in Japan now and in a rush.
Does anyone know if the 902 can be unlocked to work with any sim?
If so, where?

lol i cant help it... only the big v sell it so it tends to be jus them who do nethin for it... lol. now if i worked in a store that would b different an i would b like 'ooh i can get it for u from my store and vodafones great etc etc...' but i dont coz i dont like them an dont like workin for them and want to leave but the money is superb and i get to sit on my arse playin wit fones all day

would you have been able to buy that phone in Japan?
I am trying to find out if shops will sell 'handsets' only because usually you have to be a Japanese resident and buy a contract.

i would have taken a contract and cancelled it.
There is no minimum term in Japan.
And the cancellation fee is 15 pounds.
So I was going to take the minimum contract and cancel it the next day.
Its fine. As long as you dont mention it to the store you get the phone from as they would appreciate that fact even thogh its possible.

Even if you got yourself a Japanese 902, you'd have an extremely hard time trying to unlock it. There's heaps of people wondering how to unlock these things.
When I'm in Japan I may look for unlocked Sharp 902 or SE 802 (that's if I havn't already bought a new phone in Australia before I go). Any issues with these phones in terms of bugs, hard to use buttons, laggy performance?

Lot of comments about the reprovisioning problems, bluetooth etc..
I also heard 802se's are having problems!
Many people are getting 902sh and flashing it in Hong Kong to SX813 firmware

hello, just to let you know, anyone who has setool or cruiser can unlocker these phone. i am not sure if he will do sharp but aboveconnection is a good person in London if anyone wants to go to his shop.

The Sharp 902 Japanese model is still causing problems for thos who bought it and it was released last December I think!!

ofiaich: Thanks for the info. There's lots of people with 902 problems (reprovisioning, mp3s); problems with SE appear to be less common. If I pick any of those two phones I'll go for the SE 802. Actually I tried the Z800i and it's a very nice phone.
Which phones can the Cruiser cable unlock, and does it unlock all festures? If anyone has tried it please post your results.

yup, it's shame that now vodafone restricted the mp3 setting as a ringtones!!
I don't know if the HK sharp 902 firmware will help (cos it shouldn't be branded with vodafone (no one in HK has heard about vodafone anyway ^o^)
Btw, I'm still waiting for people who get me to flash his sharp 902 in london! but i will post result here if i do have one later
