had my s700i updated with R3K its still rebooting, think its the phone or a dodgy update?
Posted by whizkidd
More info needed. Did the phone behave like this before the update?
Posted by acrop1
same problem here with s700. rebooted from day one even after all updates
Posted by whizkidd
What exactly happens?
Posted by STINGA
Sounds like a dodgy update.
I had my S700 updated from R3B002 to R3K004 and it has worked flawlessly.
I would get it reflashed

Or trade it in under warranty.

Ive only had the phone for 3 weeks, and only seen it reboot 2 or 3 times, the screen goes black but fuzzy like its crashed then just reboots, anyway ill take it back to the service centre its local let them take a look, im still in my 30day peace of mind garantie i could cancel this contract and wait for the z800, which phone would you go for? s700 or z800

I am on my second s700i due to the rebooting problem. The problem seems be a product of the way it is interacting with the MS. I have had the S/W flashed once after receiving a new one. I no longer use the 128 MS, but use either the standard 32 or the 64. I think the data xfer from the MS to the phone is causing it to crash. I do not have a 128 mb MS Duo Pro, so I can not check it but with my 64 mb MS Duo Pro with Magic Gate, I have no reboot problems.
If it is rebooting with the 32 mb MS card, I would then say that it is a design flaw. One thing to check, does it reboot when using BT as in connected to a headset? Mine crashed when on the phone, connected to the HBH-660.
P.S. I have tried the 128 mb MS in my z1010 and it works flawlessly which makes me think that it is the combination of the 128 and the s700i. My 10 year old daughter loves the fact that she has now has a z1010 with a 128 mb MS so that she can record and play more now.

It crashed and rebboted while i was looking through my pictures and another time it was just sitting on the table didnt even touch it i noticed it reboot, cant get my bt headset to work properly with it works fine with my p800
Posted by sapporobaby
After it reboots, try taking the battery out, so that there is no power to the phone. Remove the MS. Put the battery back in, and the MS. Turn on the phone. When yours reboots, does the screen blank and then go white, and then it appears to go back to the same point just before the reboot?
Posted by se4me
the screen goes mainly black but with grey and white pixels looks like a jumbled pic then reboots

Wait does this mean that I will not be able to use a 128 MB MS-Duo?!

How did you get a 64MB MS Duo Pro to work. The S700i doesnt support Pro cards. I tried a 32MB Pro in my S700i at one point and the phone didnt recognise it.
I also used a 128MB duo without any problems at all on my S700i. The only thing that I can think that might have made a difference is that my 128mb duo had been formatted on a P800 and wasnt fresh when I put it in the S70i.
Posted by Rookwise
The 128mb MS Duo I have in my S700i was initially in my P900 which is also what I used to format the MS with. I still get the rebooting problem. Have just updated my S700 to R4K so I'm hoping that this will help towards the problem.
Has anyone emailed
about the problem ?
Think I'll send them one tomorrow night after work.
Posted by jcwhite_uk
Just a suggestion. It doesnt seem to affect all the s700is though, but it does seem to affect a lot. Weird.
Posted by Rookwise
yeah. I person who I work with has had no problem with his 3 month old S700 while my 7 month S700 has had most of the problems reported on Esato.

@JC
Not sure. I had a 64 Mg MS that came with the hopefully long dead BT MP3 Player Headphone that SE released about two years ago. I just took the MS out of it, and put it in my s700i. No problems. To be honest, I am not sure if it is a Pro card. I assumed it was because it was White with Magic Gate, but now that you mention it, it might not be a Pro card. I will have to get the card back from my daughter when she gets home. I think more and more it appears that it might be a combination of cards, phones, the moon and stars, the wave of the ocean, electro-magnetic fields, etc... and in the end, no one, not even SE knows why the phones are doing this. It is easier for them to give a new phone and hope for the best it seems.

