Hi All,
Had a quick browse but could`nt find anything to help me out.
Today i noticed i was getting the message in the subject instead of vodafone UK.
I have gone to manual network selection and then select network. There are two options for vodafone. One has a small blue "cross" in the top left corner of the voda logo. This one pops up the 3G icon & Gprs icon and signal strength but i now also get a small phone with a red cross through the upper right portion.
The second vodafone option which does not have the blue cross seems fine but i am assuming that is a 2G only network selection.
I phoned my provider who checked with the network who claim there are no network faults currently. The "no access to network" now seems to have gone but does come back now and then.
Any thoughts?? i would rather the phone worked as it was supposed to and not have to change network selection menus to manual etc. But do i have a faulty handset? or sim? or is this just network issues?
I have screen captures of the phone screens
Thanks in advance for you help
a frustrated Merrik

Hi - I have this same issue at my house and a few other locations, as does a friend of mine. I have also seen a handful of other posts around the Internet regarding this too.
I tested another V800 at my house with R1J firmware that worked 100% fine, but even though I have upgraded my own firmware to R1J it does not seem to have helped.
Have you had the phone since launch? are you in a 3G or 2G service area? I have the problem right now with 4 bars of 2G service, but my suspicion is the very weak 3G signal nearby is interfering with it somehow. I cannot make or receive calls and just hear 3 beeps when I try, and after a while either "no access to network" or a phone with a red cross over it is displayed.
I have only been living here for 3 weeks, but had no problems at all in 2+ months preceding this.
Any information is welcomed, please post here if you are having the same issue.

I have exactly the same problem. I purchased my phone here in Japan on a Vodafone 3g contract.. and it has been working fine for over a month. I also went overseas (Thailand, Singapore and Australia) and it roamed without issue.
I then unlocked the SIM lock on my phone.. and since then, it's been having network issues (especially outside of Japan). When outside of Japan, I VERY often receive the 'No Network Access' message, and also the picture of the phone with the red cross on it. I also find that if I turn my phone off and on, it'll sometimes connect to the network, and then drop out after a short while.
Not sure if removing the SIM Lock was just a coincidence, or the cause, but considering most other people DON'T have this problem, I'm guessing that some of us have a bad batch of phones. I'm planning on taking mine back to the Vodafone store in Japan to swap it over (if they'll let me swap it over!).

I have exactly the same prob
my phone shows 'no access to the network' when i'm at home (2G area) and it works prefectly fine at 3G area
i've sent back my phone to vodafone for a repair, and waiting...............
where can i read other case of the same prob?

I got my V800 last friday, and have the same problem. I called customer service and they told me to go to a Vodafone store so that they could return it to SE. It really pisses me off that I get a phone on friday, have to spend the whole weekend waiting for a new sim card, only to discover that the sh*te doesn't work anyway.
I can tell you that I'm not going to leave that store before I have a working phone in my hand. Mine or another.
Posted by Gunslinger
Just want to give you an update. I packed my brand new V800 into the box and drove off to the Vodafone store. Once there the salesman assembled it to try it it and voilá it worked fine.
As there was nothing wrong with it I brought it home again, and it has been fin the full 30 min I have been home.
Posted by Gunslinger
And now the problem is back. I called customer service and after a few checks they narrowed it down to a faulty firmware (big surpise...). I was advised to call the Vodastore tomorrow to see if they can upgrade the firmware.
Posted by Detellis
Sorry to hear about that Gunslinger....
I now have back in my possession a working V800 and my own faulty V800 which cannot make calls from my house. Looking through the service menu ( accessed by > * < < * < * on the phone keypad, under 'Service Info' then 'Software Info') there appears to be a slight difference. As I say, I upgraded to R1J, but there is a section under here titled as 'Customization'. My V800 reads as :
CDA102295/7 R20A
cxc 125840 R1J002
EU6_VA
On the working V800 it has R30A at the end of the first line. Anyone have any idea how to extract the customization from one phone and copy it to another?? The Sony Ericsson update service tells me I have their latest s/w....

