Hi All
I have a T68i and would like it to work with my GPRS enabled subscription.
Is there any rogers AT&T user that is able to read pop3 email directly via his phone menu (and not via wap, which is already working).
If so, how is your GPRS setup? Any other helpful settings?
Thank you in advance!
/Serge
PS: Rogers AT&T does not want to help cause (read: they are clueless) they say I bought my phone separately from them.
Ericsson Canada has no local service center in Montreal and says it is up to Rogers, and they probably won't know. (they were right)

I am having similar problems with AT&T is the US. I bought an sim-unlocked T68i. I setup the data accounts and WAP profile exactly the way my T68m is setup, but it's not working.
I called customer care, but they are completely clueless. The guy had no idea what "WOP" (as he called it) was. They're telling me they can't help me because only phones purchased from them will function on their network. What a bunch of crap.
So, now I'm stuck with a nice, new T68i, but no WAP service.

I feel sorry for you guys. I mean customer service that say wop! Hmm i wonder if i go there i can say that i have a Scandinavian degree in cell phones and i want to work for you guys! Hmm is it hard to get work at AT&T?
Posted by mslac
I bought the T68i from sweden (where I currently live) for my dad in canada as a gift. Last time I was there, I must have spent 3 hours with customer support over the phone.
(it is more and more feeling like a poisoned gift... the gift that keeps consuming time
When going to a rogers AT&T shop for help and showing them the phone.. the guy said: "can I touch it?" LOL!!! He had never even heard of such phones.
Anyhow, if anyone out there has succeeded, please don't keep your success to yourself!!! Waiting desperatly!

I got this answer on alt.cellular.ericsson:
Rogers has not yet implemented pop3 email support for their gprs network (not even for their own treo! why else would you get the treo?!?). They say by september it should be up.
Posted by Bjerkebanen
what is a treo?
Posted by mslac
It is sort of a mix between a blackberry and a palm pilot. You can find a picture here:
It is developed and sold by handspring.

mslac, smcclin, and all.
Unfortunately for the technically inclined and forward thinking ppl of Canada, Rogers A&T has not implemented email access (pop3 or MMS/EMS) on their GPRS servers. No none date when this will be available because the stupid IT Tech & marketing personnel has no idea what their strategy is going to be.
I used to work at the corporate head office here in Toronto at 33 BLoor street east (Jarvis & Bloor) and helped in testing their network last August till November 16 (for free, all services hehe!). Back then their goal was to just get GPRS on their phones (Motorola T193 & Timeport P7382i my test model).
Then They were going to launch the Ericsson T-39m and T-68i however they stopped just before launch (you've might've seen ads in some RadioShack, Rogers AT&T WIreless, and private owned licensed stores but they dont offer them unless privately by the owner in his "own" store) because with these phones the user can track their SMS outgoing and their time online, total data sent/received/outright total! Rogers doesn't like this because if their is a problem with their billing system, Vision21 in connection from the AOM (vision21 is what any wireless customer service rep will use on their computer to see all details services memos, changes and suspension/payment methods on your account. The AOM is what vision21 interacts with to connect directly to the cell site.IF a service is added to your cellphone account in the AOM it will not show up in Vision21 thus you will NOT be billed for it), then the customer can argue about it and WIN!
An example is the service "FIMF" or First 400 incoming minutes free; this does sound great, but unfortunately the AOM and Vision21 dont communicate properly. The AOM or the cell site cannot differentiate between daytime/nighttime minutes with FIMF on your account and thus vision21 tallies up all incoming minutes whether day or night as part of your FIMF for each month. So if you have unlimited evenings &weekends, FIMF SHOULD benefit you only during the days--which makes sense--and at nights it shouldnt matter and thus should NOT be tallied. But the AOM tells vision21 to tally the nighttime incoming first 400 minutes (remember only the 1st minute of each incoming phone call should be free--leisure pkges with ultd eves/wkends; daytime minutes should take advantage of FIMF NOT the nights) thus leaving you with no real benefit. Especially if you changed your price plan since July of 2001 and are now paying $8 per month extra for this bullshit service (if your not using digital one rate plan).
Email "might" work if your use "internet.com" instead of "goam.com" as your APN but the Primary/Secondary IP's and ports might need to be changed as well--I'm going to be trying this at the end of the month, so shhhh! Also, Email directly to any device is only going to work "officially" on a Blackberry (the 5810 maybe dont know), and if your using and paying mega $$ for PortagePlus service and package kit for your laptop using your phone as your modem (which "internet.com" would be the APN for accessing the HTML internet sites).
Hope this proves that I dont talk bullshit. dont believe me then ask customer service rep what the software their using is called==Vision21, and what the AOM is (not every rep will have access to this, especially the newbie reps, lol).
I'll keep you all posted if I get successful with GPRS for directly downloading uploading email to my phone. for now its dialup, sucks!

