Tiny, hands on, mini review of the K750

I've just seen the K750 for real!
I've been at the Norwegian network supplier NetCom's Kick Off for 3G and got to see it, try it and got a picture to proove it.

The picture is taken with YoMan's K700 with the light on and the light from a Z800 from above in a dark room. (Yep! Got to see the Z800 as well )
I got a couple of minutes with this buty and I am WELL IMPRESSED!
First impression was way above what I'd expected.
It's light and slim. It's a fraction slimmer than the K700 but the square shape makes it feel slimmer than it actually is.
The screen is crystal clear and the menus are well known to us all.
The buttons are nearly level with the front panel but still easy to use.
The feel of the phone is pure quality.
The lence cover slides to the side with a gentle move and feels really classy. If you've ever tried the Samsung D500 you know how gently the phone slides apart when you open it up; That is exactly the same feel the lence cover on the K750 has to it.
The connection at the bottom is indeed different than what we've found on the other phones. It reminds me a lot of the old Ericsson two pin connection.
I was not too happy with the looks of the K750 when I saw the pictures but when I got to see the real thing I changed my mind.
I can't wait to get my paws on this buty then it hits the shelves.
Downsides?
Nah, not now. Now I'm only exited to have seen and tried the new K750!

was it easy to use were the menus fast

Posted by tranquil
Yes, the menus were fast and it was easy to use.
It's limited how much you get to check in a very limited time though.

Very Very lucky.

Whats the screen quality like compared to the K700i?

Posted by david1975
many thanks

Posted by tranquil
@PeterKay
It's been some time since I used the K700 but it looked better to me.

Posted by PeterKay

Guess u didn't get time to try camera laffen? ;-) what colour does the keypad light up as.! Purple is it?

Posted by whizkidd
Who was the guy who had the phone with him?

Posted by tranquil
Laffen wasn't there so he missed out on it.

I honestly can't remember the colour on the buttons. I think they were white but don't quote me on that.

The guy who had the phones with him was a chap from I've never seen before. I was too busy asking him questions about the phone to ask exactly who he was. Couldn't really care less who he was when I was holding the phone in my hand. I know YoMan asked but didn't regitser the answer.

I'll see YoMan at work today and share experiences with him to bring them on to you guys.

It was over in just a few minutes so him and me together might be able to share more with you and answer more questions.
He is a hard core techfreak whilst I look more at the looks so we'll have noticed different things. He was still there when I left so maybe he got a 2nd look at it whilst I was too busy getting home to share this with you.

how exactly did you meet this bloke with it?

Posted by vineet_d
I really want to know if they have finally managed to mute the shutter sound

Posted by whizkidd
Vineet, the shutter sound seems to be a legal requirement in some countries.

Posted by blackspot
Thanks for the mini review @tranquil! did you try playing any sounds?

Posted by tranquil
OK
I've just had a chat to YoMan:
He agree with me in the first post here and has the same view as me to the quality of the phone.
As I said he checked out a few other things than me;
The Activity button at the center above the screen brings up the latest activities for the phone: Call list, messages, calender and tasks.
He confirms that the light in the buttons are indeed white.
He allso got to try out the radio: The hands free are still required as an areal and it only takes one press at the Music Key on the side to activate the loudspeaker. So no more fiddling in the menues to activate it.

On the question of who this guy withe the phone were: He is a freelance that uses to bring proto types to show off at differnt dues like the on I was at last night. (I want that job!!!)
We just happened to see the bloke. I walked hast him and cought a glimse of the Z800 and thought HEY! what was that. Wakled back and quite right; he had the Z800 AND the K750. So; "how exactly did you meet this bloke with it?" I just happened tu "stumble" over him.

We didn't get a chance to chech the shutter sound on the camera. Sorry...

Posted by Davo_169
the speaker button sounds kool, hopefully is the same during a call too..

Posted by tranquil
Perhaps. We never got to make a call with it.

Posted by YoMan
The new port at the bottom is really an USB-interface we were told, but they choose not to go with an mini-usb (like the Z/V800 and K600) because itīs not sturdy enough for a sync station for instance.
It wouldnīt hold the phone in place, mini-usb is too small.

