I would like my Sony Ericsson T610 to ask me if it wants to connect to WAP without connecting automatically. How can I set this on the phone to give me the option.
Thanks.

Well, go to webservices, options, WAP profiles, select one, connect using, always ask.

I don't have Web Services and Profiles on my T610.

Oh. It is like that in my t230. I assumed it will be the same for t610. My mistake. Sorry.

No I don't and there is certainly no option to let me change the settings!

Do you have a branded phone?
Posted by whizkidd
Not a single web services related menu? Thats strange!
Posted by Gill
There is an Internet Services menu - when I click on it, it says Loading, then I get a list of Internet Services - Search Engine, Picture Gallery, Online Manual and Settings. I can't seem to find the settings to ask me whether I want to connect to WAP or not.
Posted by govigov
Let me repeat, is the phone branded?
Posted by Gill
I don't understand what branded means?
All I know is that it's a Sony Ericsson T610!
Any help would be appreciated - thanks.

Do You have the name of an operator printed on the phone? Eg... Vodafone?
Posted by Gill
I am with T-Mobile, although the phone can be used for any network.
Posted by clank
Those options must be in connection settings...click on connection icon in menu...find internet profiles...click on it and then view settings.
Posted by Gill
I have looked and it it not there!

Someone with a T610 could help the guy out? @Gill, then do you have a menu named 'WAP services'? BTW branded means that a network operator messed with your phones firmware. ;-)
Posted by govigov
Is there a main icon in desktop for internet? It should be in there.
Posted by Gill
I believe the Sony Ericsson T610 is a phone that can be used by any network, so surely branding would not apply???

Internet settings..?
Posted by govigov
Yes. Branding is one thing. Using it in all networks is another. There is a diff between branding and locked phones. It can be used by all networks is an unlocked phone.(or one that has never been locked.) Branded phone means you have the operator settings preloaded on the phone.

There is certainly no operator logos on the phone.
When I press the centre button, I get a menu of 12 icons. The top-right icon says "T-Mobile" which is my provider. This connects to WAP automatically. This is what I want to stop as I want it to ask me! The top-middle button says "Internet Services". When I click on that, I get a menu which says, "Sony Ericsson" at the top with Sony Ericsson's logo, then I get a menu of "Search Engine", "Picture Gallery", Online Manual" and "Settings". When I clicn on the "Search Engine" link, it then connects me to WAP but, again, I want it to ask me.

That is what we call a branded phone.

So if I put in an "Orange" SIM card, would the tp left-hand icon say "Orange" and my phone settings would change to Orange then?
Posted by govigov
No. Your phone is tmobile branded
Posted by Gill
Can I still put another network's SIM in there then and it will work?
Posted by govigov
If it is unlocked, you can make and recieve calls. Not sure of wap though.

If you do not want it to go online at all, you can try to disable wap by deleting the wap-profile. Go to connections (bottom left icon) and then have a look at internet settings and data communication. You could install a new dummy internet account and set it as standard. There are some more threads about his elsewhere.
I have not found a way to let the phone ask if you want to go online. Unfortunately.
Posted by clank
You cant make the phone ask you...as stated above only way is to disable wap settings.
Posted by whizkidd
What a headache! Why on earth do operators mess up with good phones?
Posted by Gill
It is a pain - I should not have to reinstall the profiles each time I want WAP. Pity there is no option to ask.
Posted by govigov
There is an option, but you just have to do it right.
Posted by Gill
Where is the option? I can't seem to find it.
Posted by govigov
Try similar options as mentione above. You must get it. Try creating a new profile and put that as default.
Posted by Gill
Where do I find the IP address of my phone?
Posted by govigov
Your phone doesnt have an ip. If you are lookin for ip of your wap profile, it must be under internet profiles. (Not data communication.)
Posted by Gill
I created a new profile and selected the option to "Ask before connecting". However, I notice that it now says "Sony Ericsson" on the Icon instead of T-Mobile! It also didn't ask me and just connected!
Posted by govigov
Now edit the current profile and use the same "ask before connecting" option.
Posted by whizkidd
That takes you to the sony ericsson homepage! Does it open?
Posted by Gill
I get a page with "Internet Services". When I click on that, I get a menu which says, "Sony Ericsson" at the top with Sony Ericsson's logo, then I get a menu of "Search Engine", "Picture Gallery", Online Manual" and "Settings".
Posted by govigov
Go to connect, internet profiles. How many profile do you have? Edit all your profile with "always ask"
Posted by Gill
It only seems to want me to get a Second Account to ask before use and not the first one.

You have 2 more choices in advanced settings. 1. Security. 2. Password.
Posted by Gill
How do I put in the settings into Security of Passwords then
Posted by Pradhika
Connectivity, wap profiles, select, edit and advanced. Now you can do it.
Posted by Gill
What comes after Advanced?
Posted by Pradhika
Enter User name
