I'll be getting an NGAGE QD next week or so. Any ngage user here, pls let me know the pros and cons of this phone. Also i tried an SE phone within my budget but none looked like providing me what i needed. So i'm getting this one. I'm not selling my dear T230 though! Sorry SE!! (For the time being) :-D
Posted by gojnik064
Yeah, its the same with me, 3650. I had a T300, now my mom uses it. Btw, I think the old n-gage is better in some way, radio.
Posted by whizkidd
But its bigger. What advantages does the older one have over the new?
Posted by mustafabay
The only thing the QD has in its favor is size and the way you talk into it but nothing else.
Posted by Residentevil
Don't forget you don't have to take the batterie out anymore to change games. Plus I find for a gaming phone the screen is still pretty small.
Posted by m100
I don't think the QD has MP3 either.
Posted by whizkidd
I won't be gaming that much. My main concerns are a good html browser like opera for internet on the move and also for use as a gprs modem.
Posted by S4k1s
Buy a used p800 dude. If you don't want the phone for the games then there is really _no_ need for you to buy that phone
Posted by whizkidd
I had that in mind. But an used P800 is hard to come by here. Also, i would like pretty good memory expansion. The P800 has only 128 mb. And also, memory sticks are more expensive.

@whiz: N-Gage QD Kicks Ass, In my opinion, N-Gage QD is WAAAy better then the old N-Gage, Especially for gaming (Consider this: This phone is not a Phone, Its a gaming console) The Keys, are optimal for gaming (as compred to the n-gage1), the screen is a lot more responsive and the Hot Swap is very effective. If you wanna play 3D Games on the go, There aint a better phone. Period.
Ps. Oh and the Opera browser for S60 is totally king of the hill.
Posted by whizkidd
Hmmm.... :-D Also, the screen is better in the Ngage QD.
Posted by nitesh
And also qd is cheaper than old ngage, i wonder why? because its smaller ;-)
Posted by whizkidd
I thought the old one was discontinued. Is it still available?