Tranquil, I do envy you Wish I was at your shoes!
Good work!

Posted by tranquil
No need to envy me my shoes mate

Posted by PeterKay
Tranquil, you must admit you are a very lucky person
When do you think you'll get your hands on a W800

Posted by tranquil
Yes, I admit I was lucky last night.
When I wrote the first post I was so exited I had to edit the post a couple of times. It was quite rush being able to play with a phone everyone has heard about but hardly anyone has seen.
The party after the Kick Off lasted all night but I couldn't care less. I had to get home and tell all of you about it. I felt like a kid who just got a new toy and wanted to show it to everyone.

Posted by mustafabay
Actually your not that lucky tranquil after all you only got to try it for a few minutes. The lucky guy is the one that let you try it. I don't think would be very interested in you for that job since they obviosely have someone in your country already, however I doubt they have any in Egypt and whenever their interested they should let me know I would promise not to let out any sensitive info and to only tease you guys here at Esato with the slightest amounts of info possible, which would be enough to make a lot of people here drooooooooool

@mustafabay
OK, let me refraze myself then; I was lucky to meet the lucky guy with the phones.

Posted by govigov
my god you have big hands

the phone looks cool. is it full plastic?. why didnt you get more pics
how is the 262k scrren, is it very diff from the k700 one? did you ask about batt life. what frimware did it have? anything like the week of production? why didnt you take a pic using the k750 and transfer it to your phone? god, you could have done lot of things! and all you bring back is a itsy bitsy photo

Posted by Chazzer3
Wow, @tranquil, you are seriously lucky, I had a bad feeling that the lens cover would be tacky, and like flick open! But to hear that it is really smooth, that is promising!!!

Cheers, and PS: U lucky Bast......

@govigov
I promise you mate; On the way home I was thinking just that! "Oh no! I should have checked this, that and the other out!"
About only getting one picture of it; I was lucky to get that single picure.
The screen was very clear. As I said earlier it's a while since I used a K700 but YoMan uses one every day and said the screen is much clearer than the K700s'.
I didn't ask about the battery life, no.

Having had the phone in my hand gives the "old" pictures we've all seen a totally different meaning now. I can relate what I see to what I saw and touched.
The K750 I looked at crashed and had to be rebooted by taking out the battery. That gave me a glimse of how tiny it is.
Look at these two pictures.

That is not with and without the SIM card cover, it's with and without battery!
As you can see from the same two pictures the lence cover is aliminium. That might be what gives it that "classy" feeling when sliding it open. The rest of the is plastic but without a plasticy feel.

It's funny actually; I saw the phone, for a few minutes, nearly 24 hours ago. But as I write, think back and look at the pictures of it, tiny little things and details keep comming back to me.

Anyone else who has seen the K750 in real life?

Posted by djordje1yu
So, when is it going to be released? After CeBIT, or at the end of March?

Posted by jack00
what i have heard is that they will release it in may for 125(+contract) in germany - don't know the other markets

"Anyone else who has seen the K750 in real life?"

No, not interested. But thank you for your information. It's nice to see that SE is improving and enhancing a very successful lineage of phones, but personally I will probably be looking for a 3G+EDGE phone the next time.

The fact that the K600 and the Z800 do not seem to support EDGE, will make me look at other brands too. Your report that SE have completely changed the connector at the bottom of the phone, removes the need to count my current investment in accessories into the equation.

I guess Nokia will be supporting both 3G and EDGE this year. The fact that they are putting the Python programming language into several of their phones is great for the way I want to use phones. The downside is the fact that they do not seem to support home firmware upgrade.

Motorola is coming back to my country now. The Razr V3, to me has the best mobile phone design in the past year, it is a pity it's so low on features compared to e.g. the K700. Motorola is selling PDA-phones built on Linux. If they provide access to the command line or otherwise make it possible to move open source software into the phone, I will be studying these very carefully before I buy my next phone.

I like it when someone turns around and say; no, I don't like it. Imagine how boring the world would have been if we all had the same taste.

Colsed for continuation here.
