So, it gonna be the NEC or the T300 .... I have about RM1000 to blow on these cool gadgets...

Posted by yapliren
@sanjeevjaya
if you planing to get a notebook, then don't waste the money to buy a pocket pc. Most properbly it will end up in store room because of the size and weight. Two of my friend end up of using pocket pc because of too bulky.

Posted by ShawO
and i thought sanjeevjaya was a guy's name

Posted by yapliren
seem like most of us also student. Can intro ? I am 19 male from cyberjaya. how about other ?

Posted by wrecked_porsche
MALE 18 guy from Subang.

Posted by wrecked_porsche
ShawO what u mean with ur statement?

Posted by veon18
Yes, if u think of practical means, go get a laptop, but just ensure the size of the laptop is small enough to be considered convenient, and u do have to think about the weight plus the notebook bag coz u wont be carrying just a notebook nakedly, it will get concussions here and there......
For us who had already owned a laptop, having a PDA boasts the usability of both PDA and the laptop multiple times

YEAP, yapliren is right, i find myself using most of the palm these few days rather than my laptop, due to it's size, weight and too heavy of applications which i think is too much of my basic usage. For eg. i was in a taxi and i hope to finish my remainder documents b4 i get to the class and also send some emails, i certainly dun wan to carry a laptop and on it on my lap and then wait for it to 'beep...' waiting for my winXP to load, another reason is i find it very inconvenient to carry such heavy thing around and certainly it will occupy one of my hands contrastly my PDA fits my pocket well, also taking such bulky laptop out and have it on my lecture hall desk is too much..hehhe....the only usage of my laptop is to sync with my Palm

21, a medical student in KL ,running from hospital to uni back and forth and that's why i need a Palm, rather than on a laptop in front of my patient's bed

cheers

Posted by scrreech
I tried ZboxZ... but I dunno what to do with it. Having probs... what are the files that I need to sync into my PDA??? And do I need to install any prgms to my PC? Need help

By the way, is it possible to type .doc documents and making Powerpoint with PDA? I know we can view them but can we actually do them?

I personally think that a laptop is better. I've been eyeing on the ibook (the slim white one) for quite sometime

Posted by wrecked_porsche
Hmmm... Laptop doesnt sound that bad afterall :-* ... Just depends on how we wanna use it.......

Posted by sfarieq
Oh too bad no t68 covers are being sold here in Sabah.

Posted by veon18
yeap, u just cant compare laptops and PDA, it's like comparing canggih canggih comp system and laptop, definitely there's a significant price difference between the two

Posted by wrecked_porsche
Yah, the weight oso different.. Cangih oso heavy what...

Posted by gilthoniel
just sync ZboxZ.prc....forget about the rest if u wan simple stuff.... if u wan u can just play wif it. Read the doc there.

then make sure u keep winbox and winunbox properly.... these are needed to "box" files into palm databases to be synced into your palm

can't find mcfile in palmgear either.... mmm where did it go....
ok, found it here : http://www.jade.dti.ne.jp/~imazeki/palm/McFL/index-e.html

OK, who wants to ply with P800? Go to Midvalley and catch the SE roadshow there.... i was there today and i played wif the prototype... Damn cool! =)

Veon, which uni u in? me med student too. Studying in IMU... 2 yr student now.

Posted by veon18
hey gil! we are from the same uni! thanks again for the McFile
IMU Bukit Jalil, doing 5th semester now!howdy!
Just one question, after i box the files ,i noticed the gif files changed to .pdb, and do i beam the .pdb files like that to the T68i or do i have to unbox it in my palm (ermm..dunno how) and then only send it to T68i as .gif?

let's just put it this way
desktop --- very practical, high specs but no degree of mobility, affordable

laptop --- moderate specs with a moderate degree of mobility, and not so value for money for lighter and higher specs unit

palmtop --- low specs with very basic functions, not so value for money also purchasing greater specs palm but extremely versatile and convenient

scrreech:u dun have to install anything on ur pc, but in the instruction u just have to register some oe of the .dll files, then the other .pdb files from the zboxz just sync it to ur palm

Posted by wrecked_porsche
Can u give more info bout the roadshow ? Got T300 there or not ?

Posted by yapliren
@scrreech
the program name as Document To GO. Most new palm pda will include this as a freeware in the cd-rom.

As a design student, I hook heavily with my powerfull 2.53 ghz desktop + broadband. So laptop should be useless for me. Altough I consider palm m105 as bulky but I did take it along with me everyday for more then 1 and half year. It's too useful for me to record short notes or some reminder. It also recorded all of my friends contact and my timetable. Now I can handle my time more efficiency.

Posted by scrreech
There's a hig possibility that the T300 is out in SG!!! Cost abt SGD$498 for a 2-year contract with Singtel. Damn! Too expensive... The specs seem ok except that it doesnt have bluetooth But the great side is that the price includes the MCA 25!!! Shld I get it??? Sell my T68 & buy that??? Or do I wait for P800???

