Theres nothing better, to get peoples attention, than having a great big billboard advert. Is there?
It would be great to see a HUGE towering Esato.com billboard up London, Leicester Square or something, to raise the profile of esato, and (in a way) change the way people look at mobile phones.
What do you guys think? One in every Capital City?

Nope. Esato has to be found out thru google or word of mouth. Only then they will respect and understand this community. If it is advertised, it will be just another dot com in the web. With lot of spammers and flamers. But that is just my opinion.

yer i agree i was told about two and a half years ago about it by a phone salesman when i got my t68 and i can onestly say it is unique and an amazing experience for se users.

whats the difference if someone in a phone shop told you or a billboard told you or google told you.

@batesie - sure but we'd get more spammers too, i think getting a long timer once a week or month is better than getting a long timer once a day but 100 spammers at the same time

My opinion to batesie's originial question would that yes i think billboard advertiseing for esato is a great idea and would raise the profile the status of esato a 100 fold.But in order for that to work esato does need to offer just more than a information and discussion board for mobiles,maybe an online shop for mobiles and accessories might help achieve that,But even so i don't think esato can ever afford to advertise on huge billboards in leicester square or anywhere else for that matter as the costs involved would be immense..but who knows in future;anything is possible!

I'm not sure but i think there's a script on Esato to catch web crawlers looking for e-mail addresses, if a spammer became a registered member though, he/she could easily access the e-mail of most members by viewing their profile

Hmm i think its a good idea, but i can also see the arguments against...even if it is a slightly elitist view. Reminds me a little of "The Beach" in some respects.

Advertising Esato on billboards is an excellent idea, but only if Esato has something to advertise. Esato is too specific and I would iamgine that it doesn't generate enough revenue to warrant such an advertising campaign. If there was an online shop to sell mobiles, as axxxr suggested, then it would make more sense to advertise.
I suppose the question is really; does Esato need to advertise at all?
The theory that advertising would increase the number of spammers on Esato is not one I put much stock in. We have had spammers in the past and we shall probably have them again, they will find and join Esato through a variety of means, not just advertising. If a spammer is looking for a large forum to join, all he would have to do is to get a list of the internet's largest forums.

I was just thinking that we should all contribute in some away to run some kind of Advertising campaign for esato....does'nt have to be giant billboards....could be a simple newspaper or magazine add.

Right, I've been checking out JC Decaux, the billboard peeps, and prices for a 2 week campaign, range from £100,000 for London only, up to £650,000 for a nationwide campaign. There are lots of variations based on location, size of advert etc, but those are the cheapest and most expensive. Hope laffens got a good accountant!

How about emitting Esato stickers around, in our cars, laptops, SE mobile fones (small stick ons at the batt cover) etc. Just what like SE man has an SE sticker on the hood of his Bimmer.

Why don't every single member that reads this simply use word of mouth...its the best advertiseing anyone can get,and its free.
If at least everyone one of us tells at least tells 5 people about esato that adds up to a quite a significant amount of people.

phones.
Car stickers is a good idea I think. I dont know how much they cost though.

HERE'S AN IDEA FOR YOU,
me and axxxr came up with this.
lets say we all plant a tree (if possible) on the bday of esato.
it would be the first time ever a forum does something like this globaly.
we are bount to get some intrest. Technology freaks and pioneers showing we respect nature.
i'm sure esato would be on CNN, BBC and many others.
most of us could be on national TV aswell.
so what you think?
