Why should we have to try and be 'cool? Who are other people to tell us whether we are 'cool' or not? I say sucks to that Fritzy! Post your 'uncool' practices and stand up and be counted as an individual! Huzzah!

I'm sorry guys but I don't need no smuck to tell me if I'm cool or not. I was born cool
1) I'm cool when Im sleeping and drooling all over the pillow
2) I'm cool when I push out my stomach and scream at my naked self in the mirror
3) I'm cool hanging around 10-20 forums each day
4) I'm cool wearing my 7 year old red wing work boots while everyone else wears expensive nike sports shoes
5) I'm cool even when Im walking down the street in some ugly looking slippers and wearing bermuda shorts.
6) I'm cool because I don't use no bloody nokias
7) I'm just cool doing everything. BE LIKE ME

@lor
I'm not sure about being 'cool', but you definitely fit into the 'uncool' group here.
Posted by gelfen
welcome lor! grace these uncool pages with pride.
we are discussing coolness as perceived by others, not whether you are cool within yourself. it's all about your frame of reference. none of those things are "cool" to an outside observer, and expounding how cool you think you are negates any and all residual cool you may naturally accumulate. however, that has nothing whatsoever to do with how happy you are in your own skin or pride in not conforming to accepted social "norms".
the fact that i am able to delineate the bounds of this thread in itself is uncool, although i may think otherwise.
other examples of my "uncoolness" (some repeated from the "Cool Wall" thread):
i prefer music that requires an actual living person to play an instrument and sing rather than a computer program and digital voice enhancement.
i like to read actual books.
i enjoy board games and card games.
i am an occasional role-player.
i am not afraid to admit i have an education.
i work as an engineer.
i like gadgets.
i think the pursuit of cool is a self-defeating exercise.
i prefer the company of friends and good conversation to nightclubs and loud music.

@gelfen
I also prefer the company of friends to sitting in a nightclub having my eardrums punctured.
I enjoy dinner parties.
I enjoy medieval palaeography as a hobby.
I have friends who e-mail one another in Latin.
I prefer sitting down to a meal and using cutlery as opposed to shoveling a greasy chunk of chemicals, with some meat added, sandwiched between two soggy buns, into my mouth.
I enjoy sipping an alcoholic beverage whilst having an interesting conversation with someone, rather than gripping the glass in my teeth and wolfing as much of it down in as short a time as possible.

Well, you're right there. No one has the right to deem another cool or uncool. So what if a person likes to read star wars novels or speak in klingon on weekends...
Pisses me off to see the so called popular crowd determining what's cool and what's non.
Ok, let's see
1)I like gadgets as well (WISH I COULD AFFORD THEM ALL)
2)I actually read books (TONS OF EM)
3)I read manuals not because I have to but because I like to
4)Im in front of a computer almost 14-18 hours a day and I'm not playing games or just chatting
5)I can assemble a computer from scratch without looking at any manuals
6)I also prefer quiet gatherings to bloody loud club music
7)I play a lot of games and I role play as well (ON WEEKENDS)
9)I've had computers since 1984 till present
10)I wear clean underwear everyday

@lor: i actually think number 5 is pretty cool
i collect miniature pewter fantasy sculptures, including Lord of The Rings goblets, shot glasses and chess set.
i read lord of the rings BEFORE the movies were made.
i think Friends and Seinfeld are grossly over-rated.

I think I can join this little club too, here's some reasons why I'm not cool (which I've pinched from my post in the 'cool' thread, but there's a lot more uncool stuff I do to come!)
-I've never owned a 'hoodie' top
-I think RnB music is crap, overproduced overhyped slickly marketed rubbish
-I sometimes listed to BBC Radio 4 (UK nationwide 'talky' channel, often has interesting documentaries, current affairs stuff, and the odd comedy on), and have even caught myself listening to Classic FM!
-I barely drink alcohol - I prefer to use my brain, not pickle it in alcohol, as far too many people seem to prefer doing
-I don't know what half of the current crop of 'yoof' words, nicknames, slang terms etc. are, and don't know the street slang names for most illegal drugs
-It took me months to find out that 'lol' stood for 'laugh out loud'
-I have never owned a pair a deliberately badly fitting jeans or trousers that hang in a ridiculous style round the crotch
-I don't skateboard (although I had one as a kid in the late '80s last time they were 'cool')
-I don't drink much..

