RIP
Posted by MikLSP
Earlier the news was showing lots of people praying for a miracle that he survives but personally I can't see why.
It's innevitable that everyone will die so let the poor bloke go.
now he's passed on they should be happy in their beliefs that he's now with the man he lived his life to serve.
how old was he btw?
Posted by govigov
Pope John Paul II was 84 when he died. He has be in service for 26 years and has survived an assassination attempt in 1990. (As i know it)

When will the next one be appointed?

It truly is a sad day, i am not a religous man but i still feel he was great man and a great leader for the catholic religion, Rest in Peace

Im not religious, but if he made that many people happy, then he must have been a great man.
Posted by brix25
Won't make much of a difference to my life...perhaps the next pope should ease the church's stance on condoms because their use actually saves lives.
Posted by DarkWolfX
Yeah it´s sad, didn´t know, I read yesterday he was in a very bad situation, and today I know he has passed away...
By the way, why in almost all the posts is this thing called: "RIP"?
Posted by N-er-G
It means Rest In Peace

I am not a Christian, but one respects goodness in any faith. He served the world and his God well, if only more people were willing to give of themselves as he did. I am happy that he is now free from his suffering. May the Holy Father find peace and eternal rest with his God.

"i'm sorry I don't agree; People die all the time, a commeration of one persons death is against what the bible is supposed to teach, that everyone is equal in God's eyes.
Making such a fuss about one person is wrong, unless there was the same amount of fuss about every death that occurs. He was no more important than you or I or the people that die of hunger, starvation, war or disease everyday.
Besides that, someone who manipulates the masses is never ok in my eyes. The world is better without a pope who spreads lies."
Just an explanation for my Woooo! Before I get any more PMs.
Please refrain from sending me any, your comments bear no weight in my eyes and I have a right to my opinion. He died, get over it, he is in a better place now right? Haha.
DISCLAIMER:
I am free from all prejudice, as I hate everyone equally.
That is all.

if one of us at esato died, i bet everyone here would make a big deal about it...
Posted by Sammy_boy
I'm not a religous man, but he was an inspiration to millions, and stood by his convictions, even if I may not have agreed with them, he was a good man guaranteed his place in heaven (if it exsists!)
Rest in peace.

@Sage
I agree with most, but when you think about it, everyone is created equal, but the Pope devoted his whole life to the christian faith. I have to say, If I was a christian god, I'd have a soft spot for him.

I didnt know that the pope was a member here on esato...
I have to agree with Sage, milions of people die everyday that we dont even hear about, but when the pope dies the whole world comes to a stand still...What happend to equality?? Anyways, he is going to a better place according to his religion.. so good for him.
Were all going to die some day and im sure that when i die, nobody (except for a few friends and family) will give a toss, im sure that most of the members here on esato that dont know any members in person, could die tomorrow and we would never know about it.

Wow thats really depressing. At least people will miss my encodes

i know, im just i passive esato member, but i cried as i wrote that last post...

Im the most passive here! I've been around for 2 years and even more before i made a board account, and I only have 206 posts!

im as much of an atheist as the next person is, i do however find i amazing that some people can run their whole lives around a book that was wrriten in a didfferent language a few thousand years ago.
i also find it amazing that there a 7ish religions in the world but only 1 God?? and none of them correspond! The Christian God is in no way connected to Allah the Islamic God!?
how does that work?
But any way RIP Pope John Paul II you did indeed have a great influence on 1bn peoples lives.

Its about time. I think its ridiculous, i dont believe in religion or anything of that sort. But rip old man.
Posted by amfne033
nickorooster has a very good point, not only did he devote his whole life to the christian faith but devoted his whole life to helping the sick and the poor travelling around the world more than 30 times, visiting more than 120+ countries and covering more than a million miles,
He is different/better than the rest off us he IS more than i can ever hope to be
Posted by blayv
I don't know if this opinion is going to be appreciated- I think it's much to do with media manipulating over masses. If you (or I) saw on tv the number of people that died all over the world, their age and how they were loved and didn't deserve it, and how bad their death were, you would have to cry for a lifetime.

@folling182
Now that's MY kind of religion!
I'm not particularly religious either, but I don't think it's wrong to show a little respect to the millions of people for whom the death of the pope has had an impact in their lives. Sure, they wouldn't give a toss if one of us kicked the bucket but I do believe that to many people, Pope John Paul II meant much more to them than being just a public figure or indeed a religious leader.

thats what i like to see a bit of humour in a sad thread! keep it up folks!

They are the same God, just as they are the same God as in Judaism. The vast majority of adherents to all three of those faiths recognise that.
@all
Why is it that people feel the need to utter criticism in a thread created to show a measure of respect to a man who has died? If you do not believe in any religion then that is fine; if you did not personally like the man then that is fine too, but why exactly are you posting about it here? Presumably you would be fine with someoe who hated a loved one of your's coming to their funeral and criticising them? If you have nothing positive to say in a thread meant to show some respect to a fellow human being, then why not simply not post? Or do you feel that you must make a point so as to gain some sort of attention?
@sage
I find your posts most pathetic indeed. You initially make a post expressing a view you almost certainly know to be controversial and then you make a second post allegedly to explain the first. Here is a more likely scenario; your initial post was designed to grab you attention and when no one commented upon it publicly you decided to make another post. Quite why you feel the need to hijack a simple thread created by others to honour a man they believed in is beyond me. If you did not like the Pope then fine, but it seems somewhat crass to crow at another human being's death.

I actualy didnt know what to write when i read sage posts, so i didnt, but you have summed it up to a tee.
I am not a religeous man either, but i dont think that has any relevance to this thread, this thread was created to show respect to a public figure who has touched millions, if you dont have respect for this man dont taint this thread with your remarks start a new thread or keep them to yourself.

I feel very sorry for everyone that posted here showing no respect mainly to a man who died, and secondly to all the ones that share his beliefs.
Rest in Peace Karol.
And thank you for everything you have done for the WHOLE world.

Hear hear!
A little respect and maturity is in order, whatever one's beliefs or lack thereof.
RIP Pope John Paul II - a great man.
Posted by nickorooster
Im sorry if I appeared out of order, but my opinions and feelings stand thus:
1. I am sceptical. I do not condone believing in a god or religion in general, I accept people for who they are, not who they worship. If I met a Muslim, a Jew, a Bhuddist and a Christian, I would pay no attention to their religion, but their personality. However, religion can have a great influence on personality, what with the 10 commandments and their equivalent (there are similar laws to govern human behaviour in every religion).
2. I agree that the Pope was, and will be remembered as, a great man. I respect him for how he and his faith have helped so many people, and I am truly sorry to see him go. From previous posts, it may have come across that I was un-sympathetic (im not sure thats the right word, but people know what I mean) to this "cause", but I was merely trying to say that he was a great man, but also that if a major figure from another religion was to die that had as great an impact on the world, I would sorely miss them too.
I hope I haven't offended anyone with this, but I am posting as I respect the man, and what he stood for.
Nick
