Thankfully his legacy lives on and thankfully, as a result of his leadership, we are here today to appreciate it. Rest in peace ...

I picture the old chap with a big cigar and a big smile!

@batesie

Quite probably, perhaps whilst painting or bricklaying, he loved to do both.

or thinking, he loved that too!

I saw a movie yesterday about Churchill's life on a portuguese TV channel.

What a great leader you Brits had.
A great man indeed.

@Krrubach

I think that it would be fair to say that from May 1940 until June 1941, Churchill led all of human civilisation in opposing the Nazis.

Not all.
At the time Portugal had a fascist regime. We were "neutral".
I think we had a deal with Germany that they wouldn't invade us if they got that far.

Stories are told that Portugal sold Volfram (I think that's the translation) to Germany for them to make heavy weapons.
Then we would tell the allies what german ships and where would they go so that they could sink them.
The joke is that we were selling dirt.
So we were making money selling dirt, and the germans never knew that because the ships would be sunken.

And in case you don't know the British-Portuguese Alliance is the oldest in the world.

We shall not flag nor fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France and on the seas and oceans; we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air. We shall defend our island whatever the cost may be; we shall fight on beaches, landing grounds, in fields, in streets and on the hills. We shall never surrender

strong words !!

@Krubach

Even the smallest contribution in fighting the Nazis was important, whether through military means or otherwise.
