Strange things happen every day! Ericsson stopped the production of it's chatpen a long time ago, now i open a newspaper full of technical material, phones, computers etc. and what do I see? Nokia produces a chatpen exactly like the old one from Ericsson? Why do they believe in a success of that product, while I nevr saw Ericssons chatpen ?
...anybody has one here? Is it a good thing?

Posted by BobaFett
Its a great thing, i mean the /// one of course

Posted by Qoastro
What is the chatpen? What can you do with it?

Any pics?

you said that you never saw the /// Chatpen before,
how can u know that the nokia chatpen is exactly the same as the /// one ???

imho i never saw the chatpen before too, is it something like the new Siemens one ???

i didn't remember the model #...

Visit the /// forum for pix and datas, the search helps u

You can find the chatpen on the official, global SE website! Unfortunately I never saw it in reality, here is the link: http://www.sonyericsson.com/s[....]_1_1&zone=pp&lm=pp4_1&pid=9753

The Nokia one is called SU-IB, for me they are very similar, what do you think?

i've never seen it aswell. but i know that the technology used by ericsson is also used by nokia, and some others

it was a nice product, but abit to soon for its time. you also needed special paper to draw or wright on. (an improved version of this that could wright on everything was ready, but never lauched).

today such a product wouldn't mean much, cause most people who would by them would probably get a P910 instead and use its touchscreen to wright or draw things.

chatpen is not developed by Ericsson or Nokia.
Its a product from a swedish tech company called ANOTO

you can find out the information of this company at www.anoto.com

Anoto is also owning the company tht make C-Pen those pen like gadget which can be a translator or scanner.

So u mean, that /// hasnt got to do with it? Chatpen was advertised with r520 first, cos of bt.

Posted by vanquish
But it probably wasnt ericssons original invention!

Posted by BobaFett
Weird, thought /// took apart in the development at least.

Posted by vanquish
I guess they might have, but they might have got another company to do the dirty work i.e. manufacturing...

Posted by BobaFett
Dirty work? I dont think it would have a big deal for them to it.

Posted by vanquish
Not dirty work, but takes up time and money...

Nokia and are just two of many partners that Anoto have... Logitech and Maxell are for example two other companies also having a digital pen from Anoto.. http://www.anotofunctionality.com/cldoc/aof24.htm

Posted by BobaFett
Anyway, the swedish master was the first to release it and thats what counts!

Posted by bucheral
Well, that's what I believe too!

Posted by BobaFett
I never had the chance to get one, even it was for sale.

I extract this from anoto site. E/// is a major shareholder...certain influence will be in there. As Anoto is utilising BT to transmit data to the phone before sending them out

The Anoto Group is represented on three continents with 100 employees in total. The headquarters are in Lund, Sweden. Other offices are located in Stockholm, Boston and Tokyo.

The Anoto Group is a Swedish high-tech company with unique solutions within two areas:

Transfer of handwriting from paper to digital media.
Scanning, processing and storing printed text.
The Anoto Group mainly work with two trademarks: AnotoŽ and C-PenŽ. Major owners are Ericsson, Logitech International S/A and Robur Fonder.

Posted by BobaFett
I never heard of nokia chatpen in the time when /// released it.

Posted by david1975
yeah it was the same one as the one being shown now the se does look better though nokia showed it with special paper to use with it it was quite a while ago now i think it was shown with a 3650

I got two of the Nokia Digital Pen SU-1B. It's for a research project.
Logitech has one pen too, Logitech io Pen. I know Ericsson released one too, but have never seen it on sale, or I don't know if it ever went on sale.

The Nokia pen is useful for its purpose. But I must admit that i prefer the logitech pen.

I have an Sony Ericsson Chat pen, and I use it every day at work, CHA-30.

I use it with my T610, it does not support the T630 or newer handsets, due to the processor speeds being to fast for the pen.

Here's a pic of it for you to see it.

Whoa! I recognise that pen! When I was doing some "practic work training" (PRAO) thru my school I was working at Uppsala university and visited a man working with developing the paper used to write on and I got o test the pen and send. (Later I discovered that his assistant was playing volleyball in the same club as me )

Posted by david1975
