I don't know how this exactly happened, but apparantly you should never leave your charger plugged in when not in use (I always do).

A Dutchess County family has learned the hard way never to leave a cell phone charger plugged in when not in use. Michael Hansen, his wife Connie and their 5-year-old son Mikey lost everything in the fire Saturday.

I think a vast majority of people do leave them plugged in,but we dont think that they can very easily overheat and POP!

Could have been an old charger... they're not so sophisticated/safe as the new ones I think. Then made it was just a Nokia charger. Because the phones do tend to explode every ones in a while...

A rare phenomenon. On matter how much technology improves there will always be such incidents.

I just unplugged my charged, just in case.

indeed any electrical equipment can cause a fire if its bad design causes it to overheat or if its simply old and worn. I guess we see it as a bit more sensational when its related to mobile phones but in reality its probably no more worse a risk than any other appliance

they say you should try not to leave things plugged in unattended i guess this is why.
se had to recall a load of there chargers as they had a problem which could cause this as i remmeber about a year or so ago

do you think they could sue the phone company? (of charger maker, if its a different company). because nowhere does it say to remove it when not in use. no in the manual, or on the charger eather... so they didnt know, ya know?
