Just to let every one know the great news.
I went on the internet today and was able to update My Orange Branded K700i with out any problems using SE Update service.
I have been trying to update every day for the past few weeks and to my supprise when it said it was downloading today i was in shock.
Any way my original firmware was R2AC, my new firmware is R2AE033 and yes the Firmware for the camera is even 3.10
Nothing was lost on the phone, nothing was changed and yes the orange shortcuts are still on the main screen before any one asks.
I can comfirm that the phone has all the features of the Generic R2AE033 K700i phones with the phone book working correctly, menus alot faster, You can now play m4a and the delay in answering or dialing calls has gone.
Little confusion tho, My phone wasnt fully charged and the battery indicator was in the Orange. However now with the new software the battery indicator is 3/4 full and back in the green. So i dont know if it does improve battery life or not.
I have also checked the fault log and nothing was reported. So that great news for me and hopefuly for SE.
Any questions just ask, I will try and help the best i can.

currently not able to test, but i will try a get some of my friends who are on the other networks to try and update theres and will post the result on here when i know.
But its great news for Orange Customers, so SE must have fixed something,
I do have some news over 02 and the K700i. If any of you read this thread and receiving problems with your text, there may be a soloution for you.
While your phone is switched on, remove the battery and take both the battery and sim card out for 10 seconds or more, replace both of them and switch the phone back on. The phone will take longer to restart as the software resets it self (No data is lost) however on the 02 phones (Generic and no Generic) i have done this on, the sms work after and still no probs after a week. not surw why but you could give it a try.

I updated my Orange K700 with the latest firmware (listed above) and although the phone operates normally, when I use my PDA (T3) and GPRS to access my emails the Disconnect function causes the K700 to lock-up...requiring battery removal. I've tried Versamail and Agendus Mail with manual and auto disconnects but they all cause the same freeze. Beware...
Email retrieval directly from the phone is okay.

Well I have updated 2 more of the Orange k700i Uk phones and didnt have one problem at all. EU3 is the version of the Laguage and French is in there too.
Well good luck everyone else, I hope that the update service is now fixed and a big horray to Oraange for allowing us to update again.

How could I be sure to update my phone with a firmware that allows to select french as a language???
Perhaps I should try through the UK website to get the right language pack... ???
Help still needed

My unbranded phone on O2 UK is updating now! It was not previously allowed to.
Will post more details when it's finished.
Done now. Can confirm it is R2AE033, with camera driver 3.10. Menus are quicker and phonebook search function is present without the bug whereby you could accidentally delete contacts. Camera shutter sound can be disabled by sticking the phone into silent mode. Camera is definitely less noisy in low light conditions - quite impressed, actually.

Cheers for the info!!!

Seems to be working fine....The Auto phone lock thing has been fixed, menus are faster, and have th cool little phone book search too.
Haven't noticed much else yet.

Updated my phone today and the only problem I've found is that the themes don't display properly. Anyone else had this happen? The bars across the top and bottom of the standby screen display the picture from the background behind the menu, rather than displaying the top and bottom bars of the standby screen background. This is quite irritating as it means all my themes look ridiculous. Anybody have an idea about how to fix this?

I just do not understand why my K700i on Orange will not update. It makes absolutely no sense. I am currently running R2AC and have been trying to update almost every day for the past 2 weeks, but it still says my device is not permitted to use the service!
I have tried everything. I even just tried a master reset of the phone, but nothing works! It's really annoying me now.

Sebb, it must be to do with us both running R2AC. MAybe Orange implemented something in this version to stop us updating?
Posted by gbrooks3
If you have the correct cable try updating your firmware with Setool, its free afterall (previous customers).
Posted by Sebby
@ richardadc
Yep, I agree. Well I would have yesterday, except I now know of a couple of Orange users who were running R2AC and have now updated successfully using the SEUS.
@ gbrooks3
As you know, I've ordered a T28 service cable, so I'm going to clear all customisation (with your help

Grrrr.
I've just updated my friend's K700i on Orange using the SEUS successfully to R2AE. It was running R2L. However, mine, which is currently running R2AC, will still not update!
I have contacted SE, and I think they may have finally listened to me. I told them that I know for a fact that it's a problem with any K700i that has R2AC. Today, they asked for my software details so they can look into it. Fingers crossed!

What is the web address for this SEUS, I don't know how to get there, now my friend has a P910, I can borrow his DSS-25, I am also looking for one in the market.
So the address?
I still have the bloody R2C001
and camera 3.9.
I got my K700i in August last year, so I still have the ancient one!

@ Chazzer3
Go to sonyericsson.com, click the "support" tab, choose your country, type in K700i in the "product name" box, select the phone the under "matching products" list, then amongst all the links, you should see one for "Sony Ericsson Update Service".
Posted by Chazzer3
What is the web address for this SEUS please?
Posted by Sebby
Look at my above post!
Posted by Sebby
Further to my post the other day, Sony Ericsson asked for my software details to investigate the problem that I had informed them about, regarding Orange-branded K700i handsets with R2AC not updating.
Today, I received a reply saying that they have verified that the SEUS is working correctly. I have just sent back a strong email basically spelling it out that I know for a fact that it isn't, and providing some evidence.
This is getting ridiculous! The T28 service cable that I ordered should be arriving soon. Unbranding is looking more and more desirable!

Okay, another update.
After telling Sony Ericsson that there is definitely a problem with Orange-branded K700i handsets that have R2AC, they have asked for my SEUS log file. It's looking a bit more hopeful. In a couple of days, the SEUS may be working for us poor Orange users...

Thanks for the updates Sebby.

Is anyone else having a problem with Orange branded phone and Update version R2AE033. I cannot switch my phone off, and I'm also getting the bars top and bottom of my screen messing with my themes
Posted by Jay Samford
Sebby Im also on R2C,
Dont want to go out and buy a DSS-25 if it still isnt working.
Have you had any updates on it at all?
Posted by Sebby
@ Jay Samford
SE still haven't fixed it, but I have emailed them a couple of times since, and they say they are working on the problem, and will email me when they know more. I may email them again to chase it up!
I don't doubt that they will fix it, but it's taking a long time. At least they are aware that the update service will not work with R2C.
Posted by Jay Samford
Thats cool, in the mean time if I took my phone to say CPW im guessing they still wouldnt have any problems in updating me to R2AE?
Jay
Posted by Sebby
Correct, they will be able to update it no problem.
Posted by Sebby
Just had this reply from SE after weeks of waiting:
| Quote: |
With regards to your enquiry, unfortunately, after extensive investigation it has proved impossible for remote support to determine the cause of this problem. To resolve the problem please take your handset to an approved Sony Ericsson service location for the software upgrade. |
Pathetic.

lol, looks like its a trip to CPW. Doesnt supprise me about SE though, same ole' same ole.
Just out of intrest, dont know if you've used CPW before but does their method of updating require a master reset or anything similar that would result in me losing pictures, videos, contacts etc etc?
Jay
Posted by Sebby
Previously, I've never used CPW to update the firmware. I've used my nearest service centre. Although this was for a T610, the phone was not wiped, but I'd advise backing up just in case.
Posted by Glenny
i dont mind taking to the CPW. It is literaly next door to me! please dont get an angry mob after me
@jay - www.carphonearehouse.co.uk on faq or something it says they can do updates obviusly, but it will delete memory it says. not tried it yet though

I updated my K700i today. It is Orange branded and worked without a problem. My new firmware is R2AE033! I used to have R2C001, so this is proof that it can be updated, i'm using Windows 2000 with SP4.
