i was at the station by chance....hafta fill up anyway and was totally shocked that i had to wait in queue for 30 friggin mins just to put petrol in me car

only then i found out that the price will go up by 30sen....friggin hell.....so everythin else will go up from today..... celaka!!!

Posted by wrecked_porsche
Yalah, the fookin petrol price has been goin' up every few months... crap.

And just recently the price of Char Kuey Teow and Fried Mee oso gone up. Not sure about chicken rice and the others...

Posted by waja800
Haven't eaten any chicken for the past few days... So don't know the direction of the price yet... But yeah even drinks have increased in price lately... Sigh... the price hike is never ending but our salary remains the same....

Posted by wrecked_porsche
Yeah that's the problem... Pay = same, prices ever increasing.

Najib says we should not waste stuff like food, water etc. so we can save up for petrol. He says we won't feel the pinch then. What a pile of bullocks...
We shud already be saving those stuff even without the fuel price increase... The fuel price increase has nothing to do with it. What a load of crap and a "good" way to avoid the subject...

Posted by shithappens
only goes to show msia truly boleh

the latest fuel hike will be a big ass burden to the majority but yet it's the minority (referin to $$$ in bank types here) that comes up with idiotic comments on how to save blah blah blah.....makes me wanna

ah well like they keep on sayin, there's just no place like home

anyone wanna car pool its cool

CAN YOU ALL BELIEVE THIS

New 3G spectrum have been awarded to MiTV and Timedotcom.

The gorverment said they can meet the requirement....BUT

didn't TimeDotCom have so much trouble in getting user for their 017 network which ends up they have to sell it to Maxis?

Why Digi who is performing so good cannot meet the requirement?

Why MiTV which is still struggling to get user in their paid TV...meaning they are in a lost but still they can get it.

So many why but for us...we will never know how this decision was made...as usual

Posted by wrecked_porsche
@Shits, car pool is indeed fun. Too bad I ain't headin in ur direction.
And yup, its always the $$$ buggers talkin' kok till the cows come home... They may be rich but they sure as hell never use their brains before they use their mouths... Crap goes a' flyin' when those gaps open....

@C96, you mean to say that the last two remaining slots have been given to those two crap companies?
WTF..... If anything, I believe DiGI is even more deserving than MAXIS and CELCOM .... DiGi is the only one who pushed for edge and has many nice services utilising edge.... Maxis and Celcom only advertised the price of 3g and never really gave it any push... And now these two jokers, time and Mitv come along? Ceh.... I'll tell u how they got it, its simple really. Its all about $$$, and no its not about how well the company is doing, its how much you're willing to pay and to whom you're gonna pay... Get my drift?

Yeah I can't believe the news when I read that DiGi didn't get the 3G spectrum... Sigh... And I thought DiGi would launch its 3G services in Q3 this year...

If you look carefully, DiGi and MiTV have the same owners, so MiTV can "share" the license with DiGi. Same like Maxis, if you look carefully, Maxis did not get their 3G license, Astro did, and they are both under Tanjung if I remember correctly. So, DiGi did get a 3G license... wait and see...

Posted by wrecked_porsche
Really? Hmmm... Interesting ...
Then why did DiGi apply separately too? They wanted both slots?

Posted by c96sthl
@ajack

you must be referring to Vincent Tan

Digi....If I remember correctly isn't having him as a major share holder.
Further more Telenor have 0% in MiTV...

B grp and vincent have been keep on reducing involvement in Digi....so it just seem more like MiTV is a competitor to Digi in getting the spectrum...rather than them as partner.

MiTV want the spectrum to help on using it for their VOIP for video streaming and mobile TV etc etc.....

some press have mentioned TT Dot Com parent never get a turn around even Maxis bought the 017 license...

They are a weak company in broadband when competing with TM....and yet they have dream....the owner is khazanah which own some of the GLC

While all the GLC is working hard on reversing their bad performance...it seem Time dot com still not doing anything to fix their problem before moving forward.

this is from today's theedgedaily.com

poor digi....very clear the foreign investor will see why this happened and this definitely will not help any afford to bring in more foreign investment.

DiGi surprised but unfazed by 3G loss
By Cindy Yeap

That “greenfield” players — Time dotCom Bhd and MiTV Corp Sdn Bhd — won Malaysia’s remaining two 3G (third generation) spectrum blocks is unprecedented.

