined) , The categories are perfectly limited and categorised, and if you havent noticed, this is a Sony Ericsson phones exclusive forum and the categories are more than enuff.

And the length of a thread shows the quality of the posts and the depth and detail of the discussion, and its much better than having a thousand threads that are repetitive and answer the same questions over and over again and probably not more than a few posts in length like in most other forums

and the mods are doing a wonderful job in locking up unwanted threads asap, much better and faster than most other forums i've been on

btw threads are not locked because of their age, they are locked only if they have served their purpose, have content which are against the rules, or if the discussion has gone way off topic

*rant over*

u kinda just proved his point

sure it seems messy at first. but it's like a messy room, you know exactly where to find things and if you tried to organize it you wouldn't know where to look anymore.

@AngryTino
Esato doesn't get any less messy by you posting a very Esato related issue in the General forum instead of in Esato forum where it should have been.

So, if you don't mind I'll use my useless Moderator priveliges to move it to the right forum.

well said

I third that. Still I wish ppl would post in an old thread if they match the topic and mods would lock the new one if another thread would be available. There are too many threada about the same topic. But I think this is difficult to do. Good would be if a mod could paste a new thread into an old one that matched the topic, so you could find all related info in one thread.

oooo Good idea there

exactly and like a messy room, the joy you get when u find something in that mess which you thought was lost long ago

I fourth numnums. And here on Esato when you ask another question in a started thread it'll get answered while on other forums they only answer the original question. And that is what makes Esato so great :-D

We tried that some time ago with no sucsess.
What we tend to do now is linke two ways; Link the locked topic to the existing one and add a comment in the existing topic reffering to what we have done, if we find it nessesary.

Heaven forbid that someone should offer an opinion! The chap merely made a point (quite a valid point I have to say) and he is dragged over the coals by other members.

I for one would like to see some of the silly threads, which have been locked, deleted. Take a look at the Esato Forum itself, the first page is full of locked threads, which could easily be deleted.

I don't agree with the idea of locking older threads, they are among the only threads that contain posts from people I recognise!

Kudos to the chap for raising this point though!

I agree that an already locked thread should be deleted within a day or 2 of it being locked.
Esato is not exactly a mess though. Keep both eyes open, watch your step and you will find your way around with ease

not be deleted, archived

Posted by Vlammetje
deleted, not archived. every archived thread takes up useless server space

Posted by gelfen
but a locked thread may be the only repository of a specific piece of information on this forum, so leaving it will allow memebers to find that information rather than having to post another thread for requesting something which has previously been provided.

likewise, locked threads which link to other threads widen the search parameters that can be used to find certain information due to the differences in terminology used about the same or inter-related topics.

Posted by Vlammetje
agreed.... but i do believe tha arghument was 'threads that are locked but really should be deleted', which I interpret as: threads that have absolutely nothing to offer and no informational value for the forum

Posted by Dragonfly_TP
I think it is easy that you can see right away that the newest poststst are on the esato homepage

Posted by Krubach
Why don't we just scrap all this and start over?
We could make it better from the begining.

As I said in the PAST, the Mobile Phone Free Zone and Garbage Thread should have NOT been included in the Blueprint by Laffen. Had that been done, I will not be HERE . . . . now (and forever)

Now that masseur is back, he should clean out the dead wood with his iron broom.

@vlam: i understand what you're saying, but i think that's a rather narrow approach considering the development of this discussion. people will have differing opinions of what constitutes a "useless" thread. just because a thread contains no meritorious informative content doesn't mean it should be locked and/or deleated unless it is wildly offensive or otherwise inappropriate.

besides, the continued presence of locked "frivolous" threads could stand as somewhat of a warning to others and prevent further similar posts - say an inconspicuous version of a head mounted on a pike at the castle gate

I would like to see the deletion of threads that have been locked fater someone has linked to another thread dealing with the particular topic.

thereby, in theory, reducing the number of times such threads get posted by making more useful search results available.
