found a good deal on a t68mc. wanna ask you guys some qs

1. is the mc model still mmc unapgradable in manila? do you guys think that eventually smartnet would be able to upgrade these to mmc capability since a lot of pinoys have mc units? have you guys petitioned for this?

2. aside from the mmc capability, any other advantages from the latest software? right now i do not need mmc, so its ok if i do not getthat upgrade. however, i might be missing out on other things like a faster GUI, which is very important to me.

3. what is the latest software for the mc model, before the mmc software came about?

4. are there any imitation data cables out in ghills? if ever, can i use them to connect to the net via gprs-desktop via com1 port? i heard a forumer is selling cables for 300+

thanks a bunch.

to add...

what should i look for when buying a used t68?

forget the mc. it will never be supported here in the philippines. so no mms (not mmc!) firmware upgrades. the mc model is not supported in this country, so why petition.
-or-
you can go to singapore/send your phone to singapore and pay SGD100 for upgrades.

what you should look for? WARRANTY - this means savings and no headaches.

oh....mms i mean...got jumbled up with the mc thingy.

any third party doing uprgrades? if ever they are maybe they would be able to do the mc upgrade, knowing the fact that they are a significant number of mc units in the country.

the t68 is not like nokia (or siemens) where upgrades are available to almost anyone. the upgrades are stored on ericsson's server, and you need official equipment (discussed many many times here at esato) to get it and you need a special key that is only available to service points.

again, the T68mc is *not* supported in the philippines for firmware upgrade to MMS.

i see!

good thing i asked you guys first.

how much is the upgrade in hong kong? might go there in a month or so.

Why don't you write HK SE and ask? Late last month, I was lucky enough to have my T68mc upgraded in Singapore (Goldhill or Kallang SC) for 103sing$ when it was released. As far as I know, it has only been released in Singapore. A bit pricey huh, that's around 3K pesos. I eventually sold that upgraded unit (T68ie). Why? It will never have software support here. Ms. DJ of SE Phils. confirmed this to me before.

@arnoldc thanks! i believe in you; i have also t68mc & i just upgraded in semicon pasig, i pay 1650 but they didnt upgraded into t68i, i dont understand why i pay that too much, it only upgraded to R2D from R1C. ur ryt! mc here no gud!

Posted by 619
nirius... damn... u pay P1,650 for a lousy R2D sw? and i know they only charge P500 for SE ph. maybe u can post at semicon thread and inquire why they charge P1,650

vjmd.... u can take the risk if u want... hehe

vjmd... our master ying has cables for SE phones... modified... look for him at pinoy chit-chat.

@vjmd- arnold and 619 have spoken ü good luck with your mc! It's a dead end here in the philippines. Most probably those units were smuggled in and considered gray market phones which are not supported by local service points. Warranty is the key.

bonito, arnold, 619.... all correct! it is not supported, those are the side effects of gray area items. and like what it is there in the quote:
"Today you'll face thousands of choices. When you know exactly what you want to acheive, the decisions are simple."
but on the brighter side... there are more phones coming soon, im sure one of those models will make you happy soon .