Shocked by the news that came on March 3, investors sent shares of Malaysia’s third mobile operator DiGi.Com Bhd down 10.3% in afternoon trade, its biggest one-day fall in five years. The counter lost 90 sen to close at RM7.85.

“We are surprised by this decision… the market was assuming that DiGi, known as a product innovator, would be awarded a licence,” said UBS Investment Research analyst Syed Razif Al-Idid.

“The setback for DiGi is not operational… operation-wise, DiGi is still strong. The impact is more an immediate negative effect on its share price, which had had a good run recently. There will be some price weakness,” said another analyst.

Minister of Energy, Water and Communications Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik issued a press statement last Friday naming the two winners. Lim said the decision to choose the two winners was based on commendations from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the ministry’s officials.

It is learnt that in making its decision, the government had wanted to maximise the value of its national asset, namely the 3G spectrum, by granting the licences to local companies. The view is that foreigners can still participate in 3G by partnering with the local players.

Also, since the licences were given at cheap prices of only RM52 million, the government decided that the local players should get priority, on condition that they met all criteria.

“To achieve a win-win situation, the successful applicants have been directed to work with DiGi and other service providers as a mobile virtual network operator [MVNO],” the minister’s statement added.

DiGi’s reaction
But DiGi does not seem keen on being an MVNO, which essentially means it needs to lease airtime from rivals.

“We [DiGi] will very unlikely be a service provider on their [TTdotCom and MiTV’s 3G] network. They will have to find other customers to recoup their investment,” DiGi’s chief executive Morten Lundal told The Edge in a phone interview.

He declined to say if DiGi would also not buy 3G airtime from existing spectrum holders Telekom Malaysia Bhd and Maxis Communications Bhd. Instead, Lundal said DiGi will continue to offer mobile broadband services using EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution) and consider any other relevant technologies to offer mobile data services.

“3G is not the only option [for mobile broadband],” said Lundal. DiGi is seeking official clarification from the ministry regarding the 3G awards.

“We’re extremely surprised by the news in two ways. First, that the Malaysian government believes two non-mobile operators can use the 3G spectrum more effectively than DiGi. That is hard for us to understand.

“Secondly, that Malaysia believes the market can support five players, which is a reverse from its previous strategy that led to the consolidation of mobile operators [from eight to five to the current three]. It is also a reverse from the trend in the rest of the world [where consolidation happens as the market matures],” said Lundal.

On a brighter note, Lundal expects earnings for fiscal 2006 to come in “even better” due to smaller capital expenditure (capex). DiGi previously said about 20% of its RM800 million to RM900 million capex this year would be for 3G.

Boost for MiTV, Time dotCom
All three applicants in the latest 3G tender met the required minimum threshold in terms of technical, financial and managerial capabilities, the minister said in his statement.

MiTV’s executive director Kenneth Chang, who oversees the company’s 3G strategy, is simply delighted at the news.

“I believe that being a Malaysian company was one important factor that led to the government’s choice… We are grateful that the government had taken that into account when considering the applications,” Chang told The Edge .

MiTV plans to spend between RM1 billion and RM1.5 billion on 3G capex through 2009, which would give it 80% coverage of the country, Chang said. He also said that MiTV will be able to roll out 3G services in the Klang Valley, at least on a trial basis, by year-end. This is thanks to it being able to leverage on MiTV’s existing infrastructure.

The country’s second pay-TV operator will fund its 3G expansion through a combination of shareholder advances, banking facilities, equipment leases and even the capital market, although it is “way too early” to speak of listing MiTV now, Chang said.

Keeping MiTV’s 3G game plan close to his chest, Chang said the company is confident in being able to make an impact on the Malaysian market, banking on the understanding its key people and owners have of the industry.

Chang said that MiTV sees a lot of potential in becoming a mobile service provider in the country and is attracted to the industry based on the attractive earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) margins that the other three players enjoy.

On the other hand, a Time dotCom spokesperson declined comment pending the receipt of an official notification. Its shares surged 18 sen or 38.3% to 65 sen last Friday, on heavy trade of over 80.3 million shares. It last saw a similar one-day gain in that quantum in June last year when major shareholder Khazanah Nasional Bhd-controlled Time Engineering Bhd said they are “seriously” looking to restructure the company.

