Do you mean that though the SP5 has only a “b” module, it’s still capable of dealing with the “g” protocol? If that’s the case, and I understood you correctly, then that’s really good news, coz it blows the incompatibility issue, even if the speed is a little slower when the protocols relate to each other, but still it’s better than not relating at all.

Yes. So don't worry. It'll also be compatible with any future protocol using the 2.4GHZ band, at least I think so.

IMO, i find it useless to have wifi in smartphones like this one.....with no input method except the numerical keypad (the main problem of smartphones)..., just think about it...if u want to check ur email on hotmail....u'll have to type the following: www.hotmail.com, then username :something@hotmail.com, and pass :********.........man, that's what i call it PAIN...let alone typing an email message ...
the main drawback i think in such phone is lacking MS viewers.....now, even the new nokias have MS viewers + Adobe reader...

Posted by mahora
If you’d look a little step beyond, you’d see the main attraction and temptation to have wifi. It’s not internet, (as in addition to what you said, there’s the handicap of the small screen), but rather, you’d see SKYPE, that’s the main attraction.
However, skype still haven’t established itself well with such gadgets. For instance it’s not officially compatible with smartphones yet, although there are other ways of having it on them, yet it’s still sometime before it’s available normally on smartphones.

What about the favorites?

What about the pocket msn and the feature of saving your password and user name?

Also if you are on the run any way with wifi Smartphone I think it's good to have at least a small look to your e-mail for free

I agree with you and with every body about the MS Office viewer

But totally the SP5m is a great phone

Any way if any body needs to buy it in Egypt I'm offering it with full package used like new with memory card 256 MB for 2500 LE

Just call 0124730791 (my 3rd line)

And why are you selling it?

Posted by mustafabay
Yay! Its raining

Posted by deido
can't i get a black jam with that price; 2500 ?

Posted by mustafabay
Would anyone know the price of a new P910 nowdays?

Posted by deido
i don't know why r u into these UIQ phones ??
they are ok...but i think that finding software for them is a major drawback...u know u can find many windows and symbian software at any forum for free (fel share3 ya3ni)

Posted by mustafabay
Because I like SE phones and the bundled software will probably be enough for my own usage. I want a phone that can read pdfs and able to edit documents not much else. I'm actually considering the M600 too. I'm going to wait till I have the money. And battery life is important and windows phones aren't really well known for that, at least not the older ones. I will have a tight budget, I don't like S60 phones, I like the jog dial, and I don't think I'll die without a camera because my T630 camera is horrible( when you look at new phones) and missing the camera won't change much.

Posted by mahora
Is the M600 out yet? in Egypt I mean

Posted by mustafabay
No, neither is the P990. The first Symbian 9.1 phone to hit Egypt is the 3250. If you've seen my post in the general forum you'll know my screen isn't working and that I cracked my camera's lens. To tell the truth I thinking of the P990 now. For once and for all I'll get a phone that can last through anything. Ofcourse it'll take a while but in the end I shouldb be satisfied till past graduation and maybe even a year or two of work

Posted by mahora
What is the processor power of the p990?

Posted by mustafabay
What difference does it make, as long as it can run almost anything smoothly then its ok. It uses a philips processor named nexipeira(spelling?) that runs at 208MHz and has a special part for handling sound an graphics. Its not all about MHz though so comparing it with an imate wouldn't be fare espessially Symbian has always been lighter to run than Windows.

The reason I care about processor power is important if you look at a good-on-paper handset like the Nokia communicator 9500, that was supposed to be top notch since last year, and just look at the bad reviews and users comments it receivied, which seem really conflicting.
The reason as it may seem, could be attributed readily to the software, though Nokia is known for its stable s/w releases. After doing a little more research, I found out that such a function-rich set only uses a 150 mgh processor, can you imagine? This is due to of course to Nokia's scrooge policy, so they simply killed the 9500!

Posted by mustafabay
americany, Thanks, but as I said I'm really thinking more about the P990 now and I might want to buy the phone in Egypt but I won't forget your offer.
mahora, its more about processor power not speed. AMD on barely passed 3GHz but are easily as good as Intel processors. The processor of the P990 has special parts for sound and graphics so the main general part of the processor has its recourse available to othe stuff. And MHz isn't the important part, what matters is how applications work, if everything is smooth then for all you care it could be a 1MHz

Happy Easter&Sham el nessim to all
@ americany13
Egypt has fully functional GPRS service, and yes messengers do work as long as you have GPRS.
As for the p910, Mustafabay can answer any query in this regard coz he's the expert on SE phones

Posted by mustafabay
@mahora
I already did in a PM.
But anyways; if there is an UIQ version of the IM service then you can use it.

Posted by omardeneo
hi all

I'm selling the SP5m because as I said I like to change and I like my K-Jam and because I already got a new Motorola V3X

Anyone know if finding an old or new Ericsson R310 would be possible?

guys. i am really frustrated from SE in Egypt....they still sell the P910 for 4 thousands....WHY ???? i wonder how much would they sell the P990 when its released.......
i thought of getting it from Dubai or something as it would be cheaper....but someone told me it's no longer sold (being old.......)
i don't know why the dealer insist of torturing me...

Posted by deido
shabab......what do u think about the new nokia E series.... i am falling in love with the E70, have u seen it ? with a flip keyboard and wi-fi....do u know when will it be released ?