So, can we or can we not use a 128 Mb MS Duo card on s700i (fresh new, not formatted, from the store) without experiencing the reboot problem?
Posted by sapporobaby
@Val
To be honest, not sure. My 128 was newly purchased in Qatar for my s700i. It worked for a month or so and no problems, then things went to crap slowly. I got a new phone and it has rebooted twice so far. However, I have tried the 64 mg card and the 32 mg card with no problems. The thing for me is that I do not use my s700i for songs. I have an iPod for this. I use a few ringing tones, and photos for my contacts, so in reality a 32 meg card is enough for me.

I got a K500i Latets firmware and it keeps rebooting i dont have a memory card etc. Whats going on. I used SE tool to flash and unlock it. I even did a reflash but it didnt help.
Posted by se4me
mine just rebooted again, i took a picture and bam..!! there it went again its no good se will have to sort somthing...!!!
Posted by whizkidd
Truly wierd!!
Posted by gbrooks3
K500iphone,
You try with R2AG

@Chris
I have never had this happen. What are you using for a storage device? I have also heard that it could be caused by the sim card that you are using. I am researching this. I can say that this has never happened with my Vodafone card in the phone. Only happened with my Sonera card and a few times with my Wataniya card.
Posted by se4me
The original 32mb card, and yeah just my vodafone card, using my t-mobile sim at the moment see if it happens again, although its only rebooted 4 times now in 3 weeks scince new
Posted by sapporobaby
Is your card sim card a new one, i.e. 32k or 64k meg card? Also, do you know the voltage of the card, i.e. 3v? I am trying to just brainstorm here with your problems. I think it could be a number of things now related to other than just the Memory Stick.
Posted by se4me
my sim? not sure how do i find out? it is a new one tho
Posted by sapporobaby
I think that you can ask your service provider.
Posted by Rookwise
Had my S700 switched on for 2 days straight now with the 128mb MS Duo in and nothing so far. Upgraded the firmware last night to R3K with no problems either. I think it may be like what happens with the P900/P910 where it restarts to improve performance when it starts to slow down. Shame it doesn't come up with a message like the P series did to let you know what had happened.
Posted by sapporobaby
I think that SE is actually a bit afraid of this problem being that they are exchanging the phones. They have quite a bit invested in the next series soon to come out. If these succeed, they can push SE back to the forefront and make them an real contender in the market. They are also looking for that churn that is very important to getting users to change from brand xxx to SE.