@whiz: If youre buying the QD, You must check out Tom Clancy's: Chaos Theorey,
Here is the interview with the makers:
mobilised asks, "One of the defining visual characteristics of the Splinter Cell series has been the use of dynamic lighting on both the environment and character models, particularly on the Xbox and PC versions. On a platform such as the N-Gage, which obviously doesn't have the same power as those machines, how have you replicated or replaced this lighting model?"
Hi mobilized, this is an excellent question. Lighting is, as we all know, one of the biggest features of the Splinter Cell trilogy -- it was out of question to create a title without such an important gameplay element. From the very first day of development, we took what we learned from Ghost Recon and focused on a significant optimization to our engine, and believe it or not, integrated a very impressive dynamic lighting system!
So, to answer your question more precisely, yes there is in this version, as well, a real lighting system. More, we have prepared series of challenges that will make you interact with lighting to create unique situations such as shadow corridors or enemies distraction.
mobilised asks, "Chaos Theory on home consoles is set to feature music from both Amon Tobin and Jesper Kyd. Will any of this music remain intact in the N-Gage version?"
Hi mobilized. You will be able to listen to some music from Amon Tobin in the game's menus. Additionally, our sound design team -- which created all in-game music -- has been very much influenced by Tobin's style and you will certainly recognize the style and atmosphere while playing.
mobilised asks, "Is the graphics engine used in Chaos Theory for the N-Gage an evolution of the one used in Ghost Recon: Jungle Storm, or something completely new? Can you outline its main features and why it sets it apart from other 3D engines currently available on the platform?"
Mobilized, this is another good question. As I said earlier, we started by taking all that we learned from Ghost Recon, then took some time exploring the feedback from players like you, and coupled it with a very intensive optimization of the engine. Overall, Chaos Theory runs an updated version of the Jungle Storm engine. Some of the very cool features you will notice are:
A terrific lighting system.
No far clipping, you can see very far away. Sniping is so fun!
Two impressive vision mode. (Night and Thermal)
Hi-resolution textures on walls, objects and characters.
Detailed animation system.
Last one from mobilised, who asks, "There has been a noticeable evolution in the technical expertise which Gameloft have shown on the N-Gage game deck and this next installment in the adventures of Sam Fisher looks to continue that trend. How much further do you think the handheld can be pushed beyond that seen in Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory?"
Mobilised, one of Gameloft's main objectives is to always push the potential of a platform to its maximum. As you may have seen, Ghost Recon, Asphalt and now Chaos Theory have all seen impressive technological and entertainment achievements -- and this is not about to change. In terms of exploiting the N-Gage in the future, we believe this is something that needs to be adapted for every project.
At the beginning of Chaos Theory, the team had questions of our in terms of how much we could improve upon the graphical quality of Ghost Recon. However, creating a graphically rich game with a dynamic lighting system was identified early on as a core focus, and so we invested the resources accordingly to make this happen. Now, when I look at the screenshots and compare then to Ghost Recon, I'm often impressed by what we were able to accomplish. This is where developing for a handled like the N-Gage is so fun -- no one ever explored these paths before. It's like walking on the moon for the very first time, at every new project.
I'd finish up saying that games like Pocket Kingdom and Pathway to Glory are showing that focus on 3D graphics isn't the only way to push the limit's of the system, and that a system like the N-Gage provides opportunity to innovate in areas other then just graphics.
deegg asks, "Chaos Theory is looking amazingly impressive, in comparison to the 2D side-scroller that initially graced the N-Gage game deck. The progress has been very steep (in a good way), so do you think we will we see any more games in the future that will have graphics better than Chaos Theory?"
Hi deegg, thank you for your question and comments. We are very glad that you guys like what you have seen from the game so far. Each project gives us new material to use, new ideas to explore, and further experience we can leverage to push the limits of the system. For both visuals and gameplay, you can definitely expect more impressive N-Gage titles from Gameloft.
By the way, congratulations on your award for Player of the Year on N-Gage.com!
last one from deegg, who asks, "Reports on several sites have told us that the game was restricted to eight missions or so. Is this true? Is it too late to change, and are there any other features in Chaos Theory that would extend the longevity of the game?"
Thanks for this question deegg. Let me appease your worries already: the game is very long! Chaos Theory proposes nine story-driven missions, one training mission, five exclusive (not replays from single-player) cooperative missions and versus mode maps for your multiplayer sessions.
shadowrunner7 asks, "Approximately how many gameplay hours will it take the average gamer to complete? A veteran gamer?"
Hi Shadowrunner7. We were very interested by the comments and feedback players had about Ghost Recon -- and we did our best to address that feedback to make sure players will be happy with the amount of gameplay we packed into the game. Expect over 10-15 hours of non-stop gameplay to complete the single-player game -- and only if you know by heart every single-player mission.
Also, we added one secret package per mission that will unlock special outfits for Sam Fisher -- which will not be an easy task to find! There is also about ten minutes of pre-rendered cinematics, five increasingly-challenging cooperation missions and two 'versus' maps. All told, we believe this creates a package that no other N-Gage game has provided. I expect we'll see exciting cooperation from the community due to the complexity of some missions.
shadowrunner7 asks, "Can you explain the control scheme for the more complex maneuvers?"
Shadowrunner7, the new moves in Chaos Theory may sound very complex but accomplishing them is as easy as pressing one button. Press the interaction button to grab an enemy from the pipe and break his neck. When you grab an enemy from behind, pressing the 5-Key will knock him out, where pressing the 7-Key will make Sam use his new tool, the knife.
In the same vein, just get next to a wall and press twice on the jump button to do a split jump. All moves are really easy to accomplish, and our training mission will make sure you explore most of them before using these signature moves against the 'real thing'!
last one from shadowrunner7, who asks, "What factors will determine your N-Gage Arena performance rating?"
Thanks for your question shadowrunner7. There are many things that will determine your score on N-Gage Arena. The goal of the process is to find out who's the best Third Echelon agent, so you better make good use of your gun only when it's needed and try to be as stealthy as possible. Detection, kills, time, and objectives completed are all part of the factors that determine your overall score for each mission.
Moreover, you will not only be able to see other player's scores, but also be able to download their replays to see what they did to get their score. We hope to see a lot of exciting competition as player's strive to gain the ranking of the top Third Echelon agent in the world!
rioku asks, "You deserve a huge congratulations because even the screenshots of this game make me drool. My question is, when we're playing will we be able to move around more freely -- say if some guy was shooting at us from behind would we be able to turn around quickly and easily get a good aim? On some other games it takes a while before you get good aim on some enemy."
Hi rioku, thanks for the question. As you already know, Splinter Cell is not about taking your gun out and trying to kill everything that moves. The enemies in Chaos Theory are highly trained mercenaries, so if you try the Rambo route, you will die much faster than you expected! Knowing that sometimes emergencies call for stealth to be abandoned, we made sure that aiming is always responsive and intuitive, to give the player maximum control. However, the first rule for success is to always use the environment to your advantage -- and in extreme situations only, take advantage of your Fifth Freedom and clear out the threat.
clintonjeff asks, "In this game, are there lots of Sam Fisher's moves that we're used to?"
Hi clintonjeff, thanks for your question. I will answer the question as fast as you asked it: Yes, almost every move that you could do in any other Splinter Cell game is included in Chaos Theory for the N-Gage.
clintonjeff asks, "Is Gameloft planning to make any other games for the N-Gage platform?"
Clintonjeff, Gameloft will definitely remain a strong supporter of Nokia and the N-Gage game deck. We love working for this platform and continuing to push the envelope to deliver top quality mobile games.
papermario asks, "Would you in the future make anything for the N-Gage game deck that was a true online, multiplayer game?"
Hi papermario, thanks for your question. Gameloft hasn't any concrete plan to enter completely in a "true online" project at this point, but its something that we are always keeping in mind. I'm pretty sure that the day we will make a complete online game, you will be truly amazed by its quality.

