I am trying to set up my Ericsson R520 to send/receive Talk21 mail here in the UK.

I've set up the mail servers as in.talk21.com and out.talk21.com, but whenever I dial in from the phone I get a message saying 'server not found' . Does anyone know why this is, and if there's a solution.

Many thanks

similar to other new generation ericsson phones such as T68, you need
a) a DNS address in your data account used for email, or
b) put the ip addresses of the mail servers instead.

Thanks for the reply. I've now typed the server IP addresses in, and the phone now says 'finding server' and at that point it seems to end the call! Anybody got any other ideas what a lunkhead like me might be doing wrong?
Many thanks
Vince

Hi,

I'm using a standard dial up from the phone, not trying to go via WAP. The IP addresses I have are:

in.talk21.com: 194.73.242.51
out.talk21.com: 194.73.242.12

Thanks very much for that information hue st it up and it works really well, except for sending mail. Does anyone have any idea why it keeps telling of that the message has failed!

Yes, I'm dialing up through the BTopenworld/BTClick connection I can use for my Palm etc..I was hoping to leave the Palm, out, and do the mail directly from the phone (rather than just using the phone as a modem), but no luck so far!!!!

Try dialing up through wap without the palm. It works for me. Although it wont send :-[

I've tried dialing up via wap, but still no luck....it may be that this mail client and talk21 just don't work together!!

dialing through your isp you may need the isp's smtp address to send mail - thats if your receiving mail but cant send.

i use Genie payasugo and have no problems using Yahoo's pop & smtp settings via the 915000 number to send & receive - but i do have to use the IP addreses and not the mail server name.

note: to get any IP addreses just go to a dos window and type 'ping servername' - hit return.

Thanks for that. I guess i must just have the smtp server wrong. Ill check it out tomorrow to get the ip address. Cheers

Hmmm i just thought, do u have the right port numbers? I use 110 for incoming and 25 for out going.

Figure this out. I set up a 'hotpop' account last night, and it worked straight away, dialing via the same BTOpenwold number I was trying to use for the Talk21 account!!
What is different about Talk21 to hotpop that makes one work, and the other not?
