No-one in Kimi's place would have given up the chance of winning the race, no matter how worn the tyres. Top marks to Alonso for applying sufficient pressure to force Kimi into driving too fast on a dodgy R/F tyre. Surely this years tyre regulations make racing more dangerous?

Is Williams ever going to teach Webber how to get his car off the line quickly. His qualifying times are great but he loses at least 2 positions each race from a poor launch. This probably contributed to his 1st corner incident at Nurburgring.

I hope BAR manage to score some points this season.

Posted by BOSSHOGG
Oh dear, silly mistake from button to throw away his race. I'm glad the alonso is out, keep the championship close.

Posted by nitesh
Hey kimi is on the 1st position:-o. And fors schumi fans he is on 3rd.

Posted by BOSSHOGG
Woohoo! Schumi is 2of now that montoya got a black flag for exiting the pit under a red light. And it could be raining soon! Go MS :-)

Posted by Gigs
Sure I say to myself.. Record the race...
Stay way from the paper..
Enjoy it when I get home..

Sleepily listen to the sports news while driving into work.

GAAAAH!

Still should be a good race to watch when I get home none the less.

Posted by BOSSHOGG
Heh! I feel your pain. I had the contender spoiled for me on ceefax last week. The final ain't on normal tv till this friday. I'd like to think this is the start of a ferrari comeback, but realistically they got lucky with other peoples misfortunes.

Posted by tombadier
What do you all think of todays race...

I think it is shocking. They had all that time and they could not come to a suitable arrangement.

Posted by Cornholio_666
DAMN THE FIA for not putting in that chicane!
DAMN MICHELIN for bringing crap tyres!

Posted by zMastaa
omg even withought "real" competition schumi still might not win lol

Posted by Cornholio_666
i'll laugh my head off if schumi's tyre exploads... damn the ferraris nearly took each other out, if only they did...

Posted by Elrond
that isn't normal. stupid fia, damn michelin. shame on them. it's so a boring race. i don't watch it, so could pls someone tell me if there are any visitors on the race? i heard they left it in huge masses

Posted by Cornholio_666
theres still a few people still there

Posted by BOSSHOGG
Ferrari are being childish not agreeing with that chicane, you can blame michelin but ferrari having been breaking the testing limit miles all year. They were the only team not to agree on a chicane! RB's tyres will be a mess after that.

Posted by Cornholio_666
ferrari don't like competition they probably see this race as their only chance to catch up to alonso and raikonnen in the points

Posted by Rookwise
The race should not have gone ahead if all the drivers couldn't compete. Especially as there was a way to fix the situation and allow others to compete.

Posted by Cornholio_666
when stuff like this happens all of the teams agree to the solution except for ferrari.

Posted by BOSSHOGG
They have a right to though, but it all sounds very petty. We'll find out if it's true tomorrow i suppose. I'm happy to see then catch up myself. lol minardi will get more than a seasons worth of points in this race :-D they'll get a fair bit of cash from sponsors.

Posted by Cornholio_666
i think ferrari thinks the F in F1 stands for Ferrari. they think that they are above the regulations.

Posted by max99
can sum1 quickly sum up wats happened for me

Posted by BOSSHOGG
I don't blame ferrari, i blame the stupid no tyre change rule myself. If that wasn't there, this wouldn't have happened. Bottom line in football terms is, 6 teams turned up without any boots, you just don't do that.

Posted by Rookwise
Actually its was Jorden that said no which caused the 6 driver race.

Posted by BOSSHOGG
That's why i said wait till tomorrow, half of what we hear right now is probably rumours.

Posted by Rookwise
True. Wonder what the outcome will be.

Posted by ijefferies
Oh dear, not the best of adverts for F1. Guess we'll have to wait for the official statements before knowing exactly who said what.

Posted by BOSSHOGG
One thing's for sure, michelin don't have long left in f1. Then we'll be back on an even tyre field.

Posted by Cornholio_666
i think its good that theres different tyre manufacturers in F1. its a real shame that firestone gave bridgestone important information (and an unfair advantage against michelin), about the new diamond cut surface and its effects on tyres in indianappolis.