Thank you for your help and time in answering!
When I called the "data communications" tech support (which I believe is in toronto), the tech guy said he himself had a T-39 and everything worked... which I found very very strange. I guess he meant that he was accessing his email via wap.
I just held the new P-800 from sony ericsson in my hand a couple weeks back. If rogers does not get moving fast, they will lose the "high payers" to fido, cause the new nokias and the new P-800 have great email capabilities.

mslac,
The only way currently to view your email through Rogers AT&T Wireless GPRS device is to use the browser and scroll down from Rogers homepage and then go thru several (way to many I think) pages just to enter your email address, login, password, just to view your mail. As for security, once you logoff from WAP, or turn off your phone, the next time you logon to view your email thru WAP'n, it'll (Rogers WAP server that is) remember your settings from the first time you saved your profile. I dont like this for 2 reasons ......a) I'm spending some serious dow just to get to enter my settings then to enter them (rediculous and redundant).........b) I have NO idea or guarantee that what I've downloaded from my personal ISP email account is actually secure so that NO 1 not even rogers can see it. (there is no comfirmation or guarantee of this although the reps at IMS department will tell you that.)
mslac, by the way the IMS or Interactive Data Mobile Services department IS based in Toronto! your right, one of the employees there has a T-39m I think his name is Troy but cannot be too sure. Did they confirm the settings I gave out??!! I know they should work, and I hope that once you have My Mobile Homepage on your wireless account that your now enjoying WAP at 56kbps
How'd you like the P800?! I'd love to own one but I have no real use for it, I'm not that much of a business professional to "NEED" it but I do want one, hehe, who doesnt. Whered you get your T68i and for how much? Curious to know, if so in Toronto can you point me to the same place so that I may own a T68i as well thanks.

Hi,
Actually, all phones that have a built-in POP3 client, can be used on Rogers. You will have to purchase, a GPRS Data access option. They start at $30 a month. This will allow Internet access, so that you may fetch POP3 mail. If your ISP supports POP before SMTP, you may also send mail. You might even find a 3rd party that can sell you a POP3 account that supports POP before SMTO, or SMTP-AUTH, if the client supports it. Email is simply not a product that Rogers wireless sells, so therefore, of course, no-one has any information on it.
Posted by Prom1
Good answer but costs 30 dollars canadian too much for such a small feature. What you mentioned is portage plus with the apn being internet.com . Does anyone have the ip for portage plus service at rogers with the port numbers? Does fido allow email. Im still not successful.

The technical support at CIngular said that they only support T68m which already pre-programmed by them.

Prom1, does that mean that Rogers has scrapped the idea of offering the T68i or has it just been postponed?
Any word on what their price for it would be? I'm wondering if I would just be better off to get an unlocked one elsewhere rather than waiting.
Posted by Prom1
Looks like they originally scrapped the idea, however since Fido looks like tey'll launch the phone by mid-October, Rogers maybe doing the same. Montreal may get theirs first. Some private stores around Canada did actually make big on Rogers' blunder since last year and sell the T68m/i unlocked at retail prices.
Here are the GPRS Settings (sorry forgot that I posted on another forum long ago, HowardChui's under same name)
Goto WAP Profile Settings
Wap services(yes), Wap Settings(yes)
select profile you want to edit, the 1st one(yes)
scroll to Rename(yes) enter "Rogers"
scroll to Change homepage(yes), enter WAP homepage
http://mymobilehomepage.rogers.com/device.asp
scroll to SAVE TO (yes),
APN: goam.com
IP SETTINGS
select connect using(yes), the data account you want to use when browsing
"goam"
scroll to IP Address(yes) Enter the IP address of the gateway (ie Goam)
primary IP 208.200.067.150
port 9203
secondary IP 208.200.067.151
port 8582
scroll to USER ID (yes) "wapuser1"
scroll to Password (yes) "wap
[remember this is for WAP not for HTML sites]
scroll to Data Mode(yes), select Connection Mode(yes), select Connection Oriented
Security(yes), select "on"
scroll to show images(yes)--ON
scroll to response timer (yes) 150
Selecting WAP profile
WAP Service(yes), select profile(yes), select Rogers(yes) save everything restart your Ericsson or other device and away you go......Happy WAP'n
oh yeah forgot to mention to APN is "goam.com" this is for WAP, for HTML, ie the real internet using your phone as a modem the APN is "internet.com" but you must use Portage Plus on your wireless account to achieve this, ,,,really sucks though!!
Rogers as an employer really sucks! They take your ideas and dont give due credit for them. Anyway...
Does anyone from Canada use the Portage Plus service? If so can you please post the DNS numbers for email, the email providers name--from Rogers, and if so the IP addresses and their respective port numbers. And I'm not talking for WAP but for real HTML surfing,
thanks in advanced!!

