What are the differences between Opera and Webviewer? I've never used or seen these before, but I only know they browse full websites.
Posted by whizkidd
I haven't used webviewer but opera yes. Also netfront which i'm using right now. Netfront has some problems opening some sites but opera opens almost all sites. Both are good. But i use netfront for esato. It displays the pages better than opera.

Any more replies?

Seems no one is interested!

Opera it is way better than webviewer. And faster

Netfront is fast too! On par with opera!
Posted by DSF
Yep. Momentanly i am using netfront, wich it seems to be more reliable. Before i was using opera, but it crashed many times when i download something

@whizkidd: In direct contrast to your experience, in my case, I found that Netfront handles some sites that both Opera & Internet have been lame on. As such, Netfront is my preferred Web browser.

Aya netfront is good. But when i try to open the esato webpage it opens fine, but click on any link and it reloads the same page. Might be a one off problem though!

Seeing that I do a lot of work online & on the move, & since Netfront lets me into the sites that are vital to my work, I am happy with it.

And i really don't think there's any difference in speeds between the two.
Posted by OluYom
@whizkidd: No significant difference anyway.

Strange. My default browser always gets stuck up and frequently disconnects. But these browsers offer good speeds and never disconnects! Why? They are on the same connection!

@whiz coz its a known fact that of qd is veeeeery slow and pretty much useless...a lot changes by just changin the browser my friend. But nokia got away with this one coz opera n netfront saved their ass
@rick700 webviewer is a gimmick buddy...not even in the same league with opera etc. Doesnt support java scripts, flash animations etc so is hardly a full web browser. Add to it the fact that java apps arent allowed access to phone memory and hence you cant download anything and we have a stinker

I have been using Opera on & off on my p900 for a couple of months now and find it freezes my phone often especially when loading large pages, I've recently started using NetFront & have not had any problems as yet, it's also more more configure-able & upto now seems more stable

Can't really say which is the better of the two!

Can anyone confirm whether these are symbian os based programs or will any of them work with the K700 ?
Posted by OluYom
@marlonski: So far, I have only come across Symbian versions of Opera & NetFront. But I believe there are java versions of WebViewer available for java-supported phones.
Posted by marlonski
@AYA Thanks very much. Will have to keep a look out for a java version of WebViewer
Posted by DSF
Webviewer is a java-based application

Thanks DSF

Just a question. Can an external browser be used on the K700?
Posted by DSF
marlonski np
whizkidd yes, if it's a java based webbrowser (as webviewer)
Posted by whizkidd
@DSF, thanks for the info. But are there java apps as good as the symbian ones like opera?
Posted by clank
I'v tested a couple of java based webviewers and they are all just for very basic webviewin...nothin like symbian ones like opera etc. Apart from the well known webviewer cellhtml was one but its dead now. Another one very much like webviewer is pocketweb whos beta version i tested some time back, i believe its also been launched now.
Posted by whizkidd
So the symbian ones are way better?
Posted by DSF
whizkidd java is not that powerfull as symbian, so webviewer (or any java web browser) is not that good as the symbian's browsers. Java is limited from many points of view..
Posted by whizkidd
Another shot in the arm for symbian! I would have really loved if SE had non UIQ symbian phones.

just downloaded and installed webviewer trial version, (going to have a look at pocketweb also) had a quick look at esato and I have to say i was quite impressed. The trial version limits the amount of pages you can view per day so i will I'm going to have a play over the next couple of days.
