As 3G has but ONLY just begun it's journal in the mobile market, it is unlikely that if you buying a 3G phone, everybody else will have one. So what's the point? All the "Fun" for yourself, and since barely anybody else will have it, there won't be much "Fun" even for you. The network servers won't have much in their WAP sites for you to download. Pricings? Higher than normal 2.5G phones naturally.I'm not biast over 3G, I'm just stating some facts. I mean, if 3G has everything then, I would, probably myself, buy a 3G phone.
So my point here is, Post your thoughts, comments, complaints or experiences of 3G here in this topic.

Don't know where you're posting from, mate, but 3G was launched by "3" in the UK, nearly 2 years ago. And I would also argue that it's very rarely more expensive to use than 2G. Even video calls are about the same price as we were paying for cross-network voice calls a year or two ago.

My Thoughts on Australian 3G Networks.
Three - Cheap, Reliable, Excellent
When not in a video zone, they run via Vodafone. Little more expensive for calls when Roaming, but no big deal.
Customer service, based in India, shit.
Services, are good, except on Pre-Paid (PAYG) you can't browse the web except their content service. But on a plan (Bill Pay), you can.
With the deals they have here, a lot, and I mean A LOT of people have these phones.
Telstra - Main Australian Carrier will be introducing 3G services soon.
Vodafone - Like Telstra.
Optus - No word as yet.
Word has it that Telstra and Vodafone will enter into a contract, and share the 3G services, therfore, saving money, and getting more and more people connected to the 3G service.
IMO - 3G will eventually see the end of GSM, leaving WCDMA and CDMA as the big players. I mean, Australia said goodbye to analouge (sp) about 10 years ago, if not more.
So, 3G is great here in Australia. Sorry if it all doesn't make sence, I'm tired

*Sigh* NZ doesn't EVEN 'WANT' EDGE, that's why none of our phones have EDGE, they say it's only for America and things..

Just to clarify, Telstra and Three Hutchison (not Vodafone) will enter into a contract where Telstra pays A$450 million for a 50% ownership of Hutchison's 3G network.
Whilst, Vodafone and Optus will share equally the cost to build and run a brand new 3G network

Umm..Brainwave, that's AUSTRALIA, you have Mobile.MSN.com listed for Messenger, you get THINGS!!! hello?? NZ aren't listed, so you can't use MSN via. phone.

My mistake. However, I work for Optus, and there are no plans for 3G, yet, I know Vodafone are getting on with plans to get 3G in Aussie asap.

@juk:
@Whoever said we don't need edge in NZ. They're right
Whats the point of bringing in another standard thats only a stop gap measure to 3g anyhow?
Vodafone are already trailing 3G with partners here in Auckland, at least on the north shore. Not sure how widely the network has been roled out as of yet but it won't be that long before they get it released, least in the next 1-3 months i imagine.
Since telecom already has their network out, you can bet that VF won't be too far behind.
At least the handsets will be better
No use complaining about it, it is coming, we just have to be patient. :/

Here in canada, only one of 4 operators, which fully owns 1 of the remaining 3, offers Edge. All the others 2 busy trying 2 market their the largest of the bunch.

It looks like 3 are planning to get more money from everyone inluding me in the future. I know mobiles can be expensive but why do 3 have to look for even more money from consumers when they have the nerve to charge £115 to unlock one of their phones. Now according to press releases which could affect all countries they are planning to increase the costs. Have a read of this quote from their release see what YOU think about it.
This is the latest Press release from 3 on their future mobile phones.
QUOTE!
Forty two per cent of European mobile phone users are interested in 3G services, according to the TNS Telecoms 3G 2003 report, carried out in 10 countries. But the good news for telecoms operators and manufacturers is that the majority of those users interested in 3G were prepared to pay extra for 3G handsets and services.
Half of these respondents who stated that they were interested in 3G services (21 per cent of all mobile users), said they would pay an additional 6 to 10 euros per month for some 3G services such as MMS, high speed internet and emails. With the report showing that the average monthly invoice for a mobile phone user in Europe is currently at 26 euros (20 euros for prepaid and 37 euros for contract) operators have the potential to substantially increase their average revenue per user (ARPU).
Similarly, those interested in 3G services would also be happy to pay more for a 3G handset than they paid for their existing one. Across all countries surveyed, the majority of respondents would be willing to pay up to 330 Euros for a 3G handset. However this figure changes considerably by country, depending, among other reasons, on whether handsets are subsidised by the operators, as in France or the UK.