Posted by yapliren
i wish to sell my t68 too but hardly get high price in malaysia. How much do you think i able to sell it? It look 95% new and the screen is 100% no scretch. Or anyone wish to buy it from me, still got a month warranty. I wish to use back 8250 cause I can use it rudely. hahaha

Posted by veon18
wow..if the price includes the MCA-25 ,then wht are u waiting for? will buy it if i am in ur position, and better make use of the free MMS before the promotion fades out
if not mistaken,u told me b4 u use infrared with ur palms not having bluetooth wont worry u,right?

yapliren:yea, i dun think selling it is a good idea,i know ppl selling 2nd hand units at around rm650( warranty period just over)

Posted by yapliren
now only i know it's not cheap to send ringing tone to singapore. almost rm2.50 for 4 ringtone send by sms

Posted by wrecked_porsche
Get the dang T300 !! What u waiting 4 ? Cun phone lah!!

Posted by scrreech
gilthoniel: The McFile is great... I was able to backup all my picts, MMS & ringtones there. BUT the downside is that can only use for 30 days!!! And... as dumb as I may sound... I still dunno how to use the ZboxZ I did 'box' my .gif files into a .pdb but (1) I was unable to see the picts & (2) I am unable to beam the picts to my T68 from my PDA... Pls enlighten me~

yapliren: If I do want to sell my T68, it will probably worth abt SGD$380 the most... But I'm still thinking if I shld sell it or not. I think that it's the ultimate phone ard! No doubt abt that! Why do u want to go back to 8250???

veon: I do use infrared from PDA to T68 but I use bluetooth to transfer stuff (calender etc...) to my bf's T68. I have another T39 which I refuse to sell away.. and that lil phone has got bluetooth too! It's such a pity that the T300 doesnt have Without plan, it's selling for SGD$648. All bundled with the MCA25. Good buy eh? But I dunno what's stopping me. There's a high possibility that M'sia will also introduce the T300 with MCA25. I think w/out the MCA, the mobile is much cheaper!

sanjeev: U really like the T300 rite? Don;t u think it's too 'squarish' like the T600? By the way, has the T600 been out yet here?

Posted by gilthoniel
veon : Oh IMU also cool! May i ask wat programs you use to help you wif your uni work? Like take notes? Stuff like dat? Don't worry it's changed to Pdb so that u can sync it. All you have to do is point and beam the stuff from your palm into your phone. Remember to switch on your IR... =)

scrreech : the software is shareware... guess u have to register it unless u can find a hacked version. Anyway, why can't u beam the stuff into your phone? Just click on the file, click on send (or beam) and just beam away =) if u still can't then do tell me the steps you took, and i'll see wat went wrong. Yes you can't see the pics with ZboxZ, that's the bad thing about this program. But heck, you can see it in your phone =)

LOVE it !!

T600 is here... Rm900

Posted by wrecked_porsche

Posted by wrecked_porsche

hi veon so youre in IMU bukit jalil? which year are you in? Im from IMU seremban doing my last year. oh well I guess different people have different views on using their PDA's cause palm os's are not sufficient for holding programs for drug libraries and such its actually up to an individual whether they would choose a palm os or pocket pc's. Ive been using a palm for 7 years till i switched to pocket pc's which helped me even more and theres no problem with the size considering that it's alot more useful than a mere organiser.

Posted by veon18
gil: often i use the word to go for typing my reports and stuffs and also for PBL usage, sometimes i even draw diagrams on the memo pad so that i can refer it later during PBL and draw it on the board
For hospital visit, i often use one of preset word doc. which i had set systematically so that i can input the data into my palm systematically when i clerk the patient, and oo...it's darn nice and so much in order, but in the end u still have to memorize everything so u dun leave it out during OSCE exams

yo..today i just visited megamall today and tried out the P800 prototype, the phone was darn cool and i was playing with it for almost half an hour, there's no stylus provided from him so i had to use my finger nails instead. The specs are great , but the quality of the pictures taken by the integrated digicam was not up to the mark (even for a 640 x 480 quality pic) and can be seen rather pixelate than smooth image on the P800 screen itself,so the digicam does not amused me much. Also i kept bragging about the use of the duo memory stick slot to the person in charge....hehe....but he did entertain me, quite a humorous guy! SE should have incorporate a normal sony memory stick instead of the duo so that the memory stick can be used conjunction with the previously released sony devices..such a letdown, now we have to buy a special duo stick just for the P800
But what did really surprised me was the information given by the person in charge of the roadshow...he said the P800 wont exceed RM3000, maybe around RM2699 and it will be released near X'mas this year (contrast to the info which most ppl had confirmed the release is postphoned to the Q1 of 2003)....i dunno how true is this :>

Posted by veon18
danlai: hi, now there are 3 of us from IMU here, hehe..about palm, i had just used it for a mere 1 week, so i dunno whether it will suffice my needs, but i hope that the 64MB SD card i bought is sufficient at least for the time being. Maybe i will change to a pocket pc when i go overseas after this sem. By the way i am in sem 5. About the drugs library, is there a freeware for it? or did u purchased it, quite hard to find freeware for medic online. Anyway what pocket PC are u using?Ipaq 3970?

cheers

gilthoniel: For picts, I use the MGI Photosuite which was included in he Palm Bonus CD... so I neednt use ZboxZ to change to a pdb. If I do so, how do I view the file (eg: me.gif.pdb) on my m130?