http://upaapps.goamerica.net:8582/start.wml or u can try any of the other
addresses like the http://goamerica.net:9203/index.wml u need to save this
to the current profile.
note: these are the other WAP homepages for Rogers AT&T Wireless, notice the port numbers 8582 & 9203 should you have devices like Motorola V70 & A388 that require them.

ok, i have been trying and still have problems with my email. it keeps looking for a server and never seems to find one. can anyone help with this

I know that the T68 has several different locks, and the although a phone may have the SP unlocked, it does not enable you to change the WAP settings. Which lock must be removed to change the WAP settings? Is it the network/network subset locks?
Posted by Prom1
cellxprt, some expert you are when you got pop3 email problems, hehe, just joshn ya=pulling your leg. I live in Canada and I cant help you out 100%, however since AT&T Wireless has a close marketing, communications with Rogers here in Canada, lets try this out.
1st is the WAP profile on your account?? Next is your WAP gateway APN "goam.com" or "goamerica.com"?? If so then try a new setting in Profiles rename it Internet, then no IP, then try "internet.com" as the APN then, try internetuser1 as login, and internet as password. now if you already have the settings from AT&T then on the SMTP try using AT&T's SMTP not your private email SMTP.
Flip, what on earth are you talking about that the WAP settings in your T68i are locked?? Follow my last post in this thread and try it out, remember to save your settings. Oh yeah use your Wireless providers info instead of the ones I placed here!
Posted by cellxprt
thanks for pulling my leg prom1. and about the cellxprt, i dare anyone to walk into my store and me or my staff not sell you something. anyway back to the topic at hand, i don't have those settings on my t68i. i have the following:
connect using: aws wap
protocol: imap4
incoming server: imap.attwireless.net
incoming port: 143(preset)
Mailbox: myname@mobile.att.net
Password: *******
outgoing server: smtp.attwireless.net
outgoing port: 25(preset)
email address: myname@mobile.att.net
that is what i read off the threads about settings. is it supposed to be set to pop3 for mmode mail? also can you use AOL mail as an email setting and what are the settings? thanks for the help guys.

I actually don't have the phone yet. I plan on purchasing one and then getting it unlocked. The reason I asked the question is because I have heard from many places on the internet that it is possible for the WAP settings profiles to be locked, therefore unable to be changed, even if the sp lock is removed. This may be incorrect as I don't have the phone myself, but I have heard it numerous places.

Prom1, I have an Ericsson T39m phone and a Casio BE300 connected with a Socket DPN phone card. I am brand new to this. I wonder if there's any way to connect the PDA without using Portage Plus. I had subscibed to the data access plan to try these out. I called Rogers technical support, the guy there is quite helpful. He do give me information like user name, password as mentioned in a few post back.
He also mentioned a number to dial, which is **99***#
I still couldn't get it to work. Your expert opion is really appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Cellxprt, I learned 2 things 2day, 1st is dont mess with an American in the WildWildWest, hehe, and the 2nd is that SE phones can be WAP locked separately form SP lock, bummer!
Wish I could help you out further. M-Mode and settings from AT&T that you posted have got me a little lost. Are you registering your email settings for AT&T while browsing M-mode on your phone? Do access your email through browsing M-mode? I would recommend using www.myrealbox.com for direct email (pop3 & IMAP) access to your phone without browsing but again your phone is locked. Thus, since you know a few ppl --your store i mean--get a friend whos been loyal to AT&T to get your IMEI unlocked at no cost(put the IMEI on their account first when calling cx service or network support group), but you didnt hear this from me, hehe. Best of luck in getting your phone unlocked.
ROT, I'm no expert but I'll try at my opinion to the best of my knowledge. The settings the rep at Rogers gave you for your dialup string (from the Casio) is correct, usually. If I'm correct your account with Rogers should be fortified with MyMobile homepage for WAP surfing, but for HTML you NEED PortagePlus. Sucks I know, but first off you nee software that can read HTML from your Socket Card, and also does it support GPRS? GPRS is recommended, as dialup is incredibly slow and nerve boggling. Options: 1st off go to www.brighthand.com website on your computer and register. PM-private message "pixelator", who is an online friend and very knowledgeable in PDA's, connectors and surfing. Hes used several Casio devices and is a programmer (gamming) and could help you out! However he lives in the states, but he'll help you out better than I can as my knowledge is prior to when Rogers supported PDA's or even launched Portage Plus. Also does your Casio ask for port #?? port 9203 & 8582 for Rogers AT*T for WAP.Get GSM Team to send you a text msg when they trouble shoot next time, also before they do make sure your text msging is set for GPRS not GSM--this will make sure that your GPRS is enabled.