lm droping my s700 into the service centre tomorow ill let you know the outcome

Hello guys!I'm from Greece & my S700i is 3 months old!I bought it with R3F008 software & upgraded to R3K!In the fists month,i experienced the bug with phonebook(that in some contacts don't appear the name or the photo of the contact but only the number)but it fixed it since i transfered all my phonebook at my K700i and send all the names then with Bluetooth at my S700i!I have experienced the rebooting problem sometimes when i browse large html pages & also some times the phone reboots without touching!Grrr!
Posted by vojta66
Well, have S700i for 3 months and sometimes - when the phone if off for a night - the alarm does not sound!! Then when I press the on/off button the phone is not switching on, but OFF - CAN YOU IMAGINE - TO OFF MODE FROM OFF MODE - TWICE !! just the initial animation and the phone is REALLY OFF. Then I push the button and the phone asks for a PIN code and I can use it normally.
But - as I wrote - only SOMETIMES the alarm is ok, when the phone is off...but sometimes it does the same bug as I described above....it drives me mad.
Posted by poutsaras
I've never had any problems with the alarm! It always rings! But sometimes, when it rings & i wake up,i push the button to stop it & the phone reboots!!!It turns off for a while & turns on again without asking pin!!Please, can anyone send e-mail to SE to ask them fix this very annoying rebooting?I payed 600 € for this phone(i bought it without a contract)& i want it to work perfect! Is that too much?If they have problems with the software, they must first solve those problems before the phone reach the market!!!!
Posted by Valentiner
My phone is 1 month old, but I never experienced the reboot problem. You guys are scaring the shit out of me
I want to use the 128 Mb stick for mp3-s. This seemed like a nice deal, but I don't think I would stand a phone that reboots so often
Posted by sapporobaby
@vojta66
You can set your phone to alarm even if it is off. It is not a defect with the phone.
Get the 128 MB card. There are plenty here that have had no problems what so ever. The problem is that there is incredible demand on these guys (SE, Nokia, Samsung, etc...) to get phones to the market so that they can retain, maintain, or acquire additional market share. We are doing some of the beta testing. Just the way it is.
Posted by poutsaras
So guys, could someone send an e-mail to Sony Ericsson to ask them if they'll upgrade the software with newer version?I also experience that problem:i have the random play of the songs in media player always off & sometimes the phone turns it on itself!!I can't e-mail them because i don't have a pc!They brought out new software version for K700i(R2AL029)& V800(RIS025)and they have fart the S700i!!
Posted by Rookwise
It been a few days since I upgraded my S700's software and so far nothing has happened. The phone as been in constant use and left on overnight as well.
So far so good
Posted by poutsaras
Well,i must say that some of the bugs mentioned here & in other threads, depends of the use of the phone!I mean, when the update of a phone completed successfully & the phone appears to have bugs in some features, this must be common in all phones with the same firmware version but in some people some bugs don't appear because they don't use the functions that cause those bugs!
Posted by se4me
my phone reboots when im not even touching it, ive noticed a couple of times out the corner of my eye i see the light go on then watch it reboot, somtimes when scroling the phonebook,
Posted by poutsaras
Me too!I saw it sometimes to reboot without touching it!But other times,it reboots when wapping(mostly when i browse large html sites that can be displayed)& some times it rebooted when the alarm ringed! This occurs with both of my memory sticks!(128 & 32 MB)!By the way:Chris can you contact SE asking for a new software version & when will it out?I don't have pc so i can't send them e-mail!
Posted by se4me
ok ill call them tomorrow, i have been meaning to do it, as my local service centre only does the updates, and not repairs and i have to send my phone off to be tested, but dont wanna part with my s700i for 2weeks...lol
Posted by poutsaras
Many thanks Chris!I am from Greece & we get the updates immediately when they come out!But i call them & they say that the current firmware is R3K004 & that they don't have a clue about a newer software!I believe that they work in a new software, because they upgrade already K700s & V800s software,so i suppose that they'll upgrade the S700 too!Maybe they're late because they want to do a good job!
Posted by se4me
we can only hope, from what i hear from the o2 s700i they supose to have sent all there stock back due to the software problems, if thats true there se surely gotta do somthing, and soon
Posted by sapporobaby
I think SE is probably busy with their other phones.
Posted by poutsaras
I hope they'll fix that annoying bug of rebooting!& that of phonebook! But,what's going on?All their new phones have new bugs!I mean that in new phones the problems with previous models must being solved! But they insist to make their software buggy!I'm a fan of SE from the age of T68i & always i buy SE phones! But this does not mean that i'm not get angry for their software!By the way,in my opinion,SE must had presented in Cebit camera phones with 3 megapixels resolution!Samsung & Motorola presented 3 phones!
Posted by strayboar
You will probably have to re-update...
Posted by sapporobaby
Re-update what? What are you talking about?
Posted by sapibobo
I use unbranded S700 (r3k) with 128 mb Sandisk MS Duo card and dont have the problem. I had this rebooting problem long time ago (r3b), but very rarely. I changed the original MS Duo with one from Sandisk and for this couple of month this problem dont exist. Keep my fingers crossed.

I don't think it's a doggy update!If it was,the phone wouldn't work!The update must be done 100% succesfully otherwise the phone won't work!Also,if all labels in service menu(ITP,CDA,customisation etc)are correct it's 100% sure that it's not a doggy update!So,for o2 customers it's a new software version out(R3L002)Nothing for us,with unbranded phones?Why SE?