Near-term impact
Meanwhile, Telekom and Maxis shares also ended lower last Friday, owing in part to the surprise of having two new rivals instead of one. With their 3G licences, the two new entrants will be able to offer mobile phone services.

One investment bank-backed brokerage told clients that it is looking to further cut price targets for all the three large players due to “higher than expected risk and competition” ahead.

But not all analysts take this view.

“I don’t think this is the end for DiGi,” said UBS’ Syed Razif. While acknowledging 3G as a potential growth driver, analysts, he said, have not factored in any earnings contribution from 3G for the telcos. This is due to poor take-up rate for 3G services in Asia so far.

Greenfield players are also seen as lesser competition to 3G incumbents Telekom and Maxis compared to DiGi, which has been stealing market share from both its larger rivals. DiGi’s market share for both revenue and subscriber base rose by around 2.5 percentage points last year from the year before.

“There is no change in the 3G duopoly status as the two new players would take a longer time [than DiGi] to roll out services,” said one analyst.

While it is possible for new entrants to erode mobile operators’ margins with further price cuts, it is the discounts by the mobile operators that have been more painful for discounted call providers like Time dotCom, REDtone International Bhd and NasionCom Bhd thus far.

It remains to be seen whether the two winners can change this, but already speculation on possible suitors has begun.

WTF... Kesian DiGi man...
Kena forced like that... So now what are they gonna do? They only have Edge...

Well let's see if the two new buggers offer better service/pricing compared to Maxis and Celcom or not... I highly doubt it.

So, now would be a good time to buy shares in DiGi... ?

So, let's say the two new fella's can't handle 3G properly, can they sell their license to DiGi? Just wondering.... Are they allowed to sell it?

And yeah you're right... this will give a bad impression to other foreign companies...

Posted by c96sthl
MiTV will work with Nasioncom.....Vincent Tan have been said to have getting more share of Nasioncom.

But then he have very small ammount of share in Digi.

given he manage to put another reshuffle on share holding till he become a big owner in digi....else digi just have to look for other way.

anyway....more phone is coming in with Wifi...maybe just maybe Digi can go and get a wifi license.........

TT Dot com...well look at the bright side

remember who is the cheapest in town when we used to have 5 mobile telco

it is TM touch and ADAM!!!!

so HURRAY ....we can get cheap call rate and also worst network coverage in town...of course this can be different now with more network operator is sharing transmission tower....but it still depends whether TT Dot com got the $ to pay for using others tower plus buying the equipment......

Of course no worries...china Huawei is offering cheap 3G equipment.

Posted by wrecked_porsche
I sense just a little sarcasm from your previous post...

So, like I asked, is the 3G license transferable?

Posted by c96sthl
of course....i was con by their ad last time....claiming best coverage in PLUS highway...well tht's my uni days when i need to take bus all the time.

Guess what I saw when i pass by the 017 tower near gua tempurung......this is way before maxis bought it.

All the antenna at the tower have no connection to the equipment located at the base of the tower!!!

tht's how great their commitment is. But anyway I do enjoy very cheap call rate tht time...only problem is even when everyone get full bar in KLIA/ KLCC...I can ends up getting none.

better change topic.....else my blood pressure getting higher.

BTW anyway saw W810? some say it is already in town...it could be AP set or parallel import....not sure since Ipoh is always late in getting new product.

Posted by SsTiTcH
Shame about digi not getting 3g license. Often wonder about the logic of Malaysian companies as they charge foreigners more than malaysians.. For a handphone contract I was charged 4 times more on deposit than my wife who is chinese/malaysian.. And bloody Rhb bank has still after 3 months not deposited money to my account that i deposited. Needless to say I now do my major shopping and business in Singapore. Shame as Malaysia is a Beautiful Country with friendly people and alot of potential.

@ Sanj .. Overall compared to the UK with its high cost of living, shortage of housing, high crime rate etc. Malaysia is great .. Just that Malaysia has a way to go before it is ready to compete with the world.. ( Though I do get homesick for Japan..)

I thought you don't like clam shell

well don't be picky on k610

remember tht it will sell as long as "610" is used

of course it is such a coincident tht every product with 610 looks so good

you won't feel tired with T610, HBH610 and K610 design.

