Calling international strikes a problem.

I have a Sony Ericsson K700i. Works perferect when I call people inside the USA. But I've noticed when I call to Europe, mostly England, I'm connect about 50 seconds, then my phone completly "blacks" out, it goes to this white screen for a min, then goes to "Searching for networks." I'm wondering what the cause of this might be, or a way to fix it? Thanks
