FGS. I'm moderating a thai SE webboard and seriously approx. 10 people sends me questions that is K700 have really stopped manufacturing. Rumors from one website went all over the place and no once could confirm from my source. One of my friends says yes it has and the other says no it hsan't. Its killing me right now.
I asked my source once again this question and 5 out of 10 people said yes and no. Only you guys here would know much more that those people because its a pretty much big issue because this model is still on the road in the market and I need confirmation of whether it has or not. Thnx!

I don't know much about this sort of stuff....
I'd be extremely surprised if they had stopped manufacturing it though!
They haven't even announced its predecessor yet and demand for the phone I would of thought would increase as it is offered free on many contracts!

As far as anybody outside SE can tell, the K700i is doing great in the marketplace. There is no substitute for it from SE. Therefore it would make no sense at all for them to stop manufacturing the K700. The only reasons for a stop at this moment in time, would be a lack of compontents or severe quality problems in production. If this were the case, manufacturing would resume at fulll capacity as soon as the problems were resolved.

impossible not yet

K700 is under production, and there's no problem with it. It won't phase out in the next 6 month.

I hope not . . . just improve on the firmware if ever
Posted by k700nut
I wouldn't have thought its been discontinued yet, though the phone is quite old now. It's better brother(s700)is around now...So it shouldn't be too long until the k700 ceases production.
Posted by sokoo
SE product live is 1 year average. (T68 was much more, T300 was less.. etc..)
Posted by govigov
610 is still available. I guess that has to stop b4 k700 stops production.

I don't understand why so many Esationians consider the S700 a 'sucessor' of the K700. It is a different kind of phone.
In todays market it is hard to distinguish straight model lines and I think that is how the manufacturers want it to be.
Therefore I don't think the production of one model will be stopped when the 'next' model is on cruise speed, because there is no such thing as a 'next' model.

I very much doubt that the k700i has been stopped.
Posted by whizkidd
No it hasn't. It would be stupid on SE's part if they were to do such a thing! The phone's growing in demand here in india.

It wouldn't surprise me if production of K700 had been stopped; I don't know to much about manufacturing & marketing procedures, but modern assembly lines should put out a few thousend handsets a day, so they might very well have the next half year in sales already in stock & reconfigure the production lines for another model, which should take a few weeks.
Contrary to that I was pretty much surprised when they stopped building T610 only a few months ago, I would have guessed SE stopped production like a year ago & sold off old stocks.
But I like the thought of a new marketing strategy like not anouncing new models & making people wait for half a year, but anouncing it to the public the same time as actually putting it on sale.
Maybe this rumor is an indication for that...

it could be that they are just lowering down the number of K700 phones produced. cause they have a big stock left from earlyer productions. they calculated in T610 selling numbers. but they didn't even get 1/3 of those salles.
Posted by marlonski
Surely if that were true then
have made a big mistake allowing this to leak as it would put a lot of people off buying a model that has come to the end of it's production life already ?
I would want to know what they were replacing it with and wait for the newer model to come out.
could end up having problems shifting k700 stock.
Even after
launch it's replacement it would then make sense for the k700 to continue to be manufactured at ramped down production levels until they feel they have exhausted the demand as they have done with the T610 which according to this thread manufacturing has only recently been stopped.
It just seems too early for
to have stopped K700 production.

k7 is such a nice phone. I dont think theyll discontinue it. Atleast not YET
Posted by The_Nashy
It could be like chinese whispers. The story gets changed. It could have started something like "Sony Ericsson don't make K700 anymore, only K700i"

could be, i've encountered several circumstances that a rumour evolved into an entirely different context........

Hi everybody,
this is my first post at this great site; just wanted to provide one piece of information that might be a clue in the response for the k700i manufacturing question. I am from Egypt, and have been following up on k700i for quite some time in order to purchase it. At the end of January (might have been the 28th), I made an inquiry about the phone to the so-called service center. Then just after 8 days, meaning something like 10 days ago, I contacted almost all the points of sales selling the k700i, and strangely enough, EVERY ONE of these shops (including the service center) told me that they have run out of the k700i...
a bit, well may be more than just a bit SUSPICIOUS, isn't it?
Posted by whizkidd
Welcome to Esato. :-D I think, it might be a temporary shortage of stocks. Have you contacted them again?
Posted by mahora
Thanks for the welcome note.... Come on stock ran out from all shops at the same time.... kinda weird isn't it... especially since SE is not that popular here in egypt (75 % of more than 7 million mobiles are nokias),, and also considering the fact that the phone is also still kinda expensive (US $ 400).... But any way I was told that any new stock would only arrive after at least one month... but I wouldn't count on that reply because all customer post sales centers in Egypt have a really bad attitude problem

Sure the K700i hasn't gone out of production all stores still have it here in the UK, still will be an important phone for SE this year, and there never was a K700 only the K700i, K700a and K700c

Glad u could confirm it's still in the UK, at least if they run out of it in Egypt, I can still get it from the UK
Posted by whizkidd
Wonder why the K700 is outta stock in Egypt? I'm sure SE won't stop producing the K700 until they have a replacement for that phone,
Posted by mahora
well as I said b4 SE is not that popular in Egypt, all the people, well about 75% of them just follow the herd and buy nokias, and considering the fact that K700i was introduced to Egypt only last November, I guess all the stock couldn't have runn out in just 3 months time, and from ALL shops at the same time.

Hi - I'm also new here. Have also been checking out the K700i before upgrading to it - hope to get it tomorrow or the day after. I live in South Africa, and the K7 is still on a roll here. I 've checked out a lot of options, and all the networks advertise it. A friend of mine got one on a new contract yesterday (my influence!), in fact.
Posted by whizkidd
Congrats to you and your friend both! If you have any initial problems with the K700? Do check out the K700 FAQ thread!

I live in the UK and yes....for the time being the production of K700's have been stopped as a small number of phones had errors with text messages. How do i know? Well i dropped minein a swimmingpool in South Africa when i went there just after newyears and when i got back i went to O2 and they told me the phone is unavailable for thenext few months. In fact i havent seen it in any stores of late. I called the insurance company today to hear thelatest on this and they said that until Sony fixes the problem they wont be selling any more K700's.
Im kinda pissed cozz they said i could replace my phone with the Nokia6230....but i dont want it. The K700 is so much cooler.
Hopefully things will besorted out soon cozzim still paying 25pounds a month for my contract...

I checked my phone and it says production date of January 2005 on the box. I got it from an authorised dealer, so doe'snt look like production has stopped at this point

sponsors it - still running as of presstime (during the recent past, it's Nokia mostly that's why) - an
S700i was made feature on the said segment. The latest tv ad from
that I saw was that of it's P910i model !

Does anyone know if this sms storage problem that caused SE to stop k700i is found in branded phones only or does it include unbranded phones as well?