K610 is in fact nicer than the K800 IMO. But the only thing nice about the K800 is the 3.2 MP camera.

The way I see it, yeah, we are on the way there... Heading for destruction that is.

Compete with the rest of the world on what terms? Cost of living? Heck, yeah we are almost there. Every bloody thing is going up in price. Crime rate? Sure, just bring in more foreign workers, that will surely increase the crime rate to those of developed places.... What else? Shortage of houses? Hah, its only a matter of time. Every bloody piece of land as far as the eye can see is being developed. Tell me when was the last time you actually saw nice greenery in Malaysia? Heck there ain't a decent park anywhere near Subang. Even if there was a park, the lake in the center would be full of crap, and I literally mean full of crap.

How about the public transport system of Malaysia? Bullocks! That's all I can say. We have all these "great" roads leading here and there... But how loong are they gonna keep expanding it? Waaaaay too many cars on the road. People drive like maniacs. Instead of the never ending process of expanding the roads, why can't those fellas just focus on better public transport? And speaking of public transport, our great komuters run through the slums to cater for the foreign workers I was talking about... And don't even get me started on the way they run their service and how punctual they actually are ok?

Then we have the coruptions, I'm SURE we can't be beaten in that department. We must have caught up and overtaken the coruption rates of the more developed countries huh? We can be "proud" of that for sure.

Remember the green coloured building near Sunway Pyramid, the youth center? The one that came out in the Star Metro in early January? Anyone remember it? Well, it cost RM30mil and was rotting away for years until it came out in the newspapers. Then the MPSJ said ok ok, it will be up and running by the end of Jan. But guess what? Its still in the same shitty condition it was before all the attention was focused on it. People paid attention to it for about 2 weeks or so and so ends the story. All is swept under the carpet because of our "tidak apa" attitude. The bugger who gave out that contract and his partners in crime/henchmen are laughing all the way to the bank. I drive past that piece of crap every day on the way to Uni and it makes me sick.

I don't hate Malaysia, I feel sad that everyone is turning a blind eye to what's happening around the.. Everyone has the attitude of "as long as it doesn't concern me".... I dread to think of the Malaysia of 20 years into the future. Maybe then we would be ready to "compete" as you said.

I prefer the old Malaysia of 15 years ago...

Ok, on a much much much more lighter note, new firmware for K750i is out.
yay !

Don't you think that's the mentality of Malaysians?

I'm pretty tired of that hoo-haa as well...

Posted by wrecked_porsche
Yeah, the reason why the corrupted/evil get away soo easily in Malaysia is because Malaysians will make noise for a week or two then everyone will just shut up because they've forgotten all about it or because they WANT to forget about it...

I wonder what it would take for Malaysians to change their way of thinking? Are we really that powerless? I think the "tidak-apa" attitude is there because we believe that we can't do anything to change the way things are. So, in return we become selfish and its everyone for himself.

Good case in point, the current driving system. The JPJ testers at the driving schools are bloody corrupted. Everyone knows that. Anyone who doesn't know this is either oblivious to his surroundings or must have been living under a coconut shell. It even came out in the newspapers about two months back correct? Then as usual everything died down.

Now first of all, the public knows about this, but they believe they can't do anything about this, so they bribe in order to get their sons and daughters to pass.

Next, notice how people drive on the roads? Like crap no? So, the public has no faith in our Police as they are corrupted and understaffed. So what do people do next? Its every person for themselves, do or die. If you follow the rules on the road, there will be morons breaking rules left right and centre of you. How would you feel?
Its a herd mentality, one or two does it the rest will folllow...

Noticed the latest trend? People like to drive down the wrong way on Jalan Sehala streets now. The no entry sign it seems has become invisible or void... Anyone of you has experienced this lately?

Yeah when you flash at them trying to indicate that they're going the wrong way, they had the guts to show the international sign... Thinking that they're in the right...

Posted by wrecked_porsche
You've seen these morons drive the wrong way too? WOW, it is indeed a new trend then. They just ignore the no entry and jalan sehala then drive like its their father's road. When i just sit there and block them, expecting them to reverse, they give the "WTF are you blocking me?" look.

Man, i feel like i just want to get down then and there and give them three tight b*tch slaps...
These people all sure lesen terbang, can't even read simple road signs...