Posted by carkitter
@Cornholio 666

I agree, where's Pirelli and Goodyear when you need them?

Firesone own Bridgestone, why wouldn't they share information?
If they hadn't, Bridgesone would be in breach of it's tyre supply contract now, just like Michelin.
It's Michelin's job to know these things; heads will roll, make no mistake about that.

Much of the crowd stayed to watch the race. I bet they are now all queing for refunds. One man interviewed spent 2 months wages to travel to the track and buy the tickets.

Posted by BOSSHOGG
All fingers are still pointing at ferrari as the only team not to agree, but also f1 bosses(mainly max) who blamed michelin for being stupid enough to only bring one set of tyres. Which is fair enough.

Posted by carkitter
Hey some credit where credits due - good work Bridgestone!

Bridgestone's USA Grand Prix tyre must be the best tyre in history. Here's why:
A Indy Car Travels the oval at higher speed but does not need to cope with first gear corners in the infield. Therefore it doesn't require the high downforce of an F1 car. High downforce means increased load on the tyre sidewalls - a F1 car weighs 600kg when stationary but 3 times that at 300kph. Add in the rediculous '1 set of tyres per race' rule and the new abrasive Diamond-cut surface and it's no wonder an ordinary tyre from Michelin couldn't cope. The sidewalls on the Left Rear kept failing on the highest speed corner.

Bridgestone have been getting a hard time from Ferrari fans of late, now I reckon thier reputation is looking pretty good!

Posted by Cornholio_666
if every team but ferrari agreed they still should have put in that chicane, because it would have been much safer for everyone, the race would have been done properly and there would have been much more excitement. ferrari are only 2 cars so why does something not happen just because they are the only team to disagree?

Posted by carkitter
The FIA can't change the rules at the last minute to suit only some teams. That precedent would show F1 to be a joke. If a Michelin shod car had won then a Bridgestone shod team would had appealed.
So far the blame rests solely with Michelin.

hi i kinda missed the gp yesterday sounds very xciting wud ne1 mind giving me a brief overview of what i missed??? pls

Posted by Cornholio_666
all the michelin tyres were found to have a safety issue after ralf schumachers toyota crashed on the same corner he did last year. so michelin told the teams that use their tyres that they should not race because after 10/15 laps the tyres would fail. then a solution was found and 9 of the 10 teams agreed about putting in a chicane between turns 12 and 13 to slow down the cars by about 100mph for the last corner. suprise suprise ferrari disagreed with this so after the parade lap all of the michelin drivers came into the pits and retired leaving only jordan minardi and ferrari racing, thats all of 6 cars.

Posted by JK
no way!!!!
did shumi finally win?????

Posted by zMastaa
YER and he nearly got himself and barrichelo in a tangle on an incident when leaving the PITS

for the first few laps they were racing

and the funny thing is barrichello was in front just before the corner and schumacher would rather take them both out than slow down and pass later on

Posted by BOSSHOGG
The 7 teams are all being charged with bringing the sport into disrepute. Rightfully so by the sounds of it. They were all offered the chance to race at a reduced speed on the last turn, they were even offered the chance to change tyres and get a penalty. Instead they chose to cop out leaving the fans with nothing.

Posted by mad4mobiles
i know very dissappointing fgor michelin fans but great for ms

Posted by carkitter
@BOSSHOGG

Yeah, I saw that too. Further developments will be fascinating I'm sure. If the 7 teams are found guilty then Michelin may be 'of the hook' so to speak. BAR Honda are on a 6 month suspended sentence at present. Will the FIA enforce the sentence? I think that the sentence for 'Bringing the sport into disrepute' (coupled with the potential lawsuits that Bernie could face) could be quite devastating for all the Michelin teams!

Posted by BOSSHOGG
Yeah, i imagine bar will be in most trouble. Can't see anything except huge fines for the rest of the teams, a point deduction would be nice though *go ms* :-D

Posted by JK
the weaker teams are dumb, they could have raced and got some points for 7 and 8 place.... 1 or 2...

points equal money!!!!