Stampid, Rogers launched the T68i earlier this month any luck with \"direct\" email into ur phone? Rot, did you check out PDALive.com! Did you find a solution?
Posted by theEND
i purchased a t68i from rogers last week. here's what i've found so far:
the WAP profiles are locked. this means that there are already 5 WAP profiles, all named Rogers. you cannot add new profiles, you cannot delete the present ones, and you cannot edit them either. you also cannot see any of the settings.
out of these profiles, the first one is completely dead. if you try and access your home page, you get a "GPRS failed" message. if you select the second however, you can access the Rogers WAP homepage and other sites too.. (i've been to wap.esato.com). i havent subscribed to any of the data or wap packages, so i'll let you know at the end of the month how exactly they bill me.
you can only access wap sites and not html sites.
pop mail does not work. at all.
the network lock (NCK) is active. all of the other functions are unlocked. you have 5 guesses for the NCK.
now i know why the phone cost me only 335 and not 800 (unlocked network and menus). well at least its colorfull.
i'm thinking of unlocking my phone, and also flashing it to enable all the menu's, especially the WAP profiles.
Posted by DragonEye
Hey theEND,
why do you wnat to unlock your phone?? do you want to change carriers?? i don't see why you would want to spend the money if everything already works. Email doesn 't work yet I know ... but it doesn't work with my unlocked either... and i'v ebeen talkibg to those bones heads at rogers for a month on and off now.
just curious,
dragoneye
Posted by gshanouda
well if you wish to unlock your phone, simply go to the Pacific mall and you can have it unlock 10 mints very cheap to, but if you ask rogers to do that for you they will charge you $ 200 CDN. by doing that you can have a lot of fun with the phone and you actully can add or delet whatever you want...!
Posted by theEND
good question dragoneye.
i was under the impression that unlocked phones would actually work when it came to wap and email. but i've been reading posts all over and i guess everyone's having the same problems with rogers.
i did read somewhere in the SE manual that you can configure a profile to access WAP through GSM instead of GPRS. has anyone tried this? my impression was that this would work like a dial-up connection where you have all your ISP's info (dial-up number, username, password etc) in the settings and then the phone uses that to get online.
i would have tried that with my phone but as i was saying, all the WAP menus are blocked and i cant change/edit/create/delete any of the WAP profiles.
(b.t.w. i got my first bill this week and i got charged 3 bucks for just one visit to wap.esato.com !! i'm using wap less on my t68i than i used on my 3 year old PCS phone)
Posted by DragonEye
i see..... well you should use their $5 data plan for now yet get unklimited acces for the first 2 months... don't know how the dial up will work though... but text email does work it's be posted recently use the sms thing. under messages
type in email address
leave a space
type messages
number is 10 zeroes
0000000000
send it should work ..it works for me

I have been following this thread with interest, as I also have Rogers ATT with T68i and am in Western Canada.
Even the T68i manual book refers to "WAP settings" (navigate to) with respect to modifying/adding a WAP profile; which I don't have. I have "Web settings" but not WAP settings.
Does anyone know for sure if this lack of ability to alter WAP settings is a Rogers network issue, a locking issue, or even a firmware issue (I'm at R3A023; came with the phone 1 month ago.) ?
Of course there are other ways to skin the cat. Email gateway via SMS, GSM dial to ISP / Palm, ...
It would just be nice to have the convenience of WAP for email. Without having it, mind you, I can't determine if that access would be cheaper than simple dial-up or not. Anyway...
I'd like to hit joystick, 2, 4, 2 and retrieve my secure POP3 mail from any particular Internet mail server, that's all.
Thanks.

Hi, all. I recently bought a TREO 270 from Rogers and bought a $5 wireless internet plan that included 150 kb plys 4 cents/kb after that. They sold this to me over the phone when I bought the device. 150 kb is nothing, but since I'll hardly use the browser on the TREO I thought I'd prefer this, then "pay-as-you-go" for anything more than 150 kb.
Now Rogers is telling me they sold me the wrong service, and want me to pay the $30 (see the post above). They admit they sold me the wrong package, but won't do anything about it. All told, instead of paying $40/month they want me to pay $69!!!!! And the customer service has been crap - they started yelling at me last time I called them.
So I'm wondering, does anyone have a suggestion for how to set up a connection to a dial-up provider to use the browser on the TREO 270? Rogers says I can't do it, but I really don't beleive anything they say anymore....Any ideas from anyone on how I can get my browser to work?
Thanks so much...