Good for you Detellis, I have not had the same luck. I managed to nag enough on the salesman in the Vodastore to get a new phone (just in order to rule out any hardware failure). Of course this handset didn't work either, so I called customer service and they didn't have a clue so they passed me on to SE support here in Sweden. Their advice was for me to go to a SE service point and have the very latest FW installed, I don't remember the number, but it ended with 025 I think. Of course, this didn't work either so I called Voda support, but all they could do is credit me for my costs of driving 200 km to and from the Voda store. Tomorrow I'm going to try
the SE support again.
Does anybody here know if this problem is due to the Vodafone branding? I.e. would unbranding the handset fix it?
I asked the SE support, but berely saying the word unbranding made the support guy uncomfortable. He didn't know as the firmware for Z800 "was not yet available" (yeah right...).
Well thats all for now. Will keep posting to let you know how this developes.
Edit: Forgot to mention that I now can choose from GSM and 3G or GSM only. Running GSM only works, but that kind of ruins the point of a 3Gphone...

Hi guys!
New info on the no network problem. Seems like the problems are with my locla 3G antenna, and not with my phone! After having done som field studies, it seems that the phone does switch between 3G and GSM, everywhere, but in my own house (and about 1km radius from it.) I told Vodafone and they are going to check the mast/antenna as soon as the easter holidays are over.
Posted by Tahir Ally
I was going to buy a V800 in South Africa when it will be available in April 05 but with all these problems my second option will be SHARP 902.I hope these bugs will be fixed soon
Posted by Detellis
Have just updated the firmware to R1S025 through the SEUS but the problem still exists. The customization still reads as:
CDA 102295/7 R20A
As I mentioned, the working V800 that I have borrowed has R30A at the end. It also has the 'GSM/3G networks' option under 'Mobile Networks', although this is set to 'GSM and 3G', not 'GSM only'. I am assuming that the newer customization on this V800 is the reason it works perfectly.
I could send my phone back, but then I will no doubt receive a unit which is set back to factory defaults and I will have lost all of my messages, contacts etc. I am trying to avoid this, it's the sole reason I have put up with this problem for over a month now.
I wonder if SE will eventually change the update service to include this newer customization....
Does anyone know if SETool be used to copy the customization from one phone to another without losing my messages & contacts?

In South Africa we only have the Motorola E1000 VODAFONE BRANDED.It has problems like whats being mention on this forum with the V800.This could be a VODAFONE BRANDED FAULT
Posted by Gunslinger
In the ongoing saga of my faulty V800 Vodafone techs now say that there is no problem with the 3G net. So I am now stuck between SE customer service that say that there is nothing wrong with the handset and Voda that say that nothing is wrong with the net.
Wonder if unbranding the phone would fix it...
Posted by gbrooks3
It fixed my No Network problems.......
Posted by Gunslinger
Why does this not surprise me? Not only does Vodas menues look crapy, they have spent more energy on postcards, Live! and what not than they spent on stuff that is actually necessary for the phone to work!
That does it. If I can get my local unbrander to rebrand my V800 if the sh*te doesn't work as a Z800, then I'm going tu unbrand it and, hopefully, live happy ever after.

u mean 'No network' or 'No access to network'??
Posted by Bobajobbob
Strange that I shoudl see this thread today having experienced "No Access to Network" last night and this mornign at home. I had come to the conclusion that the phoen was broken in some way and yet this morning as I walk out fo the hosue and around the corner of the street it jumps back to life?!?
Could this be related in some way to Wifi signals or interference from a home appliance? Even as I say that I know it is false because the phone has been fine at home for the past 2 weeks. I can only assume that they were working on an antenna somewhere yesterday which caused the weakened signal but under those circumstances then surely the phone should have logged onto another network?
Posted by Gunslinger
As far as wifi is concerned I don't think that is your problem. The SE tech i spoke to said that they had wifi at their office and nobody had any network issues. Then again they say that they haven't heard of the problem at all...
Posted by Bobajobbob
Just to add to the comments I made above. I noticed that the problem has carried over to my office also but only to the extent of dropping calls. I do nto have the Network access error but twice in the past couple of minutes I recieved a call and having started the conversation the other party was cut off even though the phoen indicated recpetion was present. I am also in an area of central london where there most definitely isn't an issue with recpetion. It seems to me to be a switching issue between 3G and the normal network and I have selected GSM only for the time being and will see if that helps.
Posted by Detellis
At my house, I cannot use the phone at all. If I leave and walk about 10m up my front path, then it works fine.
The working V800 that I borrowed interferes with my speakers when I make a call indoors, as you'd expect. My own V800 is silent even when held right next to the speaker whilst making a call....it doesn't seem like it's even trying to dial out. It can see the 2G network and I have 4 bars of service.
I don't have the option to select 3G or GSM, even though I have R1S025 firmware. From what I hear selecting GSM will solve the problem, but the borrowed V800 I have has that menu option and doesn't require me to change it in order to make a call.
Bob, would you mind posting the software information under the 'Customization' heading in the service menu? should be three short lines of info, mine reads:
CDA 102295/7 R20A
cxc 125840 R1S025
EU6_VA
The borrowed (working) V800 has:
CDA 102295/7 R30A
cxc 125840 R1J002
EU6_VA
I upgraded my V800 from R1J to R1S over the weekend.