Posted by peeta
i hardly think its their fault for not wanting to risk their lives. they also offered to race for no points but that was turned down.
personally though i think that'll be one of the last nails in the coffin for f1. too much greed, not enough sportsmanship or actual racing and too many rules means people stop watching and sponsers don't invest.

@peeta
F1 won't be dying anytime soon. BMW have just bought Sauber which means there are now 4 manufacturer owned teams. I think this is the future for F1. After this years deBARcle I'm sure Honda will either pull out completely or buy BAR and take control. Maybe Audi could bring the Lamborghini name back to F1 or enter itself (Audi can trace it's ancestry back to Auto-Union who competed in the 1930's with financial backing from Hitler).
As for Greed, this is the pinacle of Motorsport remember and requires the use of leading edge technologies, the best in management, construction processes, staff and equipment. The financial investment is MASSIVE as we all know and those who fail, do so on a worldwide scale. As such you can hardly blame people for wanting to win at all costs. I'm afraid the days of Phil Collins handing over his car to J.M. Fangio voluntarily are gone.
In regard to the rules I agree with you; the tyre, engine and qualifying rules have led to some unusual situations this year which has the public scratching thier heads and F1 looking more and more bizzarre...

doesnt VW own lambo???... and AUDI?

Posted by Cornholio_666
why the hell don't they just go back to the format they had when the bbc showed formula 1. they are going on about safety and the dry tyres they use now have less grip than slicks, and whats with the cut in downforce? ithink they want to make formula 1 more dangerous. also i hate itv because of the adverts every 15 minutes.

Posted by carkitter
@786KBR
Yes AUDI is part of the VW Group as is Lamborghini. But it was AUDI who purchased Lambo not VW and AUDI who appointed the Swiss designer who penned the Murcielago and Gallardo. Er, as far as I know.

@Cornholio 666
You're so right. How can F1 safety be improved by making tyre and engine replacements of limits, or reducing drivers time to get aquainted with a track?

At present the cars are powered by 3 Litre 18,000rpm normally aspirated V10's which the FIA predict will exceed 1000hp by 2007. They will then restrict capacity to 2.4 Litres. How good are these engine builders that they can produce a 310+ hp/litre engine?

Posted by JK
@ car

I know AUDI designed the new lambos, but should they get involved in f1 i doubt theyll run as AUDI or Lambo... i hope and assume it will be VW... versus toyota!!! that will be excitng!!

as for 1000hp - from a 3l v10, thats expected but it shud be more considering they use the best engineers in the world!!!

there are single T2 turbo GTI's (worked) that can easily reach 800-900kw!!!!!
and M3's(worked) (3l str6) that can make 750+kw...

assuming a f1 car is still around 750kw??

Posted by Cornholio_666
porsche should come back into formula 1 and so should lotus

Posted by carkitter
Neither Porsche nor Lotus have the budget to compete.
Ferrari live for F1, Mercedes are continuing thier proud tradition, BMW are competing with Merc, Both are positioning the road cars as high performance models ie E 55 AMG/SL 55 AMG/M5/M6. Honda and Toyota are both flush with cash, Honda loves F1, Toyota follows Honda (VVTi technology, IRL, now F1). Ford have pulled out, GM are in financial trouble, Nissan are owned by Renault, Chrysler are owned by Merc, Fiat obviously own Ferrari. The only option left is VW group.
Audi have had huge success in DTM, BTCC, Le Mans. I can't understand why they've let BMW/Merc get ahead in this area.
I dont think VW being in F1 will sell any extra Golf's. Perhaps it could help Bugatti to compete with Ferrari if VW entered through them, though I doubt that will happen.

Posted by carkitter
@786KBR
Hmm... It's not easy to get 8-900hp out of a turbo GTi, your talking alot of boost pressure there. In NASCAR thier compression ratio is so high that they weld the cylinder heads to the block. You'd need to do that to a 900Kw GTI...
700+ hp/Litre was possible from the 1988 McLaren Honda MP4/4.
310+ is pretty good for Normally Aspirated.