Gosh!...I'm really rattling my brain here trying to figure what Uncool things i do?...
Posted by methylated_spirit
axxxr, maybe you should check out the cool thread then
Posted by slattery69
i feel i maybe more in the un cool section than the cool.
i like all music as long as the bands/singers aint from louis walsh or simon cowell.
i like documentrys on many subjects
i did skateboard but in the 90s when it was very uncool though i noticed that by the late 90s every fashion house in the world had stolen the clothes woren by skaters
i drive a vw and a deisal to boot
there will be loads of other uncool things i do but there are probably to many to list
but perhaps the ost uncool thing i do is be myself and i do the things and buy the things i like and you cant get much more uncool than that

Actually, i would say thats pretty cool. Cool isnt about being "down widdit" or being "street", cool is just...cool. Some got it, some dont.
Posted by Sammy_boy
So perhaps all us uncool cats are actually unwittingly being cool!
I'm with slattery - I also don't watch all this stupid reality TV that's on cos it's cheap and people watch it and talk about it constantly as their own lives are far too dull and centred around reality TV and TV makeover shows.
I also have never wanted to be an interior designer, sports therapist or do a media studies course at uni. In fact, I'm so uncool I haven't even been to university!
Posted by methylated_spirit
sammy, trust me, none of those things are cool. Trendy, but not cool. Trendy is uncool.
Posted by Caveman
Okay, here's my list:
1) I prefer to limit my television viewing to Formula One, history or documentary programmes, with the occasional comedy.
2) I drink Real Ale out of a tankard, instead of fizzy p*ss known as lager.
3) I do not understand RnB, Jungle, Drum n Bass, or whatever the latest thing is.
4) I do not own any Burberry, fake or genuine.
5) I have never owned a Nokia.
6) I have long hair.
Posted by friscosjoke
I listen to jungle. but here in america that is uncool

1.) I enjoy films, which have a plot and don't rely upon overpaid actors who in turn rely upon special effects to disguise their poor performances.
2.) I don't watch the Antiques Roadshow just to find out how much the antiques are worth.
3.) I enjoy poetry.
4.) I prefer ballroom or traditional dancing to throwing myself around the room like a trout that has just been pulled from the river.
5.) I don't switch a film off just because it's in black and white.
6.) I enjoy opera.

Don't confuse inability with the desire not to come into contact with sweating hordes of whammied 'dancers' intent on hurling themselves around the dancefloor like hyper-active fleas having a fit.
@SsTiTcH
Which tailor do you use? I like Hunstman myself.

i hate seinfeld.
Posted by scotsboyuk
I'm not a fan of most American sitcoms, they tend to be repetitive and patronising. Having said that I did enjoy both Cheers and Frasier.
Posted by Sammy_boy
And I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds Friends to be unfunny and really quite annoying!
@scotsboy and stitch (however it's spelt!) with regards to 'tailors' I use Primark or George
(For those who don't know, Primark and George are shops that sell clothes more in the 'budget' range!)
Posted by kimcheeboi
i hate friends too!
Posted by gelfen
i'm with scotty. most american sitcoms just aren't funny, although Frasier, Will & Grace, and occassionally Becker or Raymond are amusing. how does this relate? well i'm also uncool because:
i prefer classic british comedy - Yes (Prime) Minister, Blackadder, Mr. Bean, The Goodies, Red Dwarf, Carry On movies, etc. - to almost anything around now, and i own most of them on dvd.
i own and watch dvds of the original transformers cartoon series and movie.
i own and watch every season of buffy and angel currently available.
i own and watch babylon 5
i think a well writted animated show can be more entertaining than most live-action performances.
i got married in my twenties
i am male who finds car races boring.
Posted by Gigs
Have they released much of the goodies on DVD?
Like dangermouse its prooving really hard to find.
I am uncool for many reasons, but more so because I recognise that I am and that I am fine with it.
Posted by scotsboyuk
@Gigs
Dangermouse is top notch stuff!
@gelfen
I also enjoy most British comedies.
Posted by gelfen
Dangermouse rocks!
Posted by friscosjoke
I watched "are you being served" as a kid and found it very funny. my girlfreind has a bunch of "fawlty towers" on tape and those are pretty good also.
