Release of MOBILE SPEED (http://www.mobile-speed.com)
Mobile-Speed is a service designed to compress the data which you transfer over a mobile internet connection (such as : CSD,GPRS,EDGE,CDMA,WiFi,etc), thus increasing the transfer speed and effectively reducing your costs, by reducing the time you spend online or the amount of data you transfer.
Mobile-Speed will compress HTML pages you surf. It won't affect the quality of the page or the way it's displayed.
Opposed to other similar services, we compress data, and not cut of images or page elements to achieve performance. There will be no difference in using our service, in terms of surfing experience.

Yes,
Currently we support the Symbian UIQ (with Opera Browser), or if you use ANY mobile phone to surf the Internet from your laptop/desktop.

Sign-up :
Make sure you filled in all fields (name, email, device, country) ... it won't work if the fields are left empty.
Information is dispatched manually ... so check your mail in a few minutes.
The service works for surfing only at this time. Further features will be implemented in the future.

hmmmmm the use of the proxy really slows down the surfing time.
I think some thing must be fixed.
With out proxy my surf net is faster
Posted by mobileground
What are you using? GPRS? For me it works faster and compresses stuff.
Posted by hyperken
ya gprs.
I tried to check www.hotmail.com and it stuck there forever.
maybe is because of the proxy server's location is far from mine ???
Just my wild guess.
the 160kb/page is it the reason of it stuck in www.hotmail.com website?
Posted by mobileground
Hotmail loaded fine here.
MSN messed up pretty much however. I am going to look into it now and see why.

hmmm after i use the proxy only surf few site.
www.imageshack.us for uploading a 127kb picture
isp.tm.net.my just to test the speed after compressed (failed)
www.hotmail.com (stuck there)
and the url for testing the proxy works or not
and guess how much data it used up???
Data sent :232KB
Data Received: 625KB
hmm.. i didnt notice any compression was done =.='
and from the sites it should be 90%+ reduces right?

Hello,
As mentioned on the website, Mobile-Speed compresses HTML pages and their content.
Images, archives and other data that is already compressed, can't be compressed further.
Try this for a RAW html test : http://www.izaino.com/meter.asp

hmmmm not bad a huge jump from around 29kbp/s (without proxy enabled) to 140kbp/s (with proxy enabled)
compression from 44kb to around 15kb
Good work ^_^
Looking forward for other compression on IM or other applications .
Worth a try dude ^_^
IT WORKS

You could try IM through the proxy, if your IM client supports HTTP proxies.

Opera does something like this already. I used a trial version of it about a year ago. Seemed to work ok.
They call it mobile accelerator and you can see it here: Opera Mobile Accelarator

Opera Mobile Accelerator cust off image quality.
Mobile-Speed compressed HTML content with no quality loss.
Image reduction is something we plan on adding soon.

@mobileground
Any plans of coming up with J2ME-based IM app (for MIDP 2.0) that takes advantage of your compression technology?
Posted by mobileground
Hi,
We aren't much into J2ME development, but what I can say for start is the Mobile-Speed is just the begining of a range of services we plan to offer for mobile users.
What will be next :
@mobile-speed.com email accounts with :
WAP access
light HTML access (with compression!)
POP3 access
SMS notifications (for every email or every X hours, and so on)
... and as usual, any good ideeas and suggestions are welcomed.