I tried updating to see if that would help.
I now have

Same issue is still present.

You have the R30a customisation that I thought I needed to resolve the problem. Have emailed SE support a few times, they suggested I call their service centre. I called them and was informed that 'they are not technical' in the call centre, and gave me a number at Sony Ericsson!!
I am against sending the phone away to anyone who doesn't fully understand the problem as I'm sure I will just receive another faulty handset back in return.
I was thinking of using something like SEtool, Davinci or TMS to change the software on my phone. Would welcome any recommendations on which to use, and if it's possible for me to extract the software from my working V800 using any of the above in order to copy it to my own V800.
Can anyone tell me if I need to buy a new cable, or does the stock V800 USB cable do the job?
Thanks,
Posted by Bobajobbob
Given that I have the same software as your working phoen I am nto sure it will help mate. I updated my software via the USB cable and the Update Program.
What is very strange to me is the random element involved. My phoen certainly didn't suffer like this when I first bought it. It is only now about a month later that this problem has manifested itself. I jsut wonder if it is anything to do with something I have installed or a change I ahve made from the default settings. I may try resetting everything and removing my Memory card to defaults to see if it makes any difference.
Posted by Bobajobbob
I just popped my SIM card into my old 6600 (which incidentally never won any prizes for recpetion) and it has full 5 bar reception sitting here. The V800 on the other hand has No Network Access.
This phone unfortuately would seem to have developed a rather terminal but subtle fault. The reception is quite simply useless. I am pretty sure that is a recent occurence or it cold be that I just never noticed when I first picked up the phone.
Certainly this individual phone has diabolical reception and is going back on monday.
Posted by Detellis
Are you taking it back to a Vodafone store? please let us know how you get on.
At the moment I'd be happy just to add the '3G/GSM Networks' option under 'Mobile Networks' to be honest. Having to change it would not be ideal (as the other V800 doesn't require me to), but at least then I wouldn't have to play pass the SIM every time I want to make a phone call.
Posted by Bobajobbob
One master reset later and it still doesn't work properly. I think we have faulty phones guys.

I have the choice of GSM/3G and GSM only on my phone and it doesn't make any difference to my reception here. Even though I can see a couple of bars of GPRS, though even that signal is intermittant, and with GSM only selected I still have No network Access.
Oh well back to my trusty 6600 tomorrow. So far my experience of 3G and of SE has been less than spectacular.
Posted by Gunslinger
When I change from GSM/3G to GSM only my no network-problem diappears. I have (seemingly) full GSM/3G reception, but get three beeps when I try to call. When I change to GSM only it all works fine...
Posted by Gunslinger
@gbrooks3:
unbranded my V800 today. Really nice new icons and so on, but my no network problem remains unlike you. Funny thing about it. If I start a call and drive home, I will stay connected. However, if I hang up and try to call I get the three beeps. I still get 100% GSM and 100%3G coverage.
Does anybody have a clue to what the problem is. Either the two handsets I have tried are really f*cked up, or Voda has some serious problems with the 3G network in my area...
Posted by Bobajobbob
They took away my old phone today and replaced it with what looks like a second hand one...Mmm great. They also failed to include a battery so now I'm waiting for a new battery to arrive. With this kind of luck what are the chances that this replacement doesnt work either?
Posted by sevastos
Vodafone f***** this phone totally!!!
Can you imagine how perfect would it be if SE had released this phone as a Z800 from the beggining???
Posted by paulobrasil
To upgrade, and to transform the v-800 in a z800, it is very easy, and to be liberated once and for all of vodafone. One already has it the cable T28 unlock it only spends 9 Eurus. You can upgrade oline in www.chollomovil.com

OK, here is some new info regarding the no network issue. I tried a friends SIMcard from another operator and guess what? Everything worked fine! In my V800 flashed to Z800 using Vodafone I get the three beeps. With another operators SIM everthing is dandy. Conclusion: Vodafone needs to get a tech to have a look at the antenna that serves my area.
Posted by Bobajobbob
Have you tried your sim in a non 3g phone? If I switch to a my old 6600 with my sim I get perfect connectivity. With my v800 nothing. I ahve a new handset now but can't use it because they sent it to me without a battery and of course noone stocks the things because of the vodafone exclusive contract so I am sitting here waiting for Vodafone to send me another...zzz

i have had no trouble with my v800 what so ever.. i think you guys should stop messing around with the software, and stop trying to unbrand and upgrade.. use the phone as it came..if its no good send it back and get another type of handset.
have you ever thought..maybe vodafone dont want you messing with their baby!!
Posted by Bobajobbob
I have made no effort to unbrand my phone. It just doesn't work so it is either my handset or a problem with Vodafone 3G itself.