Here's what I did with my Palm & T68:-
I sync my picture (eg: me.gif.pdb) to my Palm. Then I renamed it to (me.gif) using McFile. I beamed it to my T68... it was able to do the transfer BUT I was unable to see the pict. It shows a red X, meaning I was unable to see the pict. I suspect the problem could be due to the file size being big... Hmm...

veon18: RM$2699? Woah!!! That's really expensive... But good thing abt SE mobiles is that prices go down very fast! Only then I'll be able to afford... I dun want to waste too much money

Posted by gilthoniel
scrreech : The reason your phone doesn't show the picture is because it's in the MGI format. You have to box your GIFs with ZboxZ. Your file will appear as 123.gif in the info in ZboxZ. So there's no need of renaming. The reason the file went through is because it was named .gif but it's in the wrong format so the phone couldn't show it.

Mmm... i don't usually view the pics that i box with ZboxZ but I do use Handstory to keep my pics separately and view them. It's a great Memo, doc and picture viewer. You can check it out in Palmgear too.

veon : wat word program?

Cheers!

does anyone know how much a data cable costs ? i can find it anywhere here in sabah

Posted by yapliren
@scrreech FunnyPhone can preview the gif before send. Why not you try out funnyphone? It's a freeware too. By the way SGD$380 for trade it t68 is damn worth. I want to change back to 8250 because I can use it rudely. hahaha. I used to kick it as a football

@veon18 well, I used 7mb out of 8mb for palm. 64mb is more then enough for you. Palm use very little of memory to install program only. But pocket pc devide it into 2 parts which is RAM and another one is RAM act as hard disk (storage). When install a program it mount into storage part and when execute it take up RAM too.

Posted by yapliren
seem like a lot of future doctor using t68. LoL

Posted by veon18
gil: i use the freeware inside the bonus cd in m130 package, document to go

sfa: DRS-11 cost RM150 but it runs via serial port, USB data cable cost around rm190 ,maybe u can ask ur relatives to buy in peninsular malaysia and send it via pos to u

yapliren: oo...guess 64MB is really sufficient, and Pocket PC sounded too complicated compared to palm from your words....Ermm..actually did not see many of medical students use T68 (only saw 2 gals carrying a T68i in the campus and no guys...maybe guys do not show off as much as gals..hehe)

scrreech: I tot RM2699 is well below the estimated price which was around RM3k. SE price drop fast?i tot it is Nokia all along...

Posted by bulkhy
OMG??!!
P800 is out?
man i wanna touch it..
so chunted..
rm2699? worth it
but den im gettin one maybe
my fren in UK
got it for 250pounds with contract
so its rm1500 ere oni around that
save up rm1000 for the warranty though..

gilthoniel: YEA!!! I slept abt 4am having fun with my Palm & T68!!! I was busy with finding all my picts... resizing them to 101x80... boxing them & beaming them!!! The fault was that I didnt go back to ZboxZ to beam... I used McFile... And another prob was that I saved the boxed gifs in my card & not in the Palm (hardisk). However, all is well & I'm very very happy

yapliren: I did install Funnyphone once but I wasn't able to see any gif files there. Only managed to beam the ringtones that was included in there. I gave up & deleted the prgme.

veon18: As far as I know, SE prices drop very fast & the value is quite little compared to Nokia phones. Noka phones can maintain their prices for quite sometime & their value is more. Eg: I sold my mom's Nokia 3210 & my T10sc. Both mobiles came out abt the same time. I got SGD$70 for the Nokia & SGD$50 (which was good enuff as someone actually offered $30!!!) for the T10sc. And Nokia have very high trade-in prices. The Nokia 8210 & the T68m are actually worth the same trade-in price!!!

Posted by yapliren
@scrreech
funnyphone devide into 2 part. First is ringtone and when you click a button it will switch to logo part. I think you don't realise this.. hehe

Posted by scrreech
yapliren: Right~... ookie... but i cannot see the gif files... How do I import? There's this pdb file called T39picts but I was uable to actually see the files in funnyphone except the ones already installed here. *scratch head*

veon18: I actually saw a software whereby u could use it when making rounds to visit patients... something called 'Patients'. Have u heard of it???

All PDA users: Do u play games with ur Palm? If so, what's ur favourite?I play Scrabble a lot with my bf during train/bus rides.

Posted by veon18
scrreech: never heard of this software but since it's used for making round, it should be very useful, will try to search for it and hopefuly it's a freeware..hehe..thnx for the info, pal
about games...just tried the bejewelled, still not really attached to it

saw a game called kylie's Quest at www.palmgear.com. Er...dunno whether i spelt correctly or not...but it was highly rated there, will like to try it these 2 days

http://www.funnysoft.org/download.php?
This page contain some pre-make color logo. It's on my right side, you may download it and sync to your palm.

http://www.funnysoft.org/FunnyPDBManager.php?
This url let you download a program that able to make .gif files into one single pdb and let you sync it and use it in funnyphone.
