This will come as a shock but whilst passing a Vodafone store shop here in Tokyo I saw the Sharp V902,but the biggest shock was the camera lens..its actually a 1.3Mp camera as opposed to the UK 2Mp version.

So Japan got a raw deal?? well not quite I see they have released the SHARP V602 which has a 2Mp camera and is smaller and also has a few little tricks up its sleeve.. I will try and take a couple of pics today and post them later.

@themarques

From what I have seen, DoCoMo's FOMA range seems dominated by relatively low resolution MP cameraphones.

Posted by themarques
scotsboyuk The new range seems to have 2 and 3Mp cameras so hopefully that will continue all the way to when they hook up with O2.

@themarques

CPW were advertising a 3.2 MP cameraphone a few weeks ago, they said it would be launched sometime in February.

@scotsboyuk What make of phone was it?

yr info is not correct:

the v902sh has a 2 megapixel ccd camera. 2.4 inch qvga display.

the v802sh has a 1.3 megapixel ccd camera. 2.2 inch qvga display.

the v802sh was released AFTER the v902sh, which may have led to yr confusion.

both of the above fones are 3g dual mode, tri-band.

there is a non-3g fone called the v602sh which has a similiar form factor. the camera on the v602sh is 2 megapixel with an optical 2X zoom (a world's first in a camera fone); 2.2 qvga display.

all three of these fones are by sharp.

I wish that was the case, but I saw 902SH with my own eyes, and when I am next at a Vodafone store I will try and take a pic..

Niji is correct.
On my trip to Japan I saw that it was 2 mp.

You must have confused it with the other phone that looks VERY similar to it (802?)

Posted by scotsboyuk
@themarques

It was a Samsung.

Posted by themarques
@scotsboyuk Looks like we getting closer to 5Mp Oh that pre-mini is damn small I will post a comparison pic in a few seconds.

Posted by themarques
Ok this picture doesnt do it justice but yeah the pre-mini is small let me tell you that..

Posted by scotsboyuk
@themarques

That does look rather small.

What differences does the Japanese version of the V800 have?

Posted by themarques
No big difference, besides ithas jap language inout and they have all 3 colours. Plus I believe more smilies in it..

Posted by scotsboyuk
@themarques

All three colours should be available in the UK in the very near future.

Does it lack features in comparison with other Japanese handsets? Is the V800 popular in Japan?

Posted by themarques
V800 is NOT popular at all... I have seen maybe one or two guys holding them and they have all been old age pensioners... I think the most popluar is the AU W21SA

Posted by scotsboyuk
@themarques

I don't blame them for choosing the AU W21SA, it looks the bee's knees and it has an excellent range of features.

Have you bought a Japanese mobile yet?

Posted by themarques
Yeah I am using the AU one yo posted a pic off...I know it wont work in the UK but thats cool, as I dont plan on being back to long.

Posted by scotsboyuk
@themarques

How are you finding it, the mobile I mean? What are the services like?

Posted by themarques
Well the cool part is I have reception in some uderground networks..and I never seem to find the signal drop at all. The navigation thingy is excellent still tryin to get my hand around it.

The camera is a plus point though its 2Mp, and damn good for what it is...

Thats a Sony Quali TV..wow 4o inch and also 40,000 Pounds worth.

Sob sob my 6630 wont let me view that Au phone and that tv. Sob sob. Glad ur ok mate.

40,000gbp? Lol

v800 is not popular?

i think you are mistaken. according to vodafone webpage the 802se is the second most popular handset atm. you said that you only seen 1 or 2 people with the 802se (the v800). vodafone is not a popular service in japan. au and docomo are the most popular by far, so the fact that you havent seen many 802se is not surprising.

now im confused kuz it seems everyone on this board refers to both the 802se and v800 as a v800. sure they are the same (802se is of course japanese/english and uses DRM for mp3), but they need to be talked about properly.

now i dunno if you were talking about the UK... i couldnt tell you anything about that because i know nothing about it.

Posted by themarques
@Kevbodian Dont get so worked up, we all know what we mean anyway so dont fuss.