Posted by whizkidd
I have used the Ngage and i'm impressed by its browsing capabilities.
Posted by Johnex
If you really like the phone for what it has, go for it man, i think that would be the best advice you can get.
Posted by whizkidd
;-). I'll be trying for a P800 too. Let me see.
Posted by S4k1s
whizkidd I still don't belive Ngage QD is the right choice for you if you are not going to use it for gaming.
I belive P series got Opera.. should be good for browsing internet, or have I missed something like if Ngage have better resolution?
Posted by whizkidd
As mentione earlier, gaming isn't a major concern. Good browsing capability on the move is what i'm looking for. The p series will cost me double the price of the Ngage.

I did my homework. I used an Ngage for a week to make sure i don't waste money. I was satisfied to say the least. Only if SE had something for me within my limitede budget! *sigh*
Posted by S4k1s
well if feels right buy it m8 =)
Posted by whizkidd
Meanwhile, i'm on the look for a P800 too. But it is very hard to get here.
Posted by BobaFett
Why dont u go for a t68?
Posted by whizkidd
Boba!! No html browsing! Almost same as my T230! Why should i? Its too outdated!
Posted by k700nut
for its low price, the qd is amazing.i've had mine for about 2months,and am relatively impressed.the only problems are;4mb internal memory and sluggish browser(4kb p/s)..on the flip side it accepts 1gig expansion, hundreds of apps,1000's of games.i've got about 150 .sis games/roms and loads of apps on mine, and the battery life is quite admirable.only problem is instalation of files of 1.6mb or above.any files over this size require installation in parts.get it mate..trust me.good luck.
Posted by whizkidd
I know that! I previewed it for a week and am satisfied with its features to price thingy.
Posted by EastCoastStar
why a p800 not a p900??
juss wonderingg
Posted by whizkidd
I already mentioned the reasons earlier. The P900, would be atleast double the cost and the P800 is hard to come by.
Posted by BobaFett
Outdated? Well, no comment. Listen, take a free time job, wait and collect some cash, then go for a se fone which might your wishes.
Posted by whizkidd
Boba, why should i opt for the t68? Your opinions? On what does it score over the Ngage. I know these two cannot really be compared, but still.....
Posted by govigov
whiz... tou are willing to pay 8000 now add the cost of t320 to it... say 2500... now that is 10500. now a second hand p800 is like 12k. if you cant find it in bombay, where else do you expect it to find it. really a lame excuse that you cant find it. now there is a diff of 1500 rupees. i am sure that can be arranged. a loan of some sort or perhaps some other way to get the money. now i wouldnt get ngage when all you need is 1500 more to get the p800.

why buy a phone that you dont want cant afford and my not do the things you want.
its not like se come round your house and charge it for you or input the web address you wish to surf.
at the end of the day its personal opinion and budget constrants, you ve obviously tried it and it suits your needs and wallet so buy it and enjoy it
if the next phone you buy happens to be an se then enjoy that as well, at the end of the day its still 2 faceless corporation out to make money
Posted by EastCoastStar

@whiz My dear friend . Be proud for your choice;-) . My friend has it and i am amused at its functionlalities. With a few appz it can work as a real time browser
Posted by whizkidd
Govi i'm 80 odd kms away from bombay. I can't go around looking for a P800 in a city like that. Also i will be needing more memory. Something like 512 mb. Now, the P800 has this 128 mb limit and the sticks are expensive like hell. For the amount you're mentioning, i would be cooling my heels with a 1gig mmc with an ngage which is brand new with warranty and still be left with some amount!
Posted by chili
@whiz, go for the N-Gage QD. It suits your current budget and it gives you the set of features you want. What else needs to be said?
I myself have tried the QD. It has one of the best 4K color screens -- even looks better than Series 40 65k color screens.
SE and a lot of other manufacturers seem to believe that Symbian OS should be used on high-end models only. This would've been fine if their proprietary OS were as powerful as Symbian.
And so Nokia has done admirably in this aspect -- making Symbian available to the masses with its mid-range models.
As for the P800/P900, remember that you couldn't use the keypad for email, chat, and web browsing. Would you really be happy typing words with a stylus. (On the other hand, a stylus makes navigating in a webpage much faster. It's like having a mouse.)
Posted by k700nut
Well...I've seen a load of bullshit replys now.T68i?What....And the p800 is just obsolete and unreliable. If you can afford an extra 50 to 80 uk pounds, get a 2nd hand p900...Otherwise it's qd all the way.Pm me dude.
Posted by whizkidd
Thanks for the replies guys. So the Ngage QD seems the best bet for me.
