Which of these top cellphone manufacturers would you LEAST likely to buy?Samsung,Nokia,Motorola or Siemens. And why?

Posted by govigov
Samsung. They dont know what compatiblity is.

Posted by whizkidd
Samsung. Reason already stated.

Posted by ThreeX
Samsung, because i consider myself a power user, and that is incompatible with Samsung.
I bet they are nice phones to pick up from the box and just use until you retire them, but they´re not for me.
(Yes i HAVE owned one in case you wonder)

Nokia. Physically stronger.

Duh.. care to elaborate??

@threex - i think she meant 'brick'

As for my choice - Motorola

Posted by Cycovision
Not on the list, but Motorola. I ended up stuck with a V50 for a year (on contract and couldn't upgrade / quit the contract without it costing me a fortune) and hated everything about the phone. Bad voice clarity, useless features and an awful menu navigation system.

They might have improved somewhat by now put that particular phone put me off Motorola in a big way

Posted by OluYom
That would have to be Samsung. Their phones have the least functionality in that grouping.

Posted by RicK700i
@ Pradika, the question is which phone manufacturer would you least likely buy.You mentioned a good thing about Nokia's physique. For me I would say the Siemens ,not interestf in their phones because they quality , not far behind is the poor Samsung that is highly-overated on the market with their featureless phones.

Posted by OluYom
I have used both Siemens & Samsung, and will consider the former before looking at either Samsung or Nokia. Functionality & feature wise, I consider SE, Moto & Siemens in the same class.

Posted by RicK700i
Edit in previous post: For me I would say the Siemens ,not interested in their phones because they dont have quality!

Posted by Debu
I would be most unlikely to spend good money in purchasing a Neonode. I dont think samsung is bad, they are quite good on build quality, mostly their phone software is rather unevolved. I like te phones coming down the chute, the WM phone looks very interesting, and i wont be surprised i find myself purchasing one.

Posted by OluYom
Samsung's build quality is okay, but most of their phones seem targeted at non-business, non-power users. Meaning they exclude people like me from their prospects. Most other brands have something for this segment. Not Samsung.

motorola, for all the above reasons.

oh and siemens because that name is just WRONG!!

Posted by milmino
from the list, I'd be least likely to buy a motorola, but not because of personal disinterest, but because of lack of choice. But least like siemens, because they're not my style

Posted by Debu
Now that i think again, maybe i wont purchase seimens either, But companies are always pulling out rabbits from under their hats, you just never know. One cannot say that 'I just wont buy this brand', that would be pig-headed. An open mind should be kept.

Posted by milmino
@debu i agree all these companies can pleasantly suprise us, eg. samsung, who are pulling several "worlds firsts" in their technology.

Posted by bart
samsung
overpriced
nothing works like it should
not much features/technology
poor conectivitie

Posted by brix25
I almost bought a Samsung X600 last year, before that I never considered a Samsung. Least likely phone I would buy has to be Moto, the UI is not very intuitive.

Posted by OluYom
@debu: I am open-minded. Have used almost every brand on the planet. And from that standpoint + current lineup, I can tell that unless Samsung changes the direction in which they are going, I am not likely to spend my money on one. If I had no phone & someone gave me one, chances are I would sell it & buy a cheap Siemens, SE or Nokia :-)

Posted by 701
sagem and telit and some others small firms.as for the 1st 2 they r cheap and lack quality

Posted by govigov
I think samsung won this competition.

Posted by fatreg
have you lot never heard of VK?

now they are BAD!

fatreg

Posted by OluYom
@govigov: No doubt. But they still outsell most ofvthe other brands. Surely, our opinions here on esato are not the opinion of the world at large ;-)

Posted by whizkidd
Yeah. They're really good in competitions like these! :-D

Posted by govigov
World needs a phone for just talking and text. I think the 3310 does that nicely. Samsung is for ppl who need a glorified 3310.

Posted by k700nut
i avoid moto and samsung because of the illogical menu layout.@rick007..siemens phones are imo, better built than all brands.like anything german,it tends to be good clobber.

Posted by Jake Blues
@fatreg
who on earth are VK? are their phones available on orange?

Posted by OluYom
@k700nut: My sentiments about Siemens phones too. Good build. Great features. Good prices. @govi & whiz: Yeah, explains why both Nokia & Samsung have the rest of the world eating from the palm of their hand.

Posted by govigov
I never heard of vk. Btw, why isnt philips mentioned?

Posted by whizkidd
Yeah. Anyone tried philips?

Posted by OluYom
A friend had a phillips. My opinion: a toy. Of course, that was the only phillips I had ever seen, so my opinion may not be credible here.

Posted by whizkidd
Might be good. They make good TVs for sure!

Posted by OluYom
Speaking of phillips & good TVs, did you know that Sagem make good security & surveillance gadgets for the military? Might explain the good reception on their phones :-D

Posted by Jake Blues
do phillips still make phones?!
last time i saw a phillips phone must have been about 5 years ago.
i thought they died of embarrasement.

Posted by govigov
Nature, I dont know. Not sure. Yup, that explains a lot about sagem.

Posted by whizkidd
Yeah. They still do. Off looking stuff!

vk is available in india under the VK Munoth brandname.
btw, its the only cellphone manufactured in india as of yet.
(nokia and moto factories are coming up).

but true.. it's got no feature to show off!!

Posted by OluYom
@nature: you've got to be kidding. Phillips still very much in the phone business. And so are: amoisonic, bird, pantech, innostream, vte, benq, maxon, mitac, miracle, sendo, hyundai & arima.

Posted by govigov
Plasma, thank you. I forgot about such a brand. Btw, bpl too makes handsets in india.

Posted by whizkidd
So are LG, and kyocera

Posted by SCORPIONKING1982
I'd never touch a siemans phone in my life. Menu system is the biggest piece of shit I've ever used!

Only just above them is Samsung, their features are useless although the D500 is a tempting little phone and well featured but thats the only one I'd consider!

Posted by fatreg
yea the phillips 355 was tge kast phillips phone i saw!

no helping some people is there!?

fatreg

Motorola....just don`t like `em

Posted by gerardsalvador
Siemens only from what ive seen. Just dont like the look, build quality and user interface. Oh, and the name sounds rude lol.

Posted by neonw
Sony Ericcson.

Worst signal reception among the major brands.

Posted by Debu
@neonw: be careful, or you'll get flamed.

Anyways, philips does not manufacture cellphones, they buy the technology from other smalltime manufacturers and put their brandname on it.

Posted by neonw
@ debu. I know mate just being honest. SE phones have great features, but arent as good as other major brands when it come to reception.

Posted by mamba
yea right!! are known for poor reception

I decided to move on to another manufacturer after being loyal to SE for 3 years due to poor RF.

All the SE phones I've used have always developed Reception related problems.

1- the first was a t300 which started loosing signal from full to zero bar in full signal areas after 5 months. I thought this was a network problem but later realized the phone was responsible/faulty.

2-the second was a t610 which also had the same problem as t300.

3-the third and last was a p800 which started dropping only outgoing calls after being used for 6 months. I thought this was a network problem but later realized it was the phone after trying different phones with the same SIM.

I've since deserted SE due to RF problem and now use a Siemens S55 which I'm very pleased with.