Posted by mahora
According to GSMarena, it's already available worldwide ( still not yet in Egypt) The price revolves around the equivalent of 3500 l.e.
One thing I noticed about this phone though. It was the last phone to be releaased from the E series. Both the E60 & E61 came out b4 it. Does that mean there were production problems, whether software or hardware related? I wouldn't junp to conclusions, but it's just an observation.
I think you'd better wait for a kinda reliable review from Eldar on MobileReview.

Posted by mustafabay
The E60 is available from i2 and I think the price is a little high. The E70 shouldn't be late. deido did you use a 8820 before because this is just a better and bigger version of it. If you want a P910 youshould look in alwaseet, I think last friday somebody was selling a new one or almost new plus a bigger memory stick for around 1900 if I'm not mistaken. You could always wait for the P990 which should be eventually available since the M600 is out now.

Mahora, why should I be in recyling? R310 was the last indistructable made or at least I think so, its the one that has a shark fin, as I've learned from esato, previousely I'd thought of it as a tounge.

Posted by mahora
Now I remember it. I had it mistaken with the one that looked like the 9110 communicator (top up).
Anyway there are several hardened up-to date phones now.

Posted by mustafabay
But none are like the R310. The hardened ones of today just have a rubber outer shell. R310 was the kind that could stay in maybe a meter of water for maybe up to half an hour.

Posted by mahora
Are you going scuba diving or something?

Posted by deido
@mustafabay
what's this 8820 ?? never heared of it before....it's not there on nokiamea.com nor mobile-review.....
do u have a link to it ?

Posted by mustafabay
6820, people do mistakes you know.

Posted by deido
oh yea i know this phone......but the E70 is much better......it's a bigger and better screen, it runs on symbian 9.1 and there's IR, bluetooth and Wi-fi.....with the keyboard and the 2.0 MP camera (although i don't care about the camera)i think they made a very good phone that satisfies anyone needs.... ( IMO )

Posted by mustafabay
Obviousely the E70 is better, almost any phone is better, the 6280 was a good idea which nokia executed horribley the screen was terrible too.

And mahora, do I have to go scuba diving to want the phone? I more would like it for two reasons, its super tough and its extremely rare in Egypt, I'm not suggesting I'd pay a lot for one, just that its nice to have something rare and unique.

Posted by americany13
Guys just did a mistake, I sold all my SE phones and got a K-jam,
the only thing I like about it is the Qweary board and the WIFI, and micro Card.
it makes SMSing and IMing easier thats all, I had the P910 but the board was two small and it wasnt stable, now i have a unstable windows phone with a bigger screen and board.

Posted by mustafabay
What do you mean all? You more than one SE for an iMate. And you say you made a mistake, well I wouldn't say your wrong.

BTW, BenQ or BS is selling the P50 in Egypt now, I saw an add in Alwasseet for it at 12x450=5400 which I find insane.

Posted by mahora
I wouldn't buy a Benq if it were offered for free at this very particular point of time. Not just yet. I think there's a lot of finetuning until they can just harmonize the Siemens legacy with the Benq infrastructure.
And Mustafabay, to be different and unique doesn't have to be weirdo. This phone must've weighed something like 250 grams, plus its weird, fish-fins looks.

Posted by mustafabay
It's shark fin mahora, SHARK FIN.

Actually the BenQ P50 is pretty good phone and the best thing is its WM5.0. Now I don't like windows that much but its a good thing in this case. Siemens always makes phone with crappy firmware and takes its sweet time to update it. WM5.0 meens stable software, I hope. And now P50 is PC Mag's Editor's Choice, plus it has GPS if it can be of any use in Egypt.

Posted by mahora
Ok Mr. Sharkie, or let's say JAWS
I've been in touch with WM5 for quite some time now on a JasJar, and I'd say I'm not that impressed. Truely it's feature-packed, but it takes a lot of getting used to just get acquainted with where everythinh is.
And another major problem took place. The sms inbox once reached the level of 1000 sms, and that was when all the trouble started. Hanging, refusal to send sms, and receiving any new sms were problems that were not totally fixed even after emptying the inbox to the level of only 100 sms and keeping it at that level.
I wonder if the same problem is faced with the WM5 smartphone Edition.

Posted by mustafabay
Really I don't understand why you would even keep 1000 SMS.

Anyways, anyone here going to swith to the new company when it comes out. Given the ridiculous amount of money they payed for the licence maybe they'll be giving out free phones with contracts they do seem to have the money.

Posted by mahora
Conspicuously the 1000 sms were not personal sms.
Etisalat is the one of the strongest contenders in the mobile market in the MENA region. They're just a couple of steps behind OT, after the latter's giant leap when it acquired Italy's Wind.
They do have that kind of money. And little by little we'll move to the package system in Egypt, linke in Europe, thanks to them.
2 important elements that will make their operation even more successful:
A- Internal roaming with existing operators
B- Number portability. If a customers goes to another company, they will take their dial with them.
Etisalat's entrance to the mobile market in Egypt is the second best thing that has ever happened to the Egyptian mobile market in Egypt, the first of course being privatizing the mobile sector, otherwise the number of subscribers wouldn't have exceeded 1.000.000 since 1998

Posted by deido
what's that packaging system ??
i am currently on mobinil on primo plan....it's ok, i only complain from the network......

Is anyone considering switching to Etisalat ?