Hey, relax mate! What are you trying to prove here??? That you are the smart and "good" guy and all the others are stupid? Messing around? What everyone does it's his and only HIS business!!! Now, when someone needs sth, this is the right place to look for answers. If you don't like the topic, just ignore it, don't try to be the "smart" one here. Anyway, welcome to Esato!!! I see that this was your first post. What a great way to start!!! And by the way, the baby's "daddy" is the one who pays for it...

Just when people were saying Esato was becoming boring ...
This really isn't a good attitude to have on here, or any mobile forum to be honest. The members of mobile forums tend to be geeks and techies, we like modifying our handsets. As a point of interest, network branding is also software modification; the networks alter the firmware and install their own modified versions of it. Perhaps it is the networks who should leave SE's 'babys' alone?

@redmott
I was new here too, but I respected the older or even the newer members. You have an attitude problem. I have the V800 since November and you have no right to tell me or anyone else what to do with my phone! Esato is a place where you can ask for help, give advices, talk for whatever you want, for the keyboard of your old cell phone, or even for your girlfriend's panties if you want to, BUT YOU CAN'T CRITICISE the other members in way like this, especially if that's your first post!
Posted by scotsboyuk
I think the chap has gotten the message now, let's just welcome him to Esato and hope that he settles in.
Posted by Vlammetje
great to see how the seniority argument keeps coming back
Stiop pounding on every person who happens to have a mind of their own, software flashing and debranding isn't exactly the 'holy grail' of phone owner ship.
besides, in functionality there really is very little difference between the firmwares, it's mostly cosmetic changes and relocation of certain links, rather than completely omitting them. the real big downer on branded software is usually the locking of internet profiles... other than that it really isn't all that big a deal.
The guy has a point though, generally speaking phones are modified to be optimised to work with the networks services...... in other words unbranding it won't necessarily make it better.
I'll give you one example of what I've seen on my unbranded V800
With Vodafone software on it I could log in on esato lite and remain logged in, read my PM's, post replies and so on and so forth.
With unbranded
software I can no longer remain logged in, I have the same problem as I have experienced on every other unbranded
phone I've owned before and esato lite is once again beyond my reach.
Moral of the story: there's downsides to every software, even the 'holy' unbranded original
software.
Now let's try and have a civilised conversation about this shall we?
Posted by scotsboyuk
@Vlamm
That's as may be, but posting in a mobile phone forum full of phone geeks and suggesting that they not do things like modify their firmware is akin to to asking a Trekkers not to wear pointed ears.
I think the chap has realised that people here are intereted in such topics (the firmware, not the ears) and, whilst entitled to his views, the majority here don't share them.
I think this discussion would benefit from getting back on track.

@bobbajob
There is nothing wrong with my SIM. I tried it in an 2G handset and it works fine. The thing is, I have full reception, both 3G and GSM. I just can't make any calls. Whenever I try to I get the three beeps. If I switch to GSM only it works fine, using the Voda SIM.
When I tried another operator in my newly liberated V800 it worked fine with 3G as well as GSM in the same place as Vodafone gave me the three beeps. The only conclusion I can draw from this is that there is something wrong with the network in my area. This is what I have told Vodafone when I called them to tell them to get their shit together and stop giving me the run around.

My new battery finally arrived at work so by tomorrow night I will have a better idea as to whether it is Vodafone 3G causing the problems or whether it was a individual handset problem.
Posted by Bobajobbob
OK so finally I have my new (second hand) handset and a new battery and it seems to be working! I am sitting at home with reception! I haven't run extensive tests but all seems well and if I choose GSM only there is a noticeable difference with this handset in that it is actually connecting to the GSM network
The only bummer now is that I just realised that the second hand hand set that they replaced my 2 week old phone with has a dodgy volume button....doh. Life is too short to moan about that but double doh all the same.
Posted by Gunslinger
Then it works as well (or as bad) as mine does. GSM only at home and 3G/GSM everywhere else. I'm going to call Voda tomorrow as it is then one week since I reported the faulty network in my area.
